Thoughts on our first game?

I agree, would not be surprised if we see a swap at some point in the season tho. But that would be the extent of it.
I will say this, I think we will see a different Jon Crompton on the field this year...I think he will be solid and hopefully we won't have to swap....But I will say this, I hope to God if we do have to swap QB's because Crompton isn't getting the job done I hope he does it early in the season

I guess Im a "stick in the mud" for saying this, but JC will have to do something I have yet to see him do.

I hope he does well, and I will pull for whoever they pick. JC has been thru about everthing a kid can in his situation. Hopefully he can finish strong, and help start us in a new direction.

No that don't make you a stick in the mud, I want him to prove himself too, I just can't help but think the kid will want to prove that he's better than what he showed last year and I think he is one of the guys that has bought into Kiffin's system

Hope springs eternal until the first time JC sails one 12' over the head of his receiver. I swear I hope I am so wrong about the boy I will eat crow all year, but I just do not see anything from him. Perhaps the scars from last year’s offensive debacle have jaded my opinion of Crompton, but it is very hard to change the spots of a leopard. I just fell like he did not demonstrate proficiency at a single aspect of the game, not even the center-quarterback exchange. So I do not see how he can go from being awful to serviceable. He does not have what it takes upstairs so solving his problems is not about time or new and different coaching it can not be done.

He has his issues, but he also has one more chance to redeem himself. Come on Jon!

It'll be a good workout for our defense in prep for the Gator's WR's. Doesn't WKU run a spread option and a mobile QB?

People said similar things about Ainge after the '05 season, but in Cutcliffe's system, he broke Peyton Manning's single-season completion % record in '06. I'm willing to give Crompton another chance under Kiffin's system to turn it around.

That too. I was watching that game wanting to know why we weren't running the ball. We pushed them around when we did. But we also gave up a 2 possession lead late and IMO that's due to lack of focus. I agree with what you said though

clawson just had a terrible gameplan in that game from the get go. he never set crompton up with plays that could have at least established his confidence a little bit and got him into a rhythym....and he still had him drop back and throw the ball 40 times anyway. the preparation for that game couldn't have been worse, at least on offense. a pop warner coach would have been better off calling plays for us.

Crompton should get the benefit of the doubt because IMO he wasn't the only one that struggled mightily last year on the offensive side of the ball....The way I look at it is this....If Kiffin can say "hey guys, look last year was last year, let's forget about it and focus on the task at hand" I can do the same

Clawson's gameplan was asinine, but in his little defense, I don't think he was banking on Crompton playing so inept.

To be honest with you I think Clawson didn't know how to gameplan, the offense was so horrid in so many games last year he couldn't have known what he was doing...He was the worst play caller I have seen since Randy Sanders.....Yeah, let's throw a screen pass on 3rd down and half a mile, they won't be looking for that...People do that so much that most teams do look for stuff like that on 3rd and long

one of the reasons that crompton was probably inept as he appeared in that game was because of the gameplan. from what i remember, he hardly let crompton at least establish himself with short passes in the beginning. it also doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that we should have been running the ball 10x more than we did in that game. even when it was obvious the passing game wasn't working, he still had crompton throwing it.

Stephens gets 0 because I really believe Crompton will be surprisingly solid for us this year. Not awesome just solid (limited turnovers and a good facilitator of a simplified offense compared to last years'.)
based on what? a hunch? I'm just curious, why do you think that he will miraculously turn it around this year?

For that game, off tackle left, off tackle right, would have worked just fine. We could have won that game and never threw the first pass.

Other than myself, is there any other that would be upset if BB did not get at least 10 carries in the first game?:crossfingers::crossfingers:

We will impose our will on Western Kentucky and quite frankly, I feel sorry for them having to come into Neyland Stadium on opening day and Kiffin's coaching debut. They have absolutely no clue what will be unleashed upon them in about 3-1/2 months! They do not have anywhere near the athletes we do! They do not have anywhere near the coaching we do! They do not have anywhere near the motivation we do! We will come into that game ready to pound and maul! We will absolutely destroy this team! It will be like in the Roman times when the Christians were fed to the lions! We will run the ball down their throats! I predict that our offense will be very vanilla, yet very effective! By the end of the 3rd quarter they will be flat worn out and our 2nd team will be in there for the duration of the 4th!

I am predicting a one sided blow out to the tune of about 54-10!

I would rather us play a whole lot of young players and have a closer victory than just keep the 1st team in to boast a blowout.

If we get em blooded a little bit in that first game and then a bit more vs UCLA, and we might have some young talent ready to help us against Florida. Then sounds so obvious, but previous staff did not do it.

That's why I said our reserves will be mopping up in the 4th quarter. An entire quarter is a good deal amount of playing time for your 2nd string.
