Thursdays game vs App. St.

The SEC signed a rich television contract. Part of that is agreeing to move games to days/time slots which suit broadcast "optimization." So, the Vols play Thursday night. I get SECN. The Vols will be on the big screen. I've got bevies and gameday food. I'm a happy alum.

Moving the game to Thursday I can understand. Why our game got stuck on the SEC network and not put on ESPN or ESPN2 is beyond me. We are a top 10 team playing on a very odd night. You'd think we could ha e received a better spot on TV.

We may not have been officially top 10, when the two channels were assigned.

I am sorry, I must have missed something. I thought we moved our game to Thursday to get attention to the program. I just noticed SCjr. and Vandy are playing Thursday also in Nashville. That is a conference game and they are on ESPN and we are on SEC network. That is two big recruiting areas for us. That just not seem worth it. plus I live in NC and NC state is playing also on espn3

Ratings my man. If they put UT game on ESPN no one would be watching SECN. However ESPN has a built in audience. Thus both networks get good numbers.
It's all about the coin.

Thursday evening, 9/1/2016
ESPN2 will be carrying Primetime at the US Open (Wut?)
ESPNU will be showing Indiana vs FIU
ESPN will be showing the SEC matchup, SoCar vs Vandy (2015 SEC tailpipe suckers)
ESPNews will be carrying Sports Center
SECN will be showing recent Sunbelt addition and former FCS powerhouse, Appalachian State (11-2, 7-1 in 2015) at Tennessee.
BTN will feature OrSU Mighty Beavs at Minnesota
LHN will be showing Texas volleyball

Now, why would ESPeNis slate an SEC matchup between two teams coming off horrid years (USCe 3-9, 1-7 & Vandy 4-8, 2-6) on their premier namesake channel, while relegating Sunbelt powerhouse & bowl victor at the Orange & White Chosen Ones to the regional channel? They are yankees from Bristol, CT, and none of them attended SEC schools?

Id like to say yes but I believe they wont. Tennessee is traditionally a slow starter and App has Taylor Lamb at QB and Marcus Cox at RB. I read he is the first player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons. The front 5 isn't that bad either. Are they TN caliber; no but they are decent. At this point its all speculation how good we are. Im looking forward to seeing them on the field and then we will have a better idea.

UT will be stacking the box all night trying to make App State beat us through the air.

i don't think this is a big deal. in today's world, being on any of the ESPN networks is like being on national tv. it's not like if you want to see TN play App st, you won't be able to.

and it's a far cry from the days of pay per view....truth be told, i'd rather be on SECN for this game.

we have plenty of other games coming up where we'll get all the attention we want...and then some.

ESPN is smart to put their better games on SECN. Most basic packages don't include SECN. It's extra. So if you're a fan that can't miss the big game you'll plunk down yer money to watch. Same content, more cash for ESPN. No brainer.

The only thing I see about the Vandy, South Carolina game is that the winner will be the leader in the SEC. So if everyone else quits, they will become SEC Champs. OR would that be chumps as in muschump?

Probably the ONLY chance for Vanderbilt to say they are LEADING the SEC should they win--EVER. Of the two I'd rather Vandy win over Muschamp.

Careful. That's borderline Chucky Keaton talk. :ermm:

That's just crazy to think there's a chance that Vandy may be 1st in the East for any period of time!?!?

I wish Pusschump could lose every single game he coaches after that smart azz remark about being happy for UT fans being disappointed.

Vandy-South Carolina is going to be such a mess and some truly sloppy football.

Our game starts 30 minutes before theirs, we are the only Top 10 team playing that night, haters are going to watch us hoping for an Appy-State/Michigan repeat, and skeptics are going to want to see if the hype is real.

There is a lot more intrigue in our game. People will watch.

Truthfully Thurs won't prove much of anything to anyone. Fans of other teams may watch it simply because it's college football. But most fanbases will be counting down to Saturday and all of the great games that will be on. I like opening up with a cupcake but would love to be included in all those high profile games that start Sat morning and run through Monday night. It definitely is the best opening weekend for college football ever. The amount of high profile games is incredible and will make for the best opening weekend ever for college football. I can't wait till Thurs but am looking forward to parking my a$$ in front of the TV the whole weekend.

A Thursday away game wouldn't have been my choice, but it means I get football two days early!

47 1/2 hours!

I get it maybe a hassle if you live in Knoxville, but I am an alum in Flagstaff, az. I work 4 10s. Off on fridays. I am trying to expose a yankee NFL SNOB to the best experience in sporting, a VOLS game. HD beverage nice az sunset. Can't lose.

It gives us more time to prep for VT.

BTW I expect Vandy to win 16 - 11 with 3 defensive scores and 3 safeties.

That dynamic duo only produced 10 points versus Clemson last year. The Vols defense may well be better.

I think we moved the game to Thursday because TV asked us to and we didn't refuse the request.

Ding ding ding! We stepped up and that gives us goodwill points for the foreseeable future. Wouldn't expect to play on Thursday until I have a great grandchild.
