Dr. Naismith's rules got tossed for street ball rules, they convinced themselves if it looked fluid it wasn't walking and now you get a gather step, and it goes on and on. I've got a friend that's a ref in HS and he said he's heard it all and he's got to the point where he's apprehensive on calling traveling because some of the younger refs will justify it by what they have seen trend in the NBA and say man you gotta let that go that's the new game. Its street ball on steroids. The other one I have an issue with is the “Eurostep”. Nobody can convince me that’s not walking based on the original rules of basketball.
I like the one where they are dribbling, catch the ball against their thigh, go under with the palm, turn it over and continue dribbling. I saw Mashack do this several times post-mid-court.
If you want to see an egregious non-call on a travel, watch the replay about 17:40 to go in the 1st half. Denver Jones was at the top of they key when he drug his pivot foot not once, not twice, but three times. It would be more understandable when it happens in heavy traffic under the goal, but this one was in the open. Ridiculous. Also, like, an actual euro step is two steps. It’s one. Two. Shot. A 3 step euro step should always be called traveling (even though I know it’s not). All I’m saying is the euro step is legal by the rules. How people use it or execute it isn’t always legal

And don’t even think they will ever call palming/carrying. I believe it was Alan Iverson that killed that rule.I thought the original rule was that you get 1 and a half steps. When you picked up the dribble, you got one step and up. Any more than than that was walking. At least it was back in the Dark Ages when I played. I know things are a lot more liberal in the rules these days. They don’t call 3 seconds, charging or over the back either.
Then the only 1 seeds will be Duke and Houston I guess. Well, St John’s only has close losses too. Auburn and Florida both got embarrassed, one by us and one by the other.Agreed about the play style... disagree about us DESERVING a 1 seed.
IMO, #1 Seeds don't get embarrassed on the court at the start of league play,, MAYBE in early NOV., not in January.
That’s the one I was referring to earlier. Moved his pivot foot 3 times. If you want to see an egregious non-call on a travel, watch the replay about 17:40 to go in the 1st half. Or illegal screens, except on us. And there’s no such thing as a pivot foot anymore.I thought the original rule was that you get 1 and a half steps. Gainey puts his entire hand under the ball every time he dribbles.Every player in college and pro ball carries (by the letter of the law) on every single possession, no exceptions. Go and watch part of a game from the '60's or '70's and you saw none of that, but I guess sometime in the '90's the "rule" changed.
I think he was talking about Florida losing to Tennessee by 20 without Ziegler and Milicic playing the entire gameHow exactly has Auburn been embarrassed? Close losses to all ranked teams (4 of the 5 of which against teams in the top 10 in the nation). I mean, played down to expectations sure, but embarrassed is a tad extreme lol
Yep, it is not the same game at all, but he still gets credit for inventing the game, but the game played today mirrors more the street ball rules that were gradually adopted throughout the years. Then some rules that needed technology to invoke such as shot clock, It is what it is some very exciting play but some nuances that leads to confusion, I mean you can see reels that say, walking or great move, new Euro super gather step and half will answer definite walk were other 50% will say great move by a fluid player.if we played by Naismith’s original rules there wouldn’t be any dribbling
I agree and hope, hope the committee has Fla and Tn fighting for the 1 today with the loser getting a two. Should be simple making the bracket with two slots open, a 1 and a 2 then slide the names in place.Just about everything about your post confuses me. If we win tomorrow, granted a big if, but we would absolutely deserve a 1 Seed. The consensus across basketball world is that the SEC Final Four is better and comprised of better overall talent than we'll likely see in San Antonio. The win would give us 11 Quad 1 wins and a championship of the best conference top to bottom in the history of college basketball. I think you're putting way too much emphasis on that FL road loss. For one thing, we returned the favor in the rematch, and while it was Jan as opposed to Nov, it was also one of our first conference games. All considered it seems you're working pretty hard to play devil's advocate when there are plenty of reasons to argue in favor of the Vols.
All the talking heads are trying to do their best to make the college game mimic the pro game. They will ruin the game if they get their way. Old Jay Balias was whining over and over yesterday "that should have counted as 2 points...continuation like in the pros...bla, bla, bla" What a jackass.YES....the EUROSTEP is absolutely a walk....3 sec call was favorite call for refs a few
Years ago never called today's game
