When I started to UT in the fall of 66,we could get into a game with a ticket using our student id to obtain. With all the vast amounts of money flowing around all college athletics, why cannot this be reinstated for students everywhere? The prices added on to those who want season tickets and private boxes.Greed has its end also.

This is an idea I could get behind 1000 percent !!!
If we could draw a crazy, packed student section every home game, the Neyland home atmosphere would be bonkers again (like others, I agree that the noise level and crowd participation at home games slipped in the last year or two).

I would gladly add 4 or 5 bucks to a ticket, or tack on 50 cents or a dollar to a beer, hot dog, burger for this to happen.
I mean, how big is the student section - say 5K for easy math purposes.
5K at 100 a ticket - you have to come up with 3 million a year to cover that cost.

Hell you could talk to some sponsor like Food City, Pilot, Weigel's, Dish, etc. or a couple smaller sponsors and let the new patch on uniform advertisement revenue cover this cost easily.

It’s around 11,500 seats, but cost was $25 a ticket this past year. This is in addition to the program and services fee the University already charges included in tuition.

Even better...that math comes out to about 1.7 - 2 mill a season.

I say give them kids their 25 bucks back and let do this right.

When I registered in the Fall od 1956, they asked me if I wanted season tickets ti football and basketball games I said yeas ti they gave them me. I was my responsibility to not lose them. I think in 1957, I went to the ticket office the week before the Ga Tech game, both teams were ranked in the top 5 teams, and bought 8 tickets for about 7-8 $ per ticket. I sold those tickets for $30 each and made my spending money for the quarter. Three quarters cost around $1000.00 including meals and dorm room. I would hitchhike home when I want to go there for the weekend. I had saved money for my education and actually had money left over when I graduated.I am not sure I could afford to go to college today.

Hummmm.....so you invested in your own education......I like the sound of that rather than asking the tax payers for a loan you hope will one day be forgiven. Hummm....I like the sound of that.

Grammar matters. I'd return the degree.

If you want students really interested in attending and being active at games, it's better to charge. If tickets are free, you will attract more types to the games as a social event and looking for instagram moments.

Plus the price of a season's worth of football games is about 1% of the typical annual cost to attend UT. It"s not sizable expense comparatively.

“I’ll raise ticket price all right, but it won’t be to give 5,000 seats to a bunch of snotty-nosed brats for free. I need those seats for all my corporate donors and their families.” - Danny White, probably
