Now if he would just take responsibility for the fact that our offense is not on the same page.

I'm sure Fulmer was not happy with him conceding this on Saturday.... Fulmer probably pulled him aside later and was like " Look, next time, just tell them we gotta watch the tape, kid "

I respect Clawson a lot. If you break down our offensive gameplan you will see that it was very sound. Think about how Clawson's offense would have looked with Ainge or even Rick Clausen running it. I think he called a great game. Unfortunately, his QB makes him look terrible. At this point, I don't even blame Clawson for the UCLA game because he apparently knew that he had to get JC every pass attempt that he could. How pathetic is it that true freshman come in and play better football every year?

That's a nice change, to actually take responsibility for how his players play in a game. Normally CPF has to review the tape, blah, blah, blah.

I think the worst thing is these problems are all problems that showed up in the Spring and Summer.

The mis-read, telegraphing, fumbles, etc. This is all stuff that should have been addressed... especially with a RS Junior.

This is the key part of your post. If Crompton hasn't learned key fundamentals by now then I'm afraid he never will. I will be more critical of Clawson if he continues to play a QB who looks like he's never going to get it.

These are just excuses, all of these problems should have been addressed this spring. Here we are beginning the meat of our season and these are still problems. Fix the problems, hell bench players who aren't getting it done and see what the others will give you. It can't hurt at this point can it?

CPF took the blame for the game as soon as he was interviewed after the game. That was one of the first things out of his mouth. It was something akin to "That was not us, we're better than that. This is on me I'm a big boy with broad shoulders and this is on me".

I agree. But Clawson is also saying this is on me and not just Crompton. Mistakes should have been fixed in the spring but this coaching staff obviously missed some things.

How many times have we heard this in the last eight years?

He might as well have not even said anything. That has no substance. "That's not us... we were uptight... we were something... that wasn't us" It's like blaming the refs for calling errors your team makes.

Why is Clawson taking the blame?...HE didn't hand the damn ball off and fumble it!...He's just covering his QB's tail is all and quite commendable but Crompton should take 100% of the blame for that one.

Who coaches Crompton on how to hand the ball off?

It's like the difference between a good boss and a crappy one. Yeah, a boss isn't technically responsible for an employee having a meltdown... but a good boss with still take onus for it, and try to help the employee out... while a bad boss will start pointing fingers to deflect blame off of himself.

Clawson needs to pack up and head back to Richmond. UT needs a big time OC that understands the game at this level.

If Crompton is making these mistakes at this point... how much could you rationally expect Clawson to have been able to accomplish in 6 months time? He needs to apparently go back 6 years.

It's not like he just needs to polish the silverware to make it look good... he's got to make it from the ground up.

It's nice he steps up. But I don't think he is the problem at all. Our problem is not play selection, although it contributed a lot to the UCLA loss. Our problem is an overall lack of disipline and leadership which I would argue reflects more on the head coach than it does a first year OC.

Consider that we had drives early in the game of 79 and 64 yards. Only to have both pissed away by Cromptons inept play. Throw in the Hardesty fumble, the personal fouls and the fact that we have the worst special teams in the league and you're done. The length of the drives gives me hope that there was a good game plan. But the rest points toward uninspired and sloppy preparation.

If Clawson takes the fall for Fulmers problems I'll be pissed.

I had such high hopes for Clawson when we hired him. I hope he can turn our offense around soon.

Dude, He should have learned that in peewee ball!...If he needs coaching at how to hand off the ball then We are in deeper than We ever believed We were!

I got that. But the coaches obviously missed him doing it wrong over and over and over. I'm not defending Crompton but the coaches own part of the blame too.
