Thoughts the morning after heartbreak

Here’s my thoughts, we need more Blue Chips in the trenches.
Yes, we need big boys that can hit a RB at the line and not give up 3 or 4 yards after. Need big boys that can get in the backfield and disrupt timing of plays better. We always look small on DL, especially when the camera on field gives you a view on the field level.

These 8-4 or 9-3 comments are blowing my mind. If we get healthy, we are winning out.
Hope you are right but this defense is nonexistent right now. Last offensive series to kick the FG was really disappointing. Playing not to lose. The entire SEC is tough this year.
Can we beat Bama and UF on the road? Oky. looks good and Miss. St. is no pushover.

Dropped passes to extend drives
Taking the foot off the gas
False start before the FG attempt
Not lining up the FG with time/timeout and a play to use

Getting beat one on one deep one 3rd and long
Student body left runs
Dropped INT’s

Agreed this team has to go 8-1 the rest of the season and I just don’t see it with the schedule before us.

I would like to ask CJH why didn’t he use a timeout after the false start to allow Gilbert time to reset.

My complaint on that is I thought he would kick on 3rd down before the penalty play. In that situation it gives you another opportunity should there be a bad snap. I do understand wanting to center the ball. That false start penalty in that situation is maybe one of the worst penalties I can remember.
I 100% agree with you but after the false start call, Heupel started to second guess himself, I can almost guarantee you he thought, "Oh ****, if we run another play that might happen again" and panicked a little. Gilbert was probably also taken aback when he was told to go out on 3rd down, considering there were 7 seconds left and we still had plenty of time to run another play to center the ball and get a little closer. It was helter-skelter all the way around. At the end of the day, Gilbert makes that kick almost every time but the pressure got to him. I'm not going to pile onto him, but he has to step up and make the play in that situation, and he didn't. He was in control of something he's done thousands of times and didn't execute when it mattered most.

The key here is getting healthy. Reports are leaking out that neither McCoy or Gibson will play the rest of the season which is going to severely limit how we scheme moving forward.
Agree - if true . . . Teams will scheme to attack our corners consistently. UGA has given the blueprint. Redmond especially will get picked on.

I would add Jeff Lebby will scheme us for sure.

I hope it isn’t true and is just forum rumors. You are right we have to start giving Redmond some help over the top which will open the middle of the field up. I trust we will scheme around it but starting a freshman DB is tough with this schedule.

Several things cost us the game. 1) Injuries made us thin on Defense, making stopping the run harder. 2) Penalties hurt us, especially the false start at the end of the game. 3) The kicker misses the game-winning field goal. 4) Coaching made some mistakes. We were good enough to survive a couple of those reasons, but not all. I was impressed with the heart this team has.
If we can get healthy, I don't see a game that is a sure loss. We can still have a great season. If the kicker makes the kick, VN would think CJH can walk on water. JMHO GO VOLS!

I can’t imagine seeing this game and not being optimistic about the rest of the season.

Same. Every time I come here I’m reminded of why I hardly ever visit the FF anymore. Was floored last night when I came in here and literally saw threads calling for staff changes 😂

People are way over analyzing Heupel’s decisions at the end of regulation. #74 made an absolutely boneheaded penalty at the worst possible moment, but we still ended up with a very makeable FG attempt, and ultimately lost because our kicker choked. It sucks, but it happens.

I was kinda hoping we would’ve gone for the jugular and tried to score a touchdown on that drive, but at the end of the day, Heupel still put his team in a position to win the game, and they ultimately failed to execute.

But the beauty of the new system is it’s not the end of the world or the season anymore. We could very realistically get another crack at UGA down the road via multiple routes.

Here's my thoughts. We need to clean up the penalties. Ga never had a flag throwed on then the whole second half. Think about that. Were they that perfect? We got a top 10 football team that if they are coached up can be in the playoff. The D- Line the whole game looked like they didn't know where to be looking at the sideline with their hands up asking where they need to be. That's on the STAFF. Get it fixed.
Georgia held twice on the first play of OT. Two of our DPI calls were trash calls. just saying

That was a waisted performance that the coaches blew plain and simple. You got to win games against good teams that you had won jeez tired of the excuses every year you had their ass beat
I just can’t see how yall keep blaming the coaches when we had a 38 yard fg for the win set up in the middle of the field before a goofy false start and an extremely nervous fg kicker missed an easily make-able 43 yarder…players have to execute if before the game you told any Vol fan that we would be tied with a chance to win it at the end from 43 yards we all take that 100x out of 100… like UGA is an excellent team and their coaches get paid like ours… they will make plays and we made ours we made more than enough plays and calls to win we just didn’t get it done at the end… but to act like this was some huge choke job from the coaches is dumb..

I'm betting he was trying not to ice his own kicker. I do wish he took a timeout there. Kicker was already a little iced from the penalty and would have had time to make a well thought out decision on what to do next.

It is damned if you do damned if you don’t in that scenario. I think you are right he didn’t want to ice his kicker and inadvertently did.

Just my take -
I was skeptical of this team before yesterday. Even though we lost, I am actually positive about this team. Aguilar is such a breath of fresh air from Nico. To me, the receivers are very good. The offensive line sure seemed to hold their own yesterday. Kitselman is a very good TE. Although we do not have a Dylan Sampson, I feel the 3 running backs are effective, especially Thomas. The tackling sure needs to be improved and I feel Teelander is a step slower than the others. If we can get Moi, Dobbs, and McCoy back I feel it will make a huge difference on the defensive side. I actually feel that this team can win out or lose just one more game. I still feel that CFP is within reach. I just hope that Heupel sees that he doesn't need to stifle this offense anymore.

We’re not getting healthy. Gibson is done. McCoy, if he even plays at all, will not be near 100%. Hobbs has been hurt since he got here and if Moi comes back, he won’t be near 100% either.

And that’s just those guys, someone else will get hurt at some point.

ETSU got what they wanted. The score meant nothing to them.
It's the $$$$ they receive, very important to the smaller schools, not just to ETSU. They know the odds when they agree but they do get recognition for also being on the big stage.

At least you have a positive mindset....
