Great article here that sums up my feelings about everything exactly for the mature vol fan out there. I wanted to call attention to it. Agree with everything said. (Hope the link works from Phone)

"In many ways, Jones is a victim of the expectations he created via those recruiting classes. Fans get star struck by all those five- and four-star recruits. They don’t realize there is a mandatory waiting period for high school phenoms to come of age in the SEC.

With a handful of noteworthy exceptions, UT’s most talented players are sophomores and freshmen. That’s one of the reasons the Vols have experienced so many growing pains this season."

You return a line that gave up 48 sacks last year. Replace aj with a walkon. Yet we expect to win the east.

Growing pains don't cause you to kick a field goal from the 3 inch line, go ultra conservative, and botch games. That's coaching. The players are going to make mistakes. That's just football. It's the so called "self inflicted" coaching wounds are the reason that Butch is on the hot seat. If we lined up and got beat and did everything we could do, and the other teams were just better than we are then I could use the talent excuse.... not anymore. :eek:k:

The field goal was the right call with a young team. You take the points. My daughter asked me about it before the decision was made. I kick the FG. We lost by seven; the TD has the loss at 3. Most coaches take the points.

Excuses, excuses! How many times does a freshman or sophomore have to beat us before we quit using the "we're to young" line!

Growing pains? Mandatory waiting period? That is why Florida ate through a 13 point Tennessee lead in 10 minutes with 3 freshman on their O line? That is why Tennessee can jump out to a huge lead on OK, and then go so stagnant and conservative on Offense that the D has to stay on the field until they are gassed, and can't stop anyone? That is why you have a coach who, when every chart and stat says you are to go for 2, decides that the EP is the right decision? That is why you have a 14 point lead, moving the ball against the Arky D, and controlling the game during the first 1 1/2 quarters, allow a team to come back, tie the game, and pretty much shut your offense down in the second half, and with less talent, and young players?

I can't tell you the number of times I have heard the youth excuse, and yet see true freshman on other SEC teams play at an incredible level for the entire season. It comes down to coaching, period.

I also agree with the article in that Butch has come across as thin skinned. He looks like he is starting to crack in his pressers. He is looking dejected. I think if these kids give up on him though... It's because of the fan base giving up on them. Think about what we are dealing with here. 18. Yr olds told they were going to win the east. told they were different thier whole life. You don't step on the field and expect to win. You earn it. These kids have less than six college games under them.

Most coaches never win a national championship either.

Florida's roster is no better and they are 5-0.

They return a defense that was rated in the top 10 the past 3 years. They will always have equal or better talent than tennessee. The state of Florida produces more sec talent than the state of Tennessee. Jimbo only has so many scholarships to give out. There's always gonna be talent going to Gainesville.

Florida has not gone thru the attrition that we have. The problem is everybody forgot Muschump was gone. Fla had tons of talent just nobody knew what to do with it.

To be fair, the vast majority of those were before Dobbs came in.

Dobbs does not play on the line. He's not Michael Vick, Steve Young or Randall Cunningham. He's mobile but they are trying to keep him healthy. They preached before the season to Dobbs was to get down. meaning not taking any unnecessary hits. Let's face it, this line would be serviceable in the MAC or Big East. Not so much in the SEC. JR is the best lineman, and he was the best lineman as a freshman. They may as well play JJ, DR, and CH at this point. I am tired of seeing 63 and 71 getting blown into the back field.

Oh the youth excuse. Let's be clear, every single school in the country has youth. It's college football. It's up to the coaches to make men out of them.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: At 5-0, with 19 freshmen/sophomores on the 2-deep, it does seem pretty great to be a Florida Gator right now: http://foxs.pt/1PZlxRM

We lost by 7 in overtime. The touchdown would have won it for us in regulation. Great math there buddy. Anything you need to say to keep defending him

Is that anything like CILF?

Coach I'd like to be fired? BJ? You still here?

To be fair, the vast majority of those were before Dobbs came in.

He still struggled against teams with a good dline. QD, JG, and HJ will all be better qbs. Whether it's do to injury or bama blowing us out, the fans get their wish and QD gets playing time.

Not only will we still be young next year, according to Butch we'll actually be much younger than this year or the year before or the year before or......
