Thoughts on retaining Hobby, Garner or both

With the news that Arkansas is targeting Marion Hobby for their open DL Coach position and Garner's contract expiring on Jan 31, 2026, what direction do you think DC Knowles is going with the DL coach position? Garner is a known commodity. He pretty much excels in all areas of being a position coach. I know Hobby was in an analyst position this past season, but he is almost as well regarded as Garner. His resume is extensive in both college football and the NFL. Plus, the VFL status doesn't hurt. I know that his career and DC Knowles career have crossed at the same time several times (w/ Cutcliffe at Ole Miss and Duke). IMO, based on their combined experience, it would be best if Tennessee could somehow retain both. Is this feasible? Just wondering what some of the more knowledgeable folks think about this situation.
For years, people wished for Rodney Garner to be our DL coach. He is here now, and I say Keep him! But I also respect Marion Hobby. If there is any way to retain them, do so, because there is no upgrade for them. Otherwise, every coveted coordinator and position coach has their moving company of choice on speed dial. Just like a lot of HC candidates. It is a highly mobile profession.

Here is a thought.....WHY? WHY can a university like TN say -- you/we will keep X,Y & Z? It's not NEGOTIABLE. Seriously, ask yourself why. You folks in "business", tell me why. What exactly prevents us, or anyone else for that matter, from saying NO? And DO NOT come at me with...'well that's the way it's done'. F that, because it's not smart. Right now, I'd suggest that half to 90% of coaching the 2025 carousel won't work. If so, it's basically the definition of insane.... yet it's still done regardless of a HIGHLY negative return. So WTF do it? Personally, at MANY universities - I would NOT do it and it's not even debatable.
Ummmm, what?????

But with a DC who is amongst the best at his job, we are in the playoffs this year.
I would seriously doubt that. Just didn't have the hosses to be good defensively, with only one DB that would have started on most other SEC contenders teams. We probably still lose to Bama, OU and Vandy which would have excluded us from the CFP. Good defense starts with DL. Next are CB's. We lost our two starting corners before the season started, which exposed Banks' deficiencies. I think we upgraded big time at DC, but I would take RG and just a good DC over a really good DC without RG.

I’ve heard RG may elect to retire & move back to Auburn.

Based on the amount of money paid, few areas were as underwhelming as the DL this year. The run defense especially was weak.

I was there when Hobby, Hayworth, Cobb were on campus. They’d hit Hilton Head too. Think all of us from back in late 80s are glad there were no cell phones/cameras.

If we had a really good DC this year we maybe lose the Bama game and that’s it. Vandy doesn’t smoke us and UGA goes down. OU definitely gets beat.
