Thoughts on this post?

I don't think this is truly anything new. It seems more to be a feature of teams who get along really well.

We all develop little rituals. Some invisible to others, some right out there. Sign of the cross, fist pump, head down for a second, whatever it is. Everyone has something. Some have many somethings.

But collective rituals seem to develop most easily among groups who get along uncommonly well. Who are tight. Like the 2022 BaseVols. They are tight, and have developed a whole family of rituals, involving hats and fur coats and falling to one's knees, and hands over the eyes, and all kinds of stuff. That's them.

I wouldn't say that's new in the 2020s. I've been on teams and in units that developed rituals, from all the way back to the 1970s.

It's just really evident with these lads. Because they're a team in the purest sense of the word. More than most.

Go Vols!

One thing I learned from playing a decade of softball:

If everyone on the team has a nickname, they are harder to beat than a team yelling "Get a hit Andrew. Way to go Steve. Nice catch Joe. Good slide Stan"

The only thing they have done this year other than being a TEAM is get on a lot of nerves. Isn't this what we are known for anyway........just more ESPN fodder. I have yet to hear all of the Media's outrage over the false PED use thing. This is just how things are done now.

I’m sure the GT outfielder suffered serious emotional damage and never will be the same. Meanwhile ESPN’s erroneous report of PED usage has been conveniently forgotten about now. Seriously I’m fine with being cast as the villain at this point.

Somebody should just Ask Honcho why?
Believe it was to the RF area and not the CF or the RF.
Beck's position is RF so he was probably harassed the entire game from the Stands by GA Tech Fans.
There are two sides to every story we have not heard Beck's side.
Baseball is full of jawing and this could another instigator of the event.
The ESPN was what it was --- Same as usual and can see why fans are tired of the Whipping boy think.
ESPN will not for some reason go all in on trash talking any other SEC team. I wonder why....
Think about it, they stooped low enough to go after Pat Summit at one point in the 90s with the Geno.
So it is understandable why Tennessee fans hate ESPN.
Heisman Campaign against Manning, Trailer Trash, Kiffin incidents, Schinio, McDonalds Bags, Fulmer, PEDS and the list goes on and on. Any little gig they can take they do.
It is easy to understand why we hate ESPN....
GA Tech incident there has got to be more to it than we know as FANs

...

It is easy to understand why we hate ESPN....

Every school has incidents. Every school has disappointments. Every school has a list like this. Some longer than ours, some shorter.

We remember ours. Because we pay more attention to our own program. But if you think Penn State and USC and Alabama and Louisville and every other school doesn't have its share of scandals and let-downs and bad press, you're myopic.

I'm not saying we shouldn't hate ESPN. They're deplorable in a number of ways. But singling us out more than our fair share is not one of them.

Go Vols!

I partially agree with some of your points.

The schools listed are all Self Inflicted Wounds and should have been covered.

Yes, we have done our fair share and should have been called out on some things, but ESPN goes out of their way to overpromote it....Our hires at AD and coaching levels are Self Inflicted wounds.

What's Sad, is that ESPN somewhat supported Saban over Fisher.... Saban uses ESPN like a tool.

If we rehired Bruce Pearl where would ESPN stand on this front.
It is a constant jab with them towards our University.
What's more they did not have to embellish nor did they have to create those stories.

Trailer Trash, and the Woodson Promotion and several others (McDonald's Drive Thru) were blatant acts.
The Geno - Pat thing was more of a Promotion created and fed by Geno. "Recruiting and ESPN tour"

The OP referenced was just stating "I am Mad as Hell and I am not going to take it Anymore" from Network.

Frustration and opinions, the nice thing about it is you can have your opinion and I can have mine. Somewhere between the two opinions is all that matters.....

I truly believe Danny White will fix this for the Good.

You miss my main point, brother.

For each incident or controversy or disappointment you're aware of at another school, there are a dozen others that you never heard of or have long forgotten. Why? Because you're not a fan of those schools. You don't pay attention to them the way you do to the Vols program.

You think anyone (besides us Vols fans) remembers that Johnny Majors or George Cafego were passed over for the Heisman? You think fans of other schools remember that Chris Fowler once said something about "trailer trash" or who he was talking about?

They don't remember that stuff. Just like you don't remember all the things that their fan bases hold grudges about.

Every school has a long list of grievances and slights. To think this is something unique to us is to be self-focused and myopic.

This is a bit off topic with a hint of relevance to the "F" Garden being barren. One of my favorite "baseball stories" ever.

It was spring training, and John Kruk was significantly overweight. He was also drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. A woman recognized him, and she approached him. “You should be ashamed of yourself. You’re an athlete,” she said.

Kruk responded, “I ain’t an athlete, lady. I’m a baseball player.”

I think it’s magnified after Manning not winning the Heisman. The egregiousness of that debacle is what kind of cemented in all vol fans core. After that a lot of the stuff is self inflicted and the athletic dept being run like a clown show.

To be fair most other programs’ fans hate ESPN as well. Sure you probably have some Bama-wagon fans that like espn since they kiss Bama and Saban’s butt 24/7 but there was a time when Bama was treated like crap too. I remember several espn personalities laughing dismissively that Bama would never get Saban and they were an irrelevant program.

LOL! Freedom of speech or whatever. As long as the Vols are winning I don't care if they moon the pitcher after every dinger. "They hate us cuz they ain't us."

After the Mike Honcho homer vs Vandy getting called back, the PED claims against Evan Russell by Arkansas alum and the digs from Ole Miss, I don't blame Jordan Beck for telling the rest of the SEC and Ga Tech what he thinks of them! I mean, we loved it when Rashaan Gaulden did a double barrel salute after his Pick Six against Bama.

For the record, the first photographed middle finger salute was by a baseball player. Charles Radbourn of the Boston Braves in 1886. You can look it up......

An occasional single digit salute doesn't bother me one bit. I wouldn't make it a regular habit though because somebody will eventually break that puppy off....

Exactly. RockyTopRecruiting's post is idiotic--about 95 percent nonsense--and completely typical of Bubba's who mindlessly beat their chests and can't separate gold from gravel. He apparently thinks that because we've got a good baseball team, anything goes. Please. What: When one of our players hits a double, should he try to spit on the opposing shortstop when he gets to the bag....because he hit a double and we're good? And all of his blather about Tennessee being disrespected is equally dumb. You play hard, you have fun, but you also know where to draw the line when it comes to sportsmanship. You wanna flip your bat after hitting a dinger? Flip it--but don't flip it 15-feet in the air. There's a difference between people who have money and know how to act and goofs who win the lottery and act like fools. Let's not be lottery-winner people.

It's kind of funny that "fans" like you that have probably never played a sport outside of HS think you get to make the rules of sportsmanship. I mean seriously you say ok flip your bat but but not to high, you might hurt some Joe shmoes feelings cause it went 15 feet in the air instead of the legal 14 feet. Good grief, some of you need to control your own self before writing the book on proper etiquette.....smdh....

He was flipping off the baseball that he just smashed. Anyone that has played the game knows how tough it is to hit it sometimes. For those that are completely beside themselves over this, remember to exhale slowly as you remove the stick that is lodged in your bottom.

He should've thrown a bottle of mustard at him too.

I haven't seen anything wrong with what the baseball players have done this year. Some people don't like it that's fine as that is their opinion.

This is coming from a 56 yr old that has never liked baseball. Although I still think 4 hrs is way to long for a game, the last 2 years of Vols Baseball has changed my opinion. Now I still will not watch MLB, but let our team continue to do what they do! They make the game exciting! I actually watch and and enjoy watching. Shoot the bird, give the "X" chop, play with emotion and hit HR!

And thanks to CTV for letting the guys be themselves. He is building something special in Knoxville for years to come! GBO!

Some SERIOUS clutching of pearls going on up in here. Folks act like they ain't never done something brash or emotional in the heat of the moment......you're FOS.
