I was wondering how Bam fans were reacting so I ventured into enemy territory at Tidesfan.com. To say the least I was surprised on the overall positive feedback on dooley. Based on their reaction to the presser they said he's a Saban clone in mannerisms. From their take a vastly improvement over Lame and they seem to feel he'll fit in the SEC.

One note if there's a question about his lack of intensity go down to the thread...

He had his helmet on and he is gigantic. The Bear never slapped a player in the headgear?

What an overly sensitive world we live in. Watched the clip and saw nothing unordinary from a coach trying to coach up his player. I remember coaches gettting so intense that they grabbed facemasks while chewing out players? Is that going to be frowned upon to? Football used to be about making young men mentally tough and a good slap over the helmet and rear chewing came with the territory.

I read the Bammer thread and have a new respect for them as they were actually making intelligent remarks.

Seeing BIG John Henderson's pre-game ritual was great! Man, he is a beast!

I'm a Gator fan and think it's a great hire.

Dooley is going to fix what NAME REDACTED pissed all over when he was here. He will respect and continue the traditions of UT football. He won't try to make UT the "USC of the south".

I think Dooley is going to struggle next year but 2011 I think we'll see him start to make progress towards winning the SEC again.

I think you upgraded in coaching. TN is in a tough situation right now and maybe Dooley can salvage next year. Still see 6-6 or 7-5, but the respectability of the program is already better, and he's a lot harder to hate than Kiffy was.

Wow, Gators now coming out with nice words. What is the world coming to? LOL

Seriously, thanks and I hope we will be back sooner than later and our rivalry is once renewed with competition.

I think it's closer than what most people think. Dooley can recruit. His teams competed with some big time schools while at Tech with inferior talent. He held LSU at Bay last year. Can you imagine him with UT talent going against LSU last year?

They are impressed by the fact UT hired a coach who went 4-8 at La Tech? Don't kid yourself, they are licking their chops.

I'm more worried about an understudy of Saban at UT than I am of Cutliffe. Muschamp would have been worrisome as well but he has zero experience as a HC.

I hope you realize that the most important thing Dooley does is surround himself with good coordinators and assistants. He's going that.

Look at what Kiffin did... Kiffin is a moron but he had some good coordinators and assistants.

All my friends pretty much root for different teams and the only fans who are ridiculing the new hire seems to be my Gamecock friends...Clemson, gators, and dawgs (ga) fans all think this is a good/classy hire, but it seems that the cocks are being the only dicks. ironic, right?

It appears to me in that video that Dooley is just getting that young mans attention...My god anyone who has played the game knows that coaches slap the living daylights out of players sometimes during practice...With of course helmets on...Dooley is firey thats for sure

I agree. My high school coach ripped off one of my teammates face mask during practice b/c he wanted to quit the team. The guy ended up staying on and becoming a contributor. This was 13 yrs ago but I've seen the change over the years to a more sensitive approach. These kids need tough love!

I want to play for a coach with intensity and a coach that challenges me and gets me fired up. I see nothing wrong with either video. I was skeptical about the hire at first. However, since doing some reseach, CDD has a great pedigree. If he brings that kind of fire to the sideline and surrounds himself with the right kind of coaches, he will be successful at UT.

Just remember guys it hasn't been that long ago that Alabama went through pretty much the same thing with Franchionne. I just hope it doesn't take UT as long to get back to being SEC champs.

Listening to 104.5 yesterday afternoon, they interviewed the espn cover man for LA Tech, and pretty much said that team was riddled with injury after injury the whole season, even having to pull safeties to play WR and such, and still had chances to win the games that they didn't win.

Never thought I'd be excited about a Coach Dooley at UT, but after his press conf...I am.(surprisingly)

Good luck Coach!!

hey they have beaten us what the last 3 years, they like the hire and will say nice things, because they are thinking they will own us as long as DOOLEY is here, this is from an old wise one, GO VOLS, but we have lots of work to do

As an Alabama fan, I can honestly say that I'm a lot more concerned about a Vol team led by DD than LK. With this guys determination and intensity, he will be able to motivate 2 and 3 stars that bleed orange and coach them up til the 4 and 5 stars start rolling in. I've always said I'd take 3 stars that bleed crimson over 4/5s that just see Bama as a stepping stone to the NFL.

So...let me get this straight...Regardless of the circumstances and where you come down in the respective argument, Leach catches hell and is fired for disciplining a punk WR who is trying to use his concussion as an excuse not to work in any practice drills, and has him stand in a utility closet (supervised...so his soft little hiney doesn't get overheated or anything), and Leavitt can do the very same thing (Dooley did) and get fired for cause (no buyout), yet Dooley can do it and we welcome him with open arms and a $2.4million contract? How bass-ackwards can it get?
