Is this Threet kid any good? He said he's transferring. Listed as a pro style QB. Should CLK make a pitch at him? He wouldnt be able to play till 2010-2011 season though....

Just from what I read we don't need the kid. This is his second transfer. He was originally at Georgia Tech I think and had to sit out the 2007 season. Now he's leaving Michigan for undisclosed reasons. Sounds to me like the kid has some issues.

I don't think there's a problem. He's trying to better himself. He's a Pro Style QB who's ended up in a triple option and then a spread offense. He wants a Pro Style offense that will allow him to excel (and play).

Yeah I don't think you can blame the transfers on him.

He signed with GA Tech before Paul Johnson came, who runs Triple Option.

Went to Michigan with Lloyd Carr, then Rich Rod came and he runs a spread, QB run type offense.

I would let him come, but I think i'd rather have Simms or Heaps.

I bet he'll try to get an unconditional transfer and use coaching philosophy changes as the reason...

We don't want him. If he couldn't beat out Taylor Bennet for GT's starting job yr before last then he'll never beat any of our qb's now. Trust me, this kid is not good.

He had no intentions of beating Bennet out. He enrolled at GT in December. Following the Bowl Season, Johnson came in with a new system, and Threet transferred. He didn't transfer because he couldn't start. It was because he didn't want to. He then transferred to Michigan under Lloyd Carr, and he subsequently retired. Under Rodriguez, they now run another system that requires a running QB.

Doesn't change the fact that this kid is terrible.

Seriously, though. Why not use a scholarship to bring in a veteran QB to compete with freshmen? I think that using 1 scholarship will not hurt our chances at all. He was a successful high school QB who has just, by some terrible stroke of luck, struck out twice. He's giving it 1 last shot, and if he knows that we aren't going near a spread anytime soon, he may take his last attempt at the Hill.

Are you related to this guy? We don't want him here. He is not good enough to play here. Veteran QB? Are you kidding me? He's no more veteran than BJ Coleman is. Why waste the scholly...

i wouldn't go as far as to say that he's a standout college level QB because he's not, but he's not horrible. he did start 8 games last year and ended up with 1100 yards passing off of 102-210 and 9 TDs. he did manage to do this with a rotation of about 10 different players making up his O line and 9 of those being freshmen or players from another position and only 2 starters on the offense returning from the previous year.

Why the hell is it that whenever anybody stands up for someone, and others disagree, they are immediately accused of being related?
To answer your question, no I am not related. I have no connection to him whatsoever. I do, however, want to see competition at the QB position. What do you base your information on? He played in 11 of 12 games for Michigan this year, which is more than anyone on our team can say. He completely over 50% of his passes, had 9 touchdowns, and completed over 100 passes in a run-happy offense.

if we get heaps then it would be nice to have a quarterback like threet with limited eligibility to fill in during the mormon mission.

Ut doesn't need any failed retreads from other programs. Lane K needs to develop his own recruits from high school.

I don't think UT is in any position to turn down quarterbacks, especially those like Threet that have potential.

You seem awfully sure of your talent evaluation skills. I think it's funny that you assume he's not a veteran. For all we know, he could be exceptionally savvy and quick to learn a playbook.

In other words, if our staff wants him then I'll trust their opinion.
