What’s the consensus on Pruitt? I’ve heard positives and negatives. Kirby had a rough first year and he had depth. UT has a decent starting 22, but not much after that.

JG showed up. Showed a lot more poise this game, in spite of the thin O-line. A couple of your RBs were tough. Jordan wants to play tackle football.

D looks porous. Pruitt just doesn’t have his kind of players on the field to execute. Having to throw those young kids in vs an explosive O like WV’s is a tough position to be in.

This is probably going to be a very trying season for the VolNation. But you have to give Pruitt some time to learn the job and implement his system. There’s not a coach in this country that could have taken UT’s players and beat WV last Sat.

We need a larger body of work. Right now everyone is still reacting with emotion instead of logic.

Kirby had a team that went 10-3 the year before he got there. Pruitt has a team that went 4-8. You are right on your assumption that it takes time to learn to be a head football coach.

Anyone on VolNation who thinks that Pruitt is a miracle worker and believed this team would look like BAMA is a fool. It's gonna take time, which does in fact irritate me (to no end) because I'm tired of the "re-build" that keeps happening. Facts are that Butch was a used-car salesman and put the Vols in a hole. I believe that Pruitt is the guy to dig them out.

Who can say at this point. There was some good and a bunch of bad. Short of a drastic turnaround or meltdown, I doubt we will really know this year. Hopefully we'll see some improvement as the year goes on. That's all we can really look for this year anyway.

Like was said, we MAY have a good starting 22, but it drops off after that (other than maybe RB and WR).
Knew it would be a rough season and it will be. It will take the whole season to be able to tell if we are actually developing into a team, or just maintaining the mess.

Not concerned about this season. We would have all liked to see improvements in some areas that didn't happen but we've got a QB so I'm content to wait for things to gel. Pruitt will be fine, he's doing a good job IMO.

The problem is that we were beaten by 26 points, NOT that we lost. Very disappointing that we couldn't stay within shouting distance. The frustration is that there is not much evidence that our D has improved one iota, even with what "elite" defensive coaches we presumably have. We did not have 22 excellent players out there. Our "elite" 4 and 5 * defensive players are only good at best. As some have said on another thread, we have at best 1 or 2 players on defense that would be on Alabama's 2 deep roster. This includes Taylor, Kongbo, Bituli, Kirkland, Warrior, Kelly, etc.

Not sure if there is a consensus. I think Florida game will be best marker for the season. I think if he can correct some errors over the 2 cupcakes and get a win in FL, he can keep the team mentally there during the pounding the team gets over the next 3 games. I think we will be too depleted to take ScarJr but if he can keep drilling them, I think by the last 4 games we could be gelling better and have some decent outcome.
He is going to need the year to get his Defense and for Helton to get the Offense trained. Pruitt will also help himself with recruiting fresh meat that wasnt spoiled by Butch. JJP could be a surprise killer by year end.

6-6 is what I expected, still do. I'm good although still got a little bad taste leftover from Sat. and not seeing enough "fire" in the team.
Yeah, I expected them to come out pumped up. They looked drained from the get go minus a few

I don't know if there's a single person on this board who thought we would look like Bama this year.

Easy for you to say that, your dawgs are sitting pretty while we continue to decline year to year.

The offense doesnt have as far to go as I originally thought. I was very encouraged with JGs performance. He showed why there is no question Pruitt went with him as the starter. We are set at RB and WR. The OL still has a way to go, but when they settled in they started playing better.

On D, our secondary is green and with no depth. Taylor and Flowers I think will end up being good players but they're just young. Warrior needs to get better, didnt think he played well. I cannot believe how bad Osburne is. He was a top 100 player and top 10 DB coming out of HS, and he is just straight up terrible. Thought the LB play was pretty bad as well. That group has to play better. DL was good at times but has a way to go too. The DL and LBs have to play well to help this secondary out, that's all there is to it.

The UF game will tell the tale on this season, whether it will be 7-5, 8-4, or 5-7. JmO

Nice post UGA fan. It's easier for an outsider to be accurate than us fans when the emotions are still there. I believe that Pruitt inherited a significantly worse situation that CKS. That being said, Kirby has definitely moved the program up a notch. While most here believe Pruitt is currently doing the same, the jury is definitely out until actual wins come in.

I'm in the McDad camp above. Also, if we can win our 3 patsies, and 4 of UK, VU, UM, USC, & UF, I'll consider this a successful season. Win only 3 of those and we have nothing to show for the changeover. Win 2 or less of those then we have to question our new hire IMO.
