Thoughts on Memphis

Why's that? You said it didn't apply to them in this situation because they're the #1 team in the land so calling them "little brother" was insignificant.

The way I understood it was your were implying they shouldn't be called "little brother" or it was a dumb idea to call them that, in this situation atleast and only this one, because of their dominance in basketball right now.

That's about the size of it.

Hopefully I did not create "not another one of these again" threads...

I am currently at student at UT but I'm from Memphis and grew up a fan of both. I went to every University of Memphis game in football and some basketball games my whole life up through high school. Yes, I was deprived as a child.

I don't seem to understand the so called "rivalry" between the two schools. I consider myself a UT fan first and I still cheer for Memphis when they aren't playing us but most "Memphis fans" HATE UT. I assume it's because we always beat them...in everything...but once I got to Knoxville and in talking to people it's funny to me how UT fans from East Tennessee don't really even consider it that big of a rivalry or big deal with Memphis. They are like the little brother that we toss around when we're sick of hearing him whine about a lack of attention. I find it very funny because I don't know how many of yall are aware of this but there are a lot of people in Memphis that hate UT more than any other school in the country (as far as athletics).

I'm not sure exactly what the basketball record is when the two teams face each other but I'm pretty sure out of 40 games or so in football Memphis has won once (one of the worst days of my life...). I remember back around 2000 I think it was when Memphis played at UT and Memphis went out before the game and were stomping on the T at midfield...and then they got stomped...

And so I was bored this morning in a class of mine and was reading stuff on the Memphis message boards about UT and they all talk about how big of a deal the "rivalry" is and how much they hate UT and Bruce Pearl. They love to talk about his ugly orange blazer and how he won't wear it against them.

Just curious what yall think about Memphis and/or the so called "rivalry"? And please don't say a bunch of nonsense about we can't look ahead past Arkansas and Georgia and stuff, I completely agree and I'm concerned with our play in those games too but I'm simply asking what yall think of Memphis.

not considered a rivalry by me, this year it will be just another victory.. we have much bigger fish to fry than utk-

most important doesn't = rivalry.
Didn't ask about a rivalry! Could care less who you consider a rival. I was asking you about your idiotic statement that you had bigger fish to fry! The game between our two teams is simply THE biggest game either have left!

I could care less if a Memphis fan considers UT a rival!

Please read that sentence as many times as it takes to realize what you're saying. You are saying the opposite of what you mean.

Not sure what you take from it. My point was in reaction to his comment that they (memphis) had bigger fish to fry. Our mutual game is the biggest game left on the schedule for either team. He wanted to go back to the rivalry thing (which I care nothing about) and avoided my question what other game matters more? Not to be a prick but I just don't see where you are going with this.

And I'm not trying to be a prick either but just keep reading that sentence. You are trying to say that you COULD NOT care less, not that you COULD. That's all I was trying to get you to see. And the whole point of this thread that I started was to determine whether or not yall thought it was a rivalry. I'm pretty sure it's clear to everyone in the country that UT is Memphis's biggest game left this season...anyone that tried to argue that would be a complete idiot.

Rockytop572 Point taken. I was just trying to get clear from him if he was making the assertion that this was not their biggest game left!

Again....WHAT???? ECU and Memphis???? Memphis has a basketball tradition BETTER than UT. And don't give me the series records.......enough.

Lets go back to high school ACT'S:

1. UNC is to ECU as :
a) UT is to UK
b) UT is to Vandy
c) UT is to Alabama
d) UT is to UT Martin

Ans...... D!!!

That is a dumb comparison on your part!:boxing2:
Substitute d)Memphis and you still have the same answer....Memphis is not or never will be a rival of the University of Tennessee, at least not on our end

:hi: It is the most important game left on the schedule but not the most important left in the year ! :ermm:
