Throw the bag at Jalon Daniels

Let's do something clever like throwing money at a QB who will have no time to get emersed into our system prior to the start of play. Let's find a mercenary QB. Someone middle of the pack, maybe a .500 team. Someone rated around 147th best QB in his class. Someone who couldn't get a sniff of an SEC scholarship coming out of high school. Someone who has looked good against sub par talent. Maybe has almost the same # of interceptions as TD's. Maybe a 57%ish completion rate at a mind blowing 10yard per pass average.

We must do anything we can to keep a 4* in state kid who was #11 QB in his recruiting cycle off the field. Can you imagine even trying that?

Ohio State has proven throwing the bag at players works. We have to ask ourselves what are they doing differently than us? They, on top of paying big money for players, also have the lowest PPR (Player Portal Rate) in the Nation. So they are keep talent.

We need to continue to throw the bag at players but also evaluate why we have having retention issues.

Nico is an anomaly because we weren’t aware his father and camp were as toxic as they are.
They keep them because they put a ton of guys into the league, they're always in contention for a natty and when you leave, you're heading down the ladder. As to why they're so successful, they have better recruiters, coaches and evaluators.

OSU may prove how successful throwing money to enough of the right guys can be. Our Nico deals proves it can not only not be successful, but counter-productive. Hoping for a Hooker level acquisition, may not be sexy up front. A room with guys that fit the scheme and personnel COULD do nicely.
Scheme fits are nice. But the best teams get the best talent and adjust their team around that talent.

Remember when Butch Jones didn’t go after Trevor Lawrence because he wasn’t a good “scheme fit.”

I think that first part is what upsets me the most about Nico. I felt he had the ability to be a 1st round pick if he put the work in. Getting players drafted in the 1st round is what helps long term with recruiting.
