While I agree finding the right head coach is of extreme importance, I believe there are several candidates out there that could be considered a good fit for our program. I think the thing that is of probably equal importance is, who will compromise the staff of the incoming coach. Will he surround himself with quality coaches that will get the most outta their players & put them in a position to succeed? I’m not so concerned if we hire someone w/ a proven track record as a HC or if we hire someone who is currently a coordinator provided they surround themselves w/ quality assistants. As we’ve seen recently, OC, DC & other assistants can make or break you.

Example:

1.) lets say the Vols hire Tee Martin to coach & he brings with him a staff full of Robert Gillespie quality assistants

Vs

2.) the Vols hire Gundy & he brings a staff consisting of assistants that are equivocal to his current defensive coordinator

In my eyes, scenario 1 has us in a far better position. It boils down to how proud is the head guy? Does he feel he has to be the smartest man in the room, that it’s his way or the highway? Or is he wise enough to say hey, there are others out there who know more about particular position work than I do & I wasn’t their knowledge & expertise in this program.

Just food for thought... not endorsing one candidate or another; simply something that’s been on my mind for a few weeks now.

I honestly don't think it'll take much. I think a lot of games in the fall are actually won in the summer and during camp. Strength and conditioning. Tackling. Blocking.

Aint' rocket science. Someone posted the '86 Sugar bowl last night. I watched it. Amazing to see running backs getting hit and falling backwards, Sacks, pressure on the QB, Blockers pulling and hitting their assignments.

True coaching. Team 121 was as sloppy. I have a feeling that the guys on the team that will be back next year are going to have a rude awakening when a real coach and coaching staff get a hold of them and make them work and be accountable for how they play, behave off the field.

I just wonder what Neyland would have done Saturday watching the team playing half a$$ed? Ship would probably hit the sand.

I agree fully... this entire season I’ve witnessed some of the most uninspired, pathetic excuse for football I’ve ever seen! This team didn’t seem like a team didn’t see guys up supporting the guys playing the other side of the ball, saw a lot more in fighting than ever... hopefully the “family” mentality & supporting & having family’s back can be re-instilled by the next guy.
