1. No senior leadership. As most on here know, we don't have a ton of upperclassmen that can say they have been there and done this. So, this is a major contributing factor to our woes in the 2nd half this year, and last. As you could see, experience played a huge roll for Bama, and that's how you win.

2. No 3rd down conversions the 2nd half. I think even a blind monkey can see that Simms isn't going to be the answer. We all were "hoping" he could manage the game enough to get us in position to win, but without others around him that are elite enough to offset his problems, he's not going to get it done. That's pretty apparent as Bama held us to 0-5 in the second half for 3rd down conversions.

3. 11:34 Time of Possession in 2nd half. This is obviously a direct contributor to our 3rd down woes, but it also shows our inability to stretch out drives by running the ball effectively and not throwing incomplete passes.

I think we all are now down from the start of the season clouds, and realize this is a 7-5 or 6-6 team. There is nothing that we can do about it, and losing 2 of our elite players on offense, having an anemic running game, and depth issues all over the board is something that would kill any team's hopes of having better than closer to a .500 season.

Let's all just hope Justin Worley throws it 50 times a game next week, because our WR corp is much better at getting yards than our RBs.

Our running game was about as good as you can hope against a defense like Alabama. With good pass play, I think its a good balanced offense, but we won't ever have good pass play with Simms

Good stuff Eric.

Well I hope they hurry up and grow up because these hangovers are getting harder and harder to shake off.

4. Beating Bama at their place at night requires a stroke of luck and quite possibly the best team in the nation.

I heard tomato juice and hot sauce work wonders for those brother. :)

Won't beat SC throwing it 50 times. In fact Nance might be the QB by the time that game is over. SC rushes the passer as well or better than anyone in this league.

I'll go with experience over depth as far as why we keep getting trucked in the 3rd quarter. I have another theory about the 3rd quarter woes but i don't want to get anyone upset so i won't share it. 2012 here yet?

The only thing that contributed to the loss last night was that Alabama is that much better than the Vols right now...No other reasons, really...

Matt Simms
Awful playcalling
Team giving up in the second half
Alabama is better

What plays would you have called with Simms? He hangs on to the ball to long. Plus, he can't hit the broad side of a barn. He throws late over the middle (int) and instead of hitting a wide open TE for a TD he throw into triple coverage.

Wow. Even with the benefit of hindsight, what would you have called differently that would've made any difference with our personnel?

If you are going to leave Simms in there, you might as well let him throw it every now and them. Are you arguing that the offense was effective? Because it obviously wasn't.

About the same as.... What good does it do you to know the plays if you can't execute them. I'd have put Worley in sooner. It was obvious the offense was stuck in neutral with Simms at QB.

I would have let him have the 4th quarter. Down 27-6 to Bama it was over anyway.

Why? His passes don't have a very good history of being caught by UT players.

Too much turnover risk. At any rate, it looks like he's back on the bench.

Seems like I remember a team with a 3rd down conversion problem from last year too. That's right, the first few games when MS was QB we were worst in the nation.

Fine, let him throw the ball deep so if they intercept it, it is more like that punt that was coming anyway.

Yea, instead of giving our defense 4 quick plays off, we should've only given them 1. I see your point.

Also, I'd much rather have our special teams covering "punts" because, as you've seen, our offense doesn't tackle very well.

One slight oversight........You were playing one of the top teams in the country .....Alabama. I thought that UT played extremely well and really has nothing to reflect upon going forward.

Just incase nobody has pointed it out.here it goes.
Matt Simms sucks, one would think a sr. qb would be better than this just because of being older but this guy is just pathetic.
Tn was like 4th in the nation at 3rd% before Simms took over and they showed it sometime during the first qt and it was 54% coming into the game and the 2nd half it was 0%.Just like last year when he was qb and Tn was something like 0/1000 it seemed like on 3rd down.
Ok im done but one more thing Simms sucks
