Thoughts on leaving Joey in so long?

Who cares about Joey's steak. He's done and gone. Yes, he played his rear off and I loved him all year. I was at the game and wanted to see the new qbs. Does he not think of the future? Joey is 24 years old, he should be able to deal with being benched and maybe could perform better next week in FL.

He’s had a good story and has done a lot for the TN Football, but we shouldn’t care about a personal record. Play for next year.

Maybe you should root for Bama because this is truly a dumb take. Did you forget the only reason we had to go to the portal in the summer is because Nico tried to hold us hostage?

This. In the Josh Heupel era he’s only had to look to the portal for a QB once and that was because of the Nico situation.

If the QBs he recruited to play in his system can’t figure it out after a year (and yes, less than one with GMac)….that sounds like a coaching problem and lack of play is definitely a factor in that.

Not necessarily - coaches take a chance on players out of high school. They may find after they get on campus and start practicing that the player is not ready to play or the player may just not be right for the offense.

You seem to think that any high school QB can come right in and be effective. Sure, lack of play may be an issue - but if you get the right player it isn't.

I agree with that some. What are the chances three players he recruited aren’t ready though?

The issue isn’t the streak. The issue is it took Heupel / Gameplan / Aguilar 50 minutes to get over 200 yards passing after 2 weeks to prep for a 3 win CUSA team.

Yes. He’s gone to the portal once for a qb. He inherited Hooker, Milton transferred in, he recruited Nico. He’s never had to scramble to the portal to get a QB until this year.
This post will be amusing when he does it again this year. Further proving his failure at picking and/or developing QBs (at his time at TN)

Agree it is strange - but his offense seems to take a specific type of QB. He probably feels he has to chase the stars instead of looking for that QB that could lead his offense.

I mean if he went after a 3* QB that he knew would be extremely effective verses a 5* QB that would not be effective - everyone would think he had lost his mind.

Lost his mind > he can’t coach

If a 5 star QB is interested, you have to try to land him. But Heupel most likely is gonna do the 1 year rental portal QB year after year. Nothing wrong with that but just more volatility as you have a different QB each season.

If the system is that complicated where four people can’t do well in it…

That’s really going to turn off a lot of QB recruits.

There would be threads on here complaining had he not let Joey keep his streak going.
Yeah, there's only a slight shift from the "the season's essentially over so play G-Mac for experience" and "the season's essentially over so let Joey go ahead and keep his streak going."
