What are everyone's thoughts on Simms?
I looked at his highlights at El Camino on youtube. He looks pretty good on there. He is slinging the ball all over the field. He has good accuracy on out routes and fades and has pretty decent arm strength. I know the talent he was against probably wasn't up to SEC caliber and we'll see how that translates.
I see Gerald Jones is pretty high on him after reading his comments on TOS. If he stays healthy and we can keep defenses honest, I'm thinking we could be ok at QB this year.

Don't know much about him as far as his abilities but a far as his personality goes, let's just hope that he has turned the corner and matured.

I liked him better then Stephens. I think he will be a solid QB in the S.E.C., the lack of experience on the O-Line could affect him.

Hmmmmm.....What do I think about him ?

I think I don't know enough about him yet to make an intelligent evaluation which is the case about all our coaches and most everything about our program right now.

I'll just remain a positive minded fan and give it 3 years or so to make a mature, fact based evaluation then.

I think he beat out Stephens who was not better than Crompton last year. Therefore I think we will have equal qb play as last year at worst. Now we can talk about whether that was good play or not....

Wasn't aware that he beat Stephens out of the job...that is because he didn't.

The 3 of them were sharing snaps with the first team, the competition wold have went into the fall practice.

If you think that Matt Simms will be as good as Jonathon was last year, your a very optimistic individual.

This is a guy who quit ( just like Coleman and Stephens ) because he couldn't cut it.

I think Simms will be a solid QB... He wont be as bad as Crompton was at times, but he also won't be able to make some of thr throws Crompton could when he was playing well...

Luke Stocker has to become a huge par of this offense for his success.

They were not getting equal snaps with the first team. Stephens' reps were cut so that Simms and Bray were both getting more snaps. Stephens got zero snaps with the first team after the poor scrimmage.

Now, this does not mean Simms will be as good as Crompton, but he could also be better. It does mean Simms beat out Stephens.

This logic does not compute.

No one could possible be as bad as Crompton was in that UCLA game. Joey Matthews put on a better performance in his one career start.

Simms had been makeing better decissions and better reads inthe practices and in the scrimmage, coaches already saw and new that he was better than Stevens..

And he quit Louisville because they werent honest with him and he didnt feel comfortable there anymore, says no place has felt like home like UT has..be proud of that..if you think he didnt have insite and a plan you are wrong...remember, he has a pro father, who knows the business well....

This kid wants to be here, he wants to win here, why are some people being so hard on him?..why cant we just support him like true fans should?....

He wears Orange...Hes a Vol...GO SIMMS!

I think our brains came off the same assembly line. Our program is nothing but question marks right now and all any of us can do is wait and see. Unfortunately, patience is not a common virtue among football fans.

I hope Simms does well. He seems to have some tools. But it's going to be a challenging year for all our skill players--especially early in the year--because of our lack of experience in the offensive line.

Glad Simms is a vol. I think we are ok at the QB position with Simms and Bray, barring an injury.

Unlike most Vol fans, I was proud to have Simms join this team, when it was announced that he had signed with The University Of Tennessee. I knew he could be successful here, and although it's still very early he appears to be doing very successful this spring. So in conclusion, Im very proud to have Matt Simms lead this team at QB! Go Big Orange and Go Simms!

Simms looks like he has the confidence in his own abilities to be more consistent than Crompton. That's a good sign. I like a confident quarterback, even if he's a little cocky. He also seems to have the potential to develop into an SEC quarterback. I never felt that Stephens had the tools to lead us to victory over the best of the SEC.

Won't he be gone before 3 years... isn't he a junior? From juco?

Simms gives us the best chance to win IMO.....he played in 2 State Championship games in high school (where he threw for over 6000 yds and 60 TDs during his career at Don Bosco Prep), has a Div. I arm for sure, Juco should of helped him mature more and develop the mental side of the QB position, and has the swagger/cockiness needed to face the S.E.C. caliber D's at home or on the road.

I for one am excited we have him.....I believe once he is fully comfortable with the system and with the game breaker fire power :gun::machgun: type WR recruits we now have we are going to frustrate some teams for sure. We should now have some true deep threats on the edges.....something we haven't had for any of our QB's since Swain and Meachum were here. I also see us in shotgun alot with quick reads to give our O-line time to mature and to not get Simms crushed....as much....face it he is going to get hit more than any QB wants. But I just have a really good feeling in my gut with this kid's abilities to manage a game, make great reads, and finish drives with TD's.

Was it not amicable between he and Dooley? Do you think Dooley would have done anything to damage the relationship of his starting qb? Simms was outperforming and Stephens did not want stay around to compete. So yes, Simms has now beaten Stephens out of the job.

It would have been a fight until the fall, it was far from settled, Ginger just gave up.

He outperformed him?

They were both awful in that scrimmage.

Doesn't matter anyway, with Simms or with Stephens, we were in for a long season.

Yes..Simms was doing better of the two..even the team mates liked simms the best..what about this is so hard for you GahLee? Stevens is a senior,5th year,.simms just a junior,..give him a chance..coach met with stevens and even said he wasnt gonna lie to the guy to keep him here..he told him the truth, hey..simms is doing better...

what bothers me so much is that our guys read this stuff thats posted here, and its sad at some of the negetive "the sky is falling" BS they have to read and hear from THIER fans..and then we expect them to man up and play with confidence, but it sure doesnt look like we have faith in them...they deserve better support than what some give them.

Think about it guys, its gonna be just as hard on them through the hard times as it will be for us..lets be one team and get thru this together.I appericate every singel one of them for giving thier all for the University of Tennessee, and us fans,...thier all winners to me!!

He was doing better, I can agree with that but to say that the race was over is idiotic.

If any player takes to heart what is on this board, he has problems.
