Tim Banks is a CHOKE ARTIST.

I've been a Tim Banks supporter his whole time here and im still giving him a little bit of a pass this year realizing he has to play guys at corner and safety who this time last year were playing in high school in front of crowds that could barely fill one section in Neyland.

Where I am blaming in today's game is two spots.
One is the 2 point conversion...it's like our defense had never practiced or lined up to defend a conversion.
The second is the OT...Georgia telegraphed sweep run and you set your play up to follow the misdirection.

I have been a supporter too. However, the 3rd down GA TD where the defense was playing man to man but off the wrs by 10 yards...They just gave it to the best WR in space in the country and only had to make one man miss for a TD. That was the dumbest defensive play call I have ever seen.

Amazing game by the offense. Joey and the WRs balled out. The run game was solid. 38 points should be enough points to win by 3-4 scores against a pretty mediocre offense. Tim Banks flexes against lesser opponents but in big games he has no idea what he is doing. I don’t know the solution because his body of works says he’s a solid DC. But holy **** I’m sick of his defense looking abysmal against UGA. Mike Bobo isn’t exactly an offensive genius and yet Banks gets schooled every time. It’s beyond stupid. Something has to change. That should have been a beatdown in favor of the Vols. Period.
Second year in a row making a marginal QB look all world

Been awhile since I've been on here. After that game I was curious what was being said about it. My 2 cents. I think officiating was a bit one sided on some calls. Seen alot of holding bybGA that got overlooked. Also see a defense that is slow. Even Kevin Simon after the game said this. Our LB's are nowhere on most plays, they are chasing and to slow to catch anybody. Realize Carter may have had several tackles but most were from behind while trying to chase down the field. Someone else slowed them down enough for him or Tealander to catch them. Just seems like we have been ran on some by everybody this year and that goes to lack of real size at DT and not great LB play. Need some big guys like John Henderson.

The defense was mince meat yesterday and is always against good teams. Banks can’t stop nobody. Allows big chunk plays every game against good competition so tired of it. You got the money and NIL go out and get a damn legitimate coordinator

Martinez definitely needs to go and possibly take Banks with him. Heupel also needs his head examined for not moving the ball to the middle of the field and attempting the FG on 3rd down with 7 seconds and TOs left. MOVE THE FREAKING BALL TO THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD ON 3RD DOWN! Would it have made a difference? I believe it would have! He had to push it instead of kicking it straight down the middle!!!
You can’t commit a false start there. Huepel didn’t want to take another bone head penalty

Those clown refs were killing us with PI. Besides the push off that TD catch was hard to defend. If would have farted they would call PI.

Agree good teams carve us up.

How many of Tennessee's starting defensive players didn't play yesterday due to injury? Our top two DB's were out with two freshmen playing those positions.

What would you have done differently from a play calling/schematic standpoint?

You are a moron! Get off the board if you think Martinez is a great coach. The secondary has been our weak link since he has been here!!!
No it hasn’t. The CBs were a team strength last year. If you don’t know that, you don’t have any business calling anyone a moron (of course, people who call others morons for disagreeing are ironic anyway).

And since you mention “secondary” instead of Corners, I’m guessing you think he also coaches safeties. While calling others morons.

Martinez is a fantastic CB coach. He is coaching without his two starting outside CBs right now. That matters.

Don’t leave your freshman db on an island play1 and send a safety blitz requiring him to cover 18 yards to get to Gunner.
And don’t leave your struggling nb alone on 4th and 2 when the lb can be there for the slant but we send him in man to the rb in the right flat and blitz an lb 8 yards from the qb. You know he’s passing and it’s going to be quick.

Bro the offense couldn't get a TD when the long snapper gave us excellent field position and couldn't convert on a critical fumble. That wasn't amazing. Team game here and everyone made some mistakes. That's the breaks sometimes

And don’t do this on 3rd and 4 during an 8 minute drive with your safety 20 yards off the ball when Ga was running the ball down our throats.

If Banks is coaching the safeties, then he needs to go! Also, whoever left Ty Redmond in the game to get scorched the whole time needs to go! Our D has been good because they can stop the run (didn't do it well yesterday) and limit the passing game ocassionally vs average QBs. The only top 10 QB UT faced last year was Beck that had several average games and lit up UT's secondary! Yes, you are a moron!

The 4th and 7 conversion, we played man and sent pressure. They made a great throw and catch. I’m not sure safety help would have prevented that, but maybe.

Last year, the complaint was that he sat back in coverage and didn’t send pressure. Now he does it and fans complain. He sent a lot of pressure yesterday. He also adjusted to stopping Georgia’s run game.

At some point, players have to make plays. The real problem was less about the play calls and more about having a freshman CB they could pick on instead of our 2 future NFL CBs.

I agree on the long safety blitzes. I see teams do those and wonder why. I saw an NFL team do it last week and the safety had to run 20 yards to get to the LOS. You’re just taking him out of the play. Not sure why DCs love those, but they do, seemingly at all levels of football.

It’s the measured and thoughtful tone, paired with your well-reasoned analysis that makes us all respect you so much. Hats off, old chap.

You should admit that Georgia has great players and everything is magnified when a team that talented runs over a undermaned DL which we were yesterday.I thought we played well enough to win minus about 6-7 starting caliber players on defense
