Tim Corbin on BaseVols

If I were Vitello I would ask the ump to check Vanderbilt’s bats every single at-bat out of spite. Hopefully he can respect that…

I love the swag the BaseVols play with, and that's largely a reflection of CTV, but I do hope antics like flipping off the outfield stop; for me, that's a little too far.

That happened one time, it was blown out of proportion on social media from rival fans. These are great kids. I’m so proud of all of them. Listen to Kirby’s podcasts and get to know the players.

I completely understand why Corbin is saying there should be no drop-off this season in Tennessee. The core of our pitching staff is still intact. Pitching is huge in baseball.
When you have arguably the best starting pitching staff in college baseball, you can virtually plug and play almost anyone in the other 8 positions on the field.

As crazy as it sounds, Vitello said that this is probably the deepest bullpen he has had at Tennessee. When you add that to the starting rotation of Dollander, Burns, and Beam, you’re going to have a good day. If this team gets decent hitting production from Booker/Scott and Stark/Taylor, this team will replicate the ‘22 level of play (probably not in W/L column).

I know they're good kids, but they asked for every bit of the negative attention from other fan bases. I don't mind it, but I think some things went a little too far, but that's just my opinion... I'd certainly rather be a villain winner, than a hero loser.

One thing that I think people are overlooking is that, yes, we return phenomenal pitching, but we lost a lot of defensive support. You know, as well as I do, that a pitcher is only as good as the fielders around him, which makes me a little nervous about the unknowns.

Ahuna is an elite defender and Denton is no slouch. So, that side of the infield will not miss a beat. Moore and Burke have upside. It will be a growing pain early, but I think both will be solid defensively by the time SEC play rolls around.

And this pitching staff will also be supported by what could be a very potent offense.

I’m not worried about this team defensively, whatsoever. Denton was an All SEC Defensive Team member in 2021, Ahuna is regarded as one of the best defensive SS in America, and Moore & Burke haven’t had their fielding questioned publicly in the time they have been here. Lipcious probably saved us a few errors last season, but I suspect Burke will be fine, maybe a little worse. In their limited time last season, Burke, Moore, Scott, and Booker all had 0 errors. Merritt had 1 error last year, but so did Beck, Gilbert, and Stephenson. Merritt & Dickey won’t have the range that Gilbert & Stephenson had but it shouldn’t cost the team too many outs.

I personally don’t care what other fanbases think. They all hate Tennessee to begin with so F them and the horse they rode in on for all I care.

I personally have always like Corbin. He’s done it right, down on West End. But really enjoy our coach too. Even more Coach Vitello is an incredible coach, recruiter and motivator. I like the one we have more. This just makes the games more exciting.

I am looking for a catcher with a live arm and some improvement on holding those runners a little closer to the bag. A few more pickoffs than last year ... and to use the words of Eddie Kendrick the Vols will be singing, "I'm truckin', ain't nothin' holdin' me back."
