Tidbit from just a vol

He won't be here in 2018.

Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and again. If he somehow wins 9+ games in the regular season, they won't fire him.

Objectively, I don't think he will, but I sure hope he does. Football is a funny game. You never know.

Friend, these guys can't be rationalized with. They don't want to hear he got spanked by Dooley, they don't want to hear how he took at 12-1 Cincinnati team to 4-8, they don't want to hear how we were 2 miracles away from being 6-6 this year, they don't want to hear how his "all star" recruiting class has not been developed, they don't want to hear how the college football world is laughing at his shenanigans, and they don't want to hear about how he has a worse record against Vanderbilt than Derek Dooley did. For some reason, they have gone all in with a band geek.

I for one will say I don't want to hear it. I witnessed it all and to mull over it again and again, yeah I'll pass.

The thing is unless you are part of the program or the team or someone that has influence over the decisions, then you are a fan like the rest of us. You can either continue to gripe and moan about how much you hate what is going on with the Vols or you can show up and get loud for the team.

Sounds like Butch is gonna be here for next season, put away your differences and support the coach of the team you love. Maybe if we all came together with a common bond(cheer for the Vols to get better) we could impact the way the players respond along with the current coaches and future coaches.

It would be nice if it could be said about the fans of the Vols "They rally behind their own , at least as long as they are part of the program, don't ever leave or they will drag you thru the mud."

One thing is to throw past coaches under the bus, but it's another to throw current players and coaches under the bus.

Get it together Butch!

Go Vols!

That is where y'all get things twisted.

We want Butch to succeed but these past 4 years(which is the marker pretty much most people use to evaluate where the program will be headed) have been mediocre. I think I speak for all of us so called "negavols" when I say that if Butch makes the proper changes and we start winning games were supposed to and become competitive we will eat a big fat crow pie and SUPPORT BUTCH. AGAIN, for the umpteenth time, we fully support those kids who go out on the field every Saturday.

Maybe stop mixing and matching to suit what fits your point.

You say we're better than Florida because we beat them head to head, even though they ended up with a better record.

But we're better than SC and Vandy even though they beat us head to head, because we ended up with a better record.

The post was about records and total wins. Others trying to take that in a different direction is predictable but out of my control. I'm not mixing anything

Butch Sucks. He's full of it. When he's finally gone and you come back like many saying:

"whew, I tell you what, I have to admit, I was behind coach Jones, but now I see I was blinded by my own passions. On to the next one I guess, go vols!"

We won't rub it in your face, or ask you to turn in your fan card b/c you were wrong, we will be the opposite of you and say "its cool, we all love the vols, time to hop on board with a real coach now and make the Vols great again."

What's your opinion on Helfrich?

don't know much about him.. be surprised if he comes actually. Likely to get a full time OC job rather than a share..

I'm not much of a technician. More of listening to others

You think if he were to come Butch would give up control of the offense?

have to see that to believe it. Butch is always going to dictate game plans and schemes for games. doesn't play call but just don't see him stepping back from those tasks

All I'm saying, unless you are part of the process, you are a fan like the rest of us. Drag who you pick and choose from the team thru the mud, nobody wants to take your 1st amendment rights from you, just what's the point to buy into the negative, when you can just as easily support the team including the coaches while they are still here.

Go Vols!

Yeah if by some miracle Helfrich does come here and coaches JG, I think he could be Mariota 2.0 or at least a very good imitation

Well... I don't know about that. With Mariota Oregon was electric and at the top of the football world.. They also had a pretty good supporting cast. Post Mariota not so much. He wasn't able to lure a top QB recruit and had to go the graduate transfer route and didn't do such a great job of either A. evaluating those transfers, or B. being able to develop them.. So I am not sure how much was his coaching, the fact that Mariota learned from Kelly first, or Mariota was just that naturally talented.

Do you recall the Vols playing the Hoosiers in the Peach Bowl (1988?)?

Yep. I was there. Old Fulton county. Only stadium that didn't have a good seat in the house. Spent the game yelling "whooooose ya momma". Their rb was tony Thompson

which is exactly what Butch Jones wants...to control the narrative, zero negative feedback, blind support, and anyone who says otherwise belongs in the back pocket.

Man, wonder who else thought like that??

OP, this sounds like straight up propaganda to calm the masses. Butch is a joke and so long as he's here, Tennessee will be as well.

This is what is funny to me.....

Because I don't agree with you about coaching, you're a better fan?

That is what is great about America, we can have opinions.

Went through this same crap when Dooley was on his way out, y'all bashed us because we seen the writing on the wall then just like we do now. Butch Jones is paid 4 MILLION dollars a year here to WIN, not lose to Vandy and SC and barely escape teams like App State. This is year 4, and we have made no real strides.

Here's the difference.

1. True Negavols have never liked Butch since day one. So in their eyes if he would have won the NC this year they would have negative things to say.

2. Then you have people that were on the fence but at 8-4 time to fire him.

3. Then you have people that still support him and want to give him a chance to get Shoops own assistants in and realize 18 injuries on defense at one time is hard to overcome.

And last

4. These people dont want Butch to ever leave or get fired.

I would consider myself as #3. I have said it before, I have no idea when the man sleeps and I think he is one of the hardest working coaches in FBS football.
Alot of things went wrong this season out of his control and some that he probably could control. I would say the variables that went wrong this year was 70% bad luck or bad decision by players and 30% coaching.

I want to see Shoop with his assistants.

I want to see a QB coach here.

I want to see a huge push and get our recruiting back up in the top 10.

I want to see how the offense evolves with JG at QB and a co OC if that route is taken.

Blinded, you seen to be blinded by your hate for the HC of the Vols.

As for me I will always cheer for the HC of the Vols to do great things with the team and program. We all want the same thing, lots and lots of NC.

I may be eating crow for being loyal to the HC, but I hope you will be the one eating it after we win it all in 2017.

So in just saying let's hop on board with the current HC and make the Vols great again.

There will be plenty of time to bash him with full endorsement when he is no longer our coach. Bash Dooley, Kiffen, Fulmer, Majors and all the other past coaches, just try laying off the current ones, it won't be the end of the world to be loyal to the team and them. We won't bash you for being a positive influence.

But being negative about something you have no control over, just looks bad on you and the entire fan base. It looks like you don't understand that what you say or do doesn't matter, so why be so negative.

We may want to hire another coach and that guy may look at this message board and call us a bunch of hicks that have a low football IQ and pass on the job.

Get it together Butch!

Go Vols!

That's a pretty good categorial summary, and I'm definitely in cat. #1 of hating Butch from day 1.
