Same as last year. We are so content with inside runs. If it's working...fine. But so often it doesn't work. That's when you try something else! even if we aren't consistent with the down the field pass it opens up the run game. I can really in recall one down the field pass. And it went for a freaking td! Just feels like last year all over again

Got to give Appy State some credit though. They had us scouted pretty darn good and had all summer to plan for us. That being said we had all summer to. But their motion option style is much more complicated than our option dive plays. We survived. I'm thankful for that. But by game 2 I want to see more versatile play calling.

2 problems... Dobbs can't throw, and Dobbs won't throw. He can't find open receivers, depends on first reads, and goes into paralysis when his first option isn't there.

We are doomed.

I can't stand running out of the shotgun or pistol formation. We've got two fantastic running backs having to run flat footed. If we're not going to have a passing game, lineup in single formation and let Hurd or Kamara get going rather having to start flat footed.

They had guys all over the place in the secondary. The Vols should have ran right at them over and over. I thought they were going east and west too much

I legitimately don't see the purpose in not throwing it against these 1v1 match ups. Especially with Malone and Preston Williams. These guys can go up and catch... Why not? You have to get them to stop stacking the box.

Well you also have to have a QB who can throw the ball to them. If you want a pass game put Dormady in.

I think he is in there because he is one of UT's surest tacklers in space at full speed, critical for a punt return defense. You can't exalt special teams and claim that it is so important while simultaneously not playing your best players for fear that something like that will happen, imo.

Dobbs is not the best passer but when we let him throw something besides screens wheel routes we always have some level of success. He had some nice throws tonight. the whole "dobbs cant pass" noise is because our offensive coaches blow snd dont know how to schemeto his strengths
