Thoughts on our first game?

I fully expect Tennessee to win this game by 30+ points. 35-0, 40-6 somewhere in there, but thats counting 1 maybe 2 defensive or special teams tds.

Brown, I say we rush for 300-320yrds and Hardesty leads most of the way, but late in the 4th Brown breaks open for 80+yrds passing hardesty.

I think Williams because he will be a constant 2nd running back while Hardesty and Brown are switching back and forth

I'm thinking that as long as we score 30-35 points on them, we'll have Lee and Kirk talking about what we did and how it makes a statement.

WKU's defense is weak enough for us to rush for 400+ if we start breaking a few, or attempt 40+ rushes.

Rush yards allowed last year vs. I-A

Indiana - 297 - 7.2 YPC
Alabama - 281 - 5.7 YPC
Kentucky - 216 - 5.7 YPC
Virginia Tech - 151 - 3.0 YPC
Ball State - 200 - 5.0 YPC
Florida Atlantic - 225 - 5.1 YPC
North Texas - 173 - 6.0 YPC
Troy - 131 - 4.0 YPC
MTSU - 101 - 2.5 YPC
Florida International - 143 - 3.0 YPC

WKU lost 5 starters off that defense, including both CBs and their best LB...

I really think you can attack this defense effectively with any philosophy.

I am just curious to see what everyone thinks our offense will look like against Western Kentucky, knowing just what we do now. What is the run/pass ratio, rush yards, pass yards, and how many points do we lay on them? Do we come out trying to make a statement, even though it should be a much inferior opponent? Last is anyone else a little bit anxious about that first game? Considering the opponent anything less than a blowout would be a dissapointment in my eyes. :hi:

something about like 30-10... that depends on how many more losses of personal we face.

I think this will be a very conservative game as far as play calling. I don't look for the coaches to show any new wrinkles until the big games.

It will not be much of a game. Physical mismatch. We will prolly sputter some on O (passing game). Our D will be dominating. Hard to take much from this game, other than a W.

The next week will tell us where we stand for the first quarter of the season.

We start 2-0.

I agree we start out 2-0 and go into the Swamp with some confidence for a change

I think the greatness of our season hinges on the OL. IMO
I think we see the O staff take as much off the QB (whoever it is) as they can, by running the ball a LOT. Especially early in the season. This would mirror what Saban did last year with JPW. He did not rely, nor ask him to win games. He was there when they needed him, which was not very often.

That too. I was watching that game wanting to know why we weren't running the ball. We pushed them around when we did. But we also gave up a 2 possession lead late and IMO that's due to lack of focus. I agree with what you said though

You're correct, that does show a lack of focus from the defense, but I believe we could have prevented at least one of those those late scores by simply running the ball (and the clock), and we probably would have put more points on the board too.

There was no reason to not run the ball on them....Foster and Hardesty..Hardesty more than Foster was dominating their LB's and we were defintiely winning the battles up front in the run game...I don't like blaming players for losses but part of that loss goes to Daniel Lincoln, Crompton had actually put them in position late to win that game on a FG and he pushed it wide
