With the news that Arkansas is targeting Marion Hobby for their open DL Coach position and Garner's contract expiring on Jan 31, 2026, what direction do you think DC Knowles is going with the DL coach position? Garner is a known commodity. He pretty much excels in all areas of being a position coach. I know Hobby was in an analyst position this past season, but he is almost as well regarded as Garner. His resume is extensive in both college football and the NFL. Plus, the VFL status doesn't hurt. I know that his career and DC Knowles career have crossed at the same time several times (w/ Cutcliffe at Ole Miss and Duke). IMO, based on their combined experience, it would be best if Tennessee could somehow retain both. Is this feasible? Just wondering what some of the more knowledgeable folks think about this situation.

Hobby, all the way. Time to move on.

From what I have read, the expectation is that RG will be back. I think the interesting one is Chop. Apparently was not very popular with the LEO’s this season. You are hearing chatter about the two returning LEO’s possibly entering the portal. The word on chop is great recruiter. Not a very good coach.

One would have to be a fool not to do everything within reason to retain RG.

100% this. Its as obvious as "water is wet".

We have consistently had our DLine be the strongest part of our defense under CJH...and put a couple DLine players in the league every season. Garner is the reason we flipped 3 Dline guys on signing day this year. 2 of them from other SEC schools with 1 of them being a top100 caliber recruit. Garner is 1 of the best DLine coaches in the nation and the most important assistant on that side of the ball. Would love to keep Hobby as well though. Not sure he stays sadly.

I am flabbergasted by the poster above saying we should move on from Garner. Not sure if he is a troll from another fanbase or just has no clue about our team, coaches, and SEC football.

I remember watching in the rain at Neyland Hobby in the 1989 (IIRC) game vs. Auburn. He blocked 2-3 passes and his new nickname was "Air Hobby". I hope he keeps them both, but understand its his defense.

This is one I'm curious about. Noone has been talking about Ekeler's departure very much and the potential impact it had this season.

Where have you seen our starting LEOs are rumored to be portaling? That is extremely concerning.

At this point we know, he said that he is going to make some me changes with Heupel’s green light. He’s been in this business for a long time so I going support their decisions. He seems to run three safeties, so he my go after a d back coach of his choosing.

With that said, hope he keeps Garner for recruiting.

I want Garnwr back as much as anyone. However, I also have to accept and support Knowles decisions for his staff. If he has someone else in mind, then that’s the way it is. I have a strong feeling Garner will be back.
If it comes down to keeping Garner or hiring Knowles, I keep Garner.

Disagree. Give me the top notch DC. Now if Garner was a little younger maybe. But let’s face it, he is getting older. I don’t want to see him go. But with a DC who is amongst the best at his job, we are in the playoffs this year. We had Garner with Banks and you see what happened.

IMO, Knowles keeps Garner.
