Tim Banks is gone

Anytime someone is making over $1 million per year, you have to know that if you don't perform according to whatever criteria your bosses deem relevant, you are likely gone. Comes with the territory. Just business.

Unless you’re a player. You come in making 2 million, have a mediocre season and hold your hands out.

Georgia shut down Alabama with 4-5 * in every position 2 deep in most cases.

Indiana with Bryant Haines as DC shut down Ohio State at thier house with 3 *, or no stars.

BH would get my vote. Pay what it takes.
They send 5 knowing someone will get there, man up under because they know the ball has to come out, with 2 safeties giving help where it’s needed (again, knowing the ball is coming out) while reading the qb and routes.
They never run 15 yards backwards at the snap to sit in zone or have 7 defenders all staring at the qb allowing WRs to just sit for an easy throw.
Crazy to think what we did to ga but they didn’t have safety help on us. Think the main change for them has been 1 or 2 safeties to help instead of no help for their cbs

I've called for this for a long time. I worried he wasn't the guy during the search when it was revealed that he was a "co" DC at PSU but not the primary playcaller.

Still I can't help but feel bad for the guy. If he had an opportunity to be a small school HC, he should have taken it.
I actually know some Penn St alum that played there and when we hired him i asked about him and they basically said, "proceed with caution"

Banks was not the problem. It starts at the head coach. Banks was good last year. But when you do not bring in the players or develop them your going to have a fall off. Banks did not miss a field goal against Georgia that would of won the game. Bama, Georgia, Ohio St does not have years where they are not good on O-line or D-line. CJH needs to step it up in these areas.
And Max Gilbert did not give up 44 against Georgia. We can argue all day about this, but IMO, there are too many moving parts to know how the defense would have been this year without Banks, under an unknown DC. I'm just looking forward and hoping for improvement, including DBs that don't wait past the first down marker until they cover receivers.

Cjh is a pretty stubborn guy. He should have did this about 2 years ago. But, it's done. I can't help but feel like we're going to have a serious improvement going in the next season on defense. I mean let's just look at the statistics. We can't get much worse on defense.

This is the first outward signal that this year was worse than I believed it was. I expected some changes at the coordinator level but sending Banks off signals two things: 1. CJH is feeling heat from the AD + Money 2. The defense was not fixable as is and the plan Banks likely discussed with CJH wasn't going to get it done.

Wish him the best.....

Changes happen at coordinator level
Claim it must be worse than you thought

Sound logic

You guys need to quit listening to those internal demons or uninformed idiots on these boards and call in shows.

Never seen DW and JH not in lockstep. I think they can finish each others sentences. Bet hypotheticals have been shared all season.
DW pushed Heupel to hire Banks.

Might have to do with the “vaunted” offenses we played. Which elite team did he shut down last year? He got boat-raced by the 2 offenses with a pulse.
Arkansas was #10 in the country and #2 in the SEC in YPG last season. They were #44 in the country and #6 in the SEC in scoring and averaged 30.9 PPG. We held them to 19 and the last 7 was intentionally allowed to give our offense a chance by getting the ball back rather than letting them run the clock down and kick an game winning FG.
Alabama was #42 in the country and #6 in the SEC in YPG. They were #22 in the country and #3 in the SEC in PPG with 33.8 PPG. We held them to 17 points.

Heup doing what needs to be done. Hate it for Banks but he's just not cut out for the SEC.

That Vandy loss really lit a fire under Heups rear end. He closed strong on an amazing recruiting class and he's pulling the weeds among his staff. He wants a championship as much as us

Let's freaking go
I thought the reasons he was fired are, they never learned how to tackle, they didn’t.t learn how to play zone defense, they concentrated on stripping the ball carrier instead of making a tackle, they took wrong angles while trying to make plays they often gave away the slot when rushing the passer, etc. I was really impressed with Indiana’s defense against OSU. they made at least 90% of their solo tackle attempts and were able to play tight man defense. With their defense, were would have, may be, lost one game this year. This should be the move which will allow us to be a contender for a very good season on 2026.
