Tim Brewster (Minnesota)

Dear Mike,

Please don't hire Tim Brewster. This is only his second year as a head coach in college and it is not proven that he can recruit.
His record at Minnesota is 8-13 in a very easy conference.

He lost to a bad Northwestern team last weekend because of an end game interception. We have already had coaches (Fulmer and "Mustang Package" Chavis) that have allowed us to choke in numerous games in the 4th quarter over the past 16 years.

Get a proven big name coach! Not a Brewster!

You are just pathetically wrong...I'm not saying he is the man, but your assessment reeks of ignorance

I dont think he would be all that bad. He has a great rep as recrutining coordinator with Mack Brown.

I don't want Brewster either but he was at North Carolina and Texas with Mack Brown before going to Minnesota. He got Vince Young to Texas, or so I heard.

I heard a funny statement on this. He got Vince to commit to TX from the Houston area. They made it sarcastically implying that Vince was sold on TX before Mac and Brewster coached there.

Just because he supposedly got Vince Young to go to Texas his a great recruiter? Vince Young is from Texas and was already a fan of Longhorn Football.

He may not be the best option, but I guarantee you he would be a thousand times better than fatty.

The total disrespect for Fulmer's character by people with 10,000 times less class than him will always be of mystery to me.

Let me guess, Obama is a Muslim terrorist and you love Sarah Palin.

Tim Brewster is well known for being an outstanding recruiter. If there is one reason Hamilton would go after him it would be cause he can recruit. Ed Orgeron too is a good recruiter it doesn't mean I want him as a head coach.

I very unhappy with Brewster being hired.

Saying that "he'd be 1000 times better than fatty" is just stupid. Brewster hasn't proved he can accomplish anything at the level of the SEC. Fulmer won our division 5 times in the past 10 years and tied for it once. That's better than either Florida or Georgia has managed. I'm not saying it wasn't time for him to exit but show the man a little respect for his years of service and accomplishments.

At least become informed before you make a thread like this. I am not going to argue for or against him. But, he is an amazing recruiter, a proven recruiter.

God no. He's in one of the weaker conferences in the country, and he's only in his second year. We need to find someone who has had a decent period of sustained success.

Personally, I like Chris Peterson, but if the scientology thing is true, there's no way they'd bring him to the bible belt.

I just moved to knoxville from Minnesota this last summer. I can say that Brewster will be a very good coach and very solid recruiter. He did a great deal to restore football at Minnesota. He was also able to start bring in better guys which has failed Minnesota before.

HOWEVER I do agree with you guy he is not a fit at UT. Atleast not now. He is still very raw and unproven. UT needs a much bigger name in here.

It's Kiffin.

And the Big 11 is not one of the worst conferences in the country. Get off of your SEC ignorance and just look. It's probably the third best.

Agree the comment was classless but your's is not much better.

Brewster was also credited with a lot of Antonio Gates' success. He is not a bad candidate. A simple search on Wikipedia would do a lot of folks good.

I would say Kiffin and Brewster are similar 2nd tier candidates.

The thought of hiring Brewster if a joke right? You do not replace a national championship winner at top 10 all time winningest program with a guy from freakin Minnesota with a 8-13 career head coaching record. The guy that brought up Orgeron hit the nail on the head. Great so he can recruit. So hire him as recruiting coordinator...not head coach at UT. I don't care if he coached under the man above himself the guy is simply not qualified in any way, shape, or form to be our head coach.

So you want a coach with 'decent period of success' and in conference that is not weak. And that criteria leads you to Chris Peterson? How long has he been the coach and how many of those players are left over from their previous coach? And his conference is not weak?

I heard somebody said that we should not be too harsh on his coaching record because they don't even have black players there. :)
