Tim Banks

This gonna be a long year of the defense getting gashed every week and people tripping over themselves to tell everyone how great Banks is in spite of it
User name checks out. Look you can say you aren't a ball knower and we will forgive you. It's hard to not let the opposing team score points when the average TD drive is 34.5 yards with all but one drive being less than 30 yards. He gave them runs but at the end of the day they got 1TD and 2 FGs from all that running. The game was full of crazy turnovers that both teams capitalized on.

They ran for over 200 yards when you take out sack yardage. And that was with all those short fields you mentioned. But thank you for proving my point.

Yeah and threw for 180. They put up a bunch of rushing yards and didnt have a lot of points to show for it when it wasn't a short field. Thanks for proving my point.

Banks is far from great. I’ve seen too many 3rd and 8+’s being converted against his defense. He is solid. Solid doesn’t cut it at Tennessee. At Oregon, Clemson, South Carolina, Colorado, solid cuts it, not here.
Is it Banks or the talent he has to work with? Although one could argue that those are the players this coaching staff evaluated, recruited, signed and developed so either way, they're responsible. Hard to imagine in year 5 that Telander is one of our starting linebackers.

Yeah it’s year 5, no excuse to have a talent problem anymore. It’s natty time.

One bright spot for this defense was the ability to bring pressure with just 4. Didn't see any blitz packages, 5 sacks from the front 4.

Most of the criticism is fair and part of the business when you work at a place like Tennessee, but let’s not lose sight of the big picture.

This is the first year where his defense hasn’t improved from the previous year. Also, 3 of MSU’s 4 TD drives were 30 yards or less. Did I get frustrated with our defense yesterday? Yes. But I still think he’s really, really good.

It’s almost like some of y’all personally know him. His defenses have consistently underperformed in virtually every game against solid opponents. The only group that has consistently performed well as a whole has been the dline and it’s obvious why that is and has nothing to do with Banks. He isn’t a great recruiter and doesn’t run a particularly complex scheme so the love affair with him is comical.

Points allowed -

Syracuse - 26
Georgia - 44 (Bama held them to 21. Austin Peay 28)
UAB - 24 ( inb4 it was backups)
MSU - 34

I'm ok with Banks. He's a decent DC. Great? Nope

He definitely deserves some criticism, some of it is not silly
Seeing you have a Steelers logo…Arthur smith needs to go.

The announcers supporting is your evidence of his abilities? Sure thing but don’t worry the opposing coaches support him too. No doubt his third down zone packages where the secondary looks lost and the line can’t get to the quarterback are nearly impossible to coach against lol

They have looked bad at times, but they looked better today offensively. I'll take 3-1. Easier part of the Schedule now. November/December is very difficult. Ravens twice, Bills, Lions. Hopefully, we get the Rodgers we saw today

I didn’t understand running it on 4th and goal. Put the ball in Rodger’s hands and let him ice it

Tennessee Volunteers sacked Mississippi State quarterback Blake Shapen five times. Vols pass rush also generated 11 tackles for loss, with Tyre West contributing a crucial strip-sack of Shapen in the fourth quarter, leading to a touchdown that gave Tennessee the lead. But yes Tim Banks sucks and fire him.

I remember these exact same comments about Chavis. Everyone wanted him fired. That worked out awesome when he left

Tim Banks has absolutely nothing to do with the pass rush. He doesn’t coach them and he didn’t recruit them so I am not sure what point you are attempting to make unless you believe the DC tells them when to sack someone lol
