Thursday Scrimmage Stats

I will admit though I'm not on the Poole bandwagon. I just don't think he will be that good; maybe average at best. I could be wrong (I hope I am); just what I've seen.

I like Poole but am on no one's bandwagon at any position at this point... maybe Walker, Jackson, and Reviez.

But I'd like to know what you've "seen". Last year, I saw a guy albeit in limited opportunities who demonstrated good vision, power to run through tackles, very good cutting ability, and a very good burst.

The most impressive thing about that scrimmage run is that it seems to have come against first line DB's... guys who are supposed to be ALOT faster than Poole- 67 yards with at least two cuts is a LONG time for DB's to catch up.

I'm not saying he will be a success. I AM saying he's shown glimmers of the RB skills and talent that makes a guy successful.

So again, what exactly have you "seen"? What specifically does he NOT do well that you think will keep him from being a very good back?

6 yards passing from your starting QB going against the 1's is not encouraging. No way to spin it.

I think there will be a point in the season where we will actually say we miss Crompton. My prediction is that it will soon become obvious why each of the last 2 staffs thought JC was the best option even when he struggled.

I already do.

Being caught from behind by WKU DBs is a pretty big negative for me.

Why? Because WKU has no fast players? You are more impressed with that one play than runs against UT's secondary?

And that's a "big" negative? Bigger than consistently running up blockers backs and failing to see cut back lanes?

my question is why did stephens only throw 9 freakin passes???

I imagine the play calling was slowed down a bit to get him over anxiety issues. Stephens will be just fine. He has all the mental and physical tools as long as he can keep his poise.

The biggest reason we will all miss Crompton is because of his mental stability.

Stephens is a head case and once he makes a mistake or hears the boos he will be no good. I have absolutely no faith that he can learn from in-game mistakes and get better. Yes, you can quote me on this and bring it up during the season if I am wrong.

Crompton was amazing with his perseverance. He took more abuse than anyone could ever deserve for playing a game and he overcame it all.

That is the biggest thing that will separate Stephens/Simms/Bray from Crompton at this point.

Another is heart, but that is a different rant.

Actually the numbers you're using are incorrect... According to UT he had a total of 94 yards. One run was 67 yards the other 8 rushes he got a total of 27, which is 3.37 per attempt. That's not very good. I will admit though I'm not on the Poole bandwagon. I just don't think he will be that good; maybe average at best. I could be wrong (I hope I am); just what I've seen.
How many times have you calculated yards per attempt after taking out the RB's longest run? Take out a long run and a lot of RBs' YPA goes down to looking mediocre.

"Starting cornerbacks Eric Gordon and Naz Oliver," who are these guys?

Oliver was a 3star.

Evans will be starting at one of the CB spots when he gets healthy. Clark will be competing for a starting spot when he gets here too.

we'll see. stephens has shown me nothing the last few years that hint at him being an sec-caliber qb. i wouldn't be surprised to see him start the season only to lose the starting job to someone else. that being said, i hope i'm wrong....but i'm just calling it like i see it.

hopefully this offseason pays dividends for him
