Thoughts on GT and FSU in the SEC

Except you need a rule change at the overall level by the NCAA first to play semifinal games (plus conference championship).

The reason we were able to split into 2 divisions with a championship game after the 1992 expansion was because there was already a rule for it in the books (it was a rule that had really more written for Division 3 teams; Roy Kramer found out about it - and that it was applicable for the Division IA level - and took advantage of it...it some senses it was almost like someone finding a loophole)

Once the Big10(14), SEC(14), Pac12, and Big12(10) all have 16 teams the NCAA will acquiesce. The NCAA exists because the conferences allow it to. If the major conferences request a confrence semi-final, a conference semi-final we will have.

LOL.

So you get two auto-wins against Vandy and Ky and a pretty likely win against VT most years, whereas the Gators get Georgia and South Carolina every year?

You are out of your mind.

Exactly how many times has USC & UGA beaten Florida in the last 20yrs? Like 6 or 7 combined? Yeah, LOL at you.

The current 14-team setup sucks. I would've preferred we stayed at 12 but if the conference is going to expand 16 is much better.

UT, UK, Vandy, VT - North

UGA, UF, USC, NCST - East

Bama, Aub, MissSt, Miss - South

LSU, Arky, ATM, Mizzou - West

9-game conference schedule. You play the 3 teams in your pod and 2 from each of the other 3 pods. Simple!

think this general format is what you will see but not enough balance - needs to be 2 legit traditional teams in each pod

UT, UK, UGA, newbie - div 1

newbie, UF, USC, Vandy- div 2

Bama, Aub, MissSt, Mizzou- div 3

LSU, Miss, ATM, Arky- div 4

that would give at least 1 typically bottom feeder in each pod - 1 trad power in each pod - and 1 other really good team in each pod

I have always been under the impression, correctly or not, that opposition would come from the administrations at Florida, Georgia and South Carolina to the addition of schools in their respective states. Given the fact that this remains, first and foremost, a football conference, I would love to see FSU come aboard; it would add conference implications to their hotly contested rivalry with Florida.

FSU would add stature; football wise----that mizzou doesn't. IF FSU bolts, watch a mass exodus of ACC football powers----Clemson, VT, Miami to the SEC---or somewhere other than the acc---which will then absord the Big East and be strictly a BB league; minoring in FB.

But the moves were all dictated by TV markets.

Virginia is the next big move for the SEC. Might actually take both Virginia schools.

I don't want to see the traditional rivalries watered-down or, even worse, disappeared. If you corporatize college football like the NFL, you will absolutely destroy the product.

It's already been said, but GT and FSU probably have no shot. SEC already has those markets covered.

If any teams are added, it will be VT and probably NCSU, although there's some big hurdles to that one.

As we saw with this years expansion if they add teams it will be for additional T.V. revenue/markets as opposed to historically competitive teams.

With that said if we do expand I would expect to see a combination of UVA/VT and NCST/UNC.

Texas A&M and Missouri need to get kicked out of the SEC.....what in the heck is southeastern about those 2 teams in the first place.......if GT and FSU join the SEC then A&M and Missouri must go back where they came from.

Florida State already had their chance in 1992 when the conference expanded from 10 to 12. The first choices were Arkansas and Florida State, but FSU chose to join the ACC instead. So, we got South Carolina as an afterthought. I remember the shirts they printed up in Tallahassee at the time....."The SEC can kiss my ACC".

I have long expected to see a 16 team SEC. I'm not convinced that it is Ga Tech and/or FSU though. I would expect to see Clemson if it is 2 ACC schools. I would guess either FSU or Va Tech would be the 2nd ACC school. There is also a geographic "need" for a school in NC but breaking up tobacco road would be tough.

I could see this. It also wouldn't surprise me to see NCState.

Bring in any good team from another conference, as long as they have the huevos and don't expect to win as much as they are used to

Georgia tech will never be in the SEC again, not ever. period.

they where in it and spit on us and left. you can forget them.

As an alumnus of the Univ of Tennessee--I think the ideal choices are actually the Univ of North Carolina and the Univ of Virginia.

Let's face it, we don't need any more football schools, and those schools will enhance the academic reputation of the conference and region as a whole. These are world class universities that are state-flagships of Southeastern states.

To put it in perspective, our conference has the state flagship university of EVERY southeastern state except for Va and NC.
Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee...

And now we also have Missouri to go along with Florida and Kentucky.

Conference realignment has little to zero to do with academic reputations. That's mostly just lip service like student athlete’s can't handle more games for a playoff. If they don't bring football or basketball and a big market then you're not making the cut.

Big talk about conference expansion again with some of the moves already being set up in the last few days. I keep hearing that GT and FSU will be in the SEC before to long with the formation of super conferences because of the almighty $$$$. Personally, I'm not for it, yet it seems to be a speeding train. I'm sure if that happens it could be the nail in the coffin for the UT/Bama yearly rivalry as we know it. Anybody else care to weight in?

As far as I'm concerned GT should not ever be allowed back in the SEC...They were a part of it once and left to join the ACC...If We take 2 teams from the ACC I would prefer North Carolina and NCST...Both would be perfect additions and would rekindle an old rivalry with UNC for us.

Question before I get into an in-depth discussion about this with you---did you get a degree from the University of Tennessee? If not---where?

Heard it was FSU and Clemson not GT.
