Great game today, Vols! Awesome victory.

Unfortunately, there's not much time to rest before facing the Cavs on Sunday. What are your thoughts on the game? I don't know a lot about Virginia, so I'd like to hear your thoughts on how we matchup against them. It sounds like they have a couple of good scorers in Reynolds and Singletary.

Looking ahead to the third round, I will be in Rupp rooting against Ohio State. Not that we can't beat the Buckeyes though. For now, bring on the Cavs! I heard that they don't have a dominating frontcourt player. Anytime it's a battle of the backcourts, I think the smart money is on Lofton.

It will be a tough game. I watched UVA play, and they looked impressive today in their first round game against Albany. But likewise, you guys blazed right through Long Beach with 121 points and offense galore. I picked you guys, and Lofton can always take over a game when he is on.

from what i have seen they have one of the better backcourts in the nation. their leading rebounder only brings down 6 a game, and their leading frontcourt scorer amongst only scores 9 a game. I also saw that the opening line has us as a 2 point favorite

We have to make someone other than Singletary and Reynolds beat us. They may be the best backourt in the nation

We definetly need need our guards to play great with the ball handling of Singletary and Reynolds I doubt we'll be able to turn them over out of the press as much as usual.

They might be the best shooting back court in the nation, but they do have some ball control issues. I think that they will turn it over a lot, and they don't seem to get the turnovers they need playing at a fast pace. I think that UT will just get many more possessions leading to a Vol victory and a Sweet 16 appearance. :good!:

Interesting summary of the two teams and a statistical comparison at
NCAA Basketball The Edge - CBS SportsLine.com
As far as statistics go, the two teams are very well matched. The Vols score a few more points on average (a good thing!), but get fewer rebounds and have a lower free throw percentage (no news there).

Both teams blew out their first round opponents (who had very close final RPIs, 80 and 83, and equally bad strength of schedule numbers). The Vols come into the game with a better record against a significantly harder schedule, so we should be able to win this one. The two teams do seem to be fairly closely matched.

This is not true. As good as the pair of them is scoring, the turn the ball over too much to be very consistent.

go to the VAU website worried about the press and should be. The ACC is a solid league but the SEC is intense and puts more pressure this year on the ball than the ACC does. UVA will be prepared for that but not for the consistant pressure UT will bring throughout the game. We have played good and solid frontcourts this season and have been very successful. This is just like another team in our conference on the lower tier.

This is a really good post. Thanks! :):good!:

I guess now I'm wondering why Virginia is a 4 seed and Tennessee is a 5 seed. Tennessee had a much higher RPI, played a harder schedule, and had more wins. Both teams lost their first game in their conference tournament to similar teams (LSU 17-15 RPI 92, NC State 18-15 RPI 91). Seems to me like the Vols should have gotten the 4 seed over the Cavs. Maybe Tennessee's lackluster road performance was a deciding factor. I guess it doesn't really matter too much, as the two teams will decide it on the court tomorrow.

Based on the people who know a lot more about Virginia than I, it seems that UT should be able to handle them. I like that.

They apparently don't have much of an inside presence, so that bodes well for UT's youth inside.

lets not forget we are not really scrubs on the inside, it just feels like it cause we go aginst the best in the country day in and day out. when you go aginst oden, big baby, noah, hansboro, durrant, your going to look alittle bad at times. all im saying is watch for crews and chism to do some big things on the inside tommorrow

I know our road record was horrible, but its not like UVA was good. They got beat by Utah and Appy St. among others. Also most of those 'experts' have been saying they are overseeded

They also stated it comes down to their two premire guards versus our one. Gimme a break. There are 7 more players on the court that may have something to say about that.

We are seeded just at the right spot. I think if we had done better in the SEC we would have been the 4 seed and VA the 5 Seed. LSB would have probably won that game because of the styles of play. Would have been interesting.

Being the only Tennessee fan in a University of Virginia house, I have watched UVA play many times this year. Sean Singleterry is MONEY. He is definately there clutch player. Jr Reynolds is also a very dominant player. They have alot of size and they are very quick. But I think we can definately handle them

Here is some interesting stuff from me, one of the stat geeks:

Tennessee has played 12 games against Pomeroy's top 50 with 70 or more possessions in the game (higher than average pace at 70). We are 8-4 in those games.

Virginia has ONLY PLAYED 4 GAMES against Pomeroy's top 50 with 70 or more possessions in the game, and they are 2-2.

Seems to me, while Virginia has played some up tempo games, it hasn't been against great competition like Tennessee.

The 4 games where Tennessee lost vs Pom50 and Pace70+ were to North Carolina, Ohio State, Florida, and Vanderbilt.

The 2 games where Virginia lost vs Pom 50/Pace70+ were to North Carolina and Boston College.

Against Pom50 and Pace -70, Virginia is 6-2.

LET'S RUN AND GUN!
