Thoughts on Butch thinking SC was just one game

What do you want him to say?

"This game was everything and now our season is over"

If you ever wonder why coaches never say anything insightful or revealing at press conferences, this thread is why.

I've said it before, and I truly believe it....Butch does not understand the importance of every game in the SEC. He can't, he's not from this football culture. Championships hinge on every game in this conference, so does pride. We weigh our all-time winning percentages against other teams. We derive our pecking order from our histories like no other conference. I've watched our standing as a Blue-blood in this conference wain over the last decade, and it sickens me to see what we've lost. This is one concept Butch does not get...they all matter.

It's truly sad

Butch is too stubborn to realize that his offense for 4 years has been the problem. It's not just the South Carolina game.

I can promise you that Butch is alarmed right now and that this SC game has his attention. He probably sees his future at stake and that will lead to some necessary changes.

But, they will have to come after the season ends.

I wish the SC game had his attention last week

If Butch can't get it done in year 4 in the worst division in college football, when is he going to get it done? Florida is mediocre, Georgia is bad, and the rest of the division is a joke.

I don't expect to beat #1 Bama, but I expect it to not be a slaughter.

I didn't even necessarily get too upset about losing to #6 A&M on the road

But losing to a bottom-of-the-division South Carolina in their rebuild year after we come off a bye week is completely 100% inexcusable.

Butch is a serviceable coach and a decent recruiter, and I commend him for righting the ship after Dooley. No one wanted to take this job, and he stepped up and created some stability

But Butch Jones is not going to get us to the promised land. He is not going to get us double digit wins. He is a 8 or 9 win coach in the worst division in college football. It's time to see the writing on the wall.

His hires have been largely suspect. His refusal to change the offensive scheme is troubling. His misuse of players like Hurd and his inability to recruit another qb or replace Dobbs is mind-boggling

Delay the $100 million Neyland renovation and put some of that money to getting a great coach at $6-8 million a year

Otherwise, we're going to remain #3 or 4 in the SEC East

Thank you to Butch for taking us out of the abyss but I don't want to watch the Vols play in the Outback Bowl for the next 2 years only to fall to 6-6 then 5-7 then start a complete rebuild in 4 years. Let's deal with this now rather than repeating the last 4 years of Fulmer

If it's confirmed that the team held a players-only meeting and both Hurd and Kongbo left, that shows this isn't just a 1 game issue but something larger brewing. It just looked like the offense didn't even want to be out there. It truly reminded me of our Dooley team in the Kentucky game that broke our streak. There were some defensive players who were truly busting their butts. Other than Jennings, Kelly, and maybe 1 or 2 other people, didn't see a lot of fire on the O

Fire Jones and open up the check book and get an elite coach! That 106 million dollars on renovations can wait. We will always be playing catch up with 2nd and 3rd tier coaches. I'm done with this coaching staff. After all what has happened this year and the latest news I think it's time to fire Jones before it gets worse. We are fortunate to be even 5-3 right now. This coaching staff is a complete joke and Jones snake oil sales pitch clichés have rubbed off. #FireJones

You may be a Manning fan, but you don’t sound like a Tennessee fan. The renovations are needed regardless of who is coaching the team. Also, I don’t care if you are done with the team or not. Good riddance !

It is concerning that this team has been behind at the end of the first half in every game. There is no good reason to have lost to SC. Assuming 9-3 at the end of the season. It would still be better than last year's record and far better than when butcher first got here. Not saying that will definitely happen. It may not. If it does however . I think people won't be as upset about this game . They may in fact view it in hindsight as just being one game
