Thoughts from this Gator

I'd say a 99.9% chance he wasn't coming here if Kiffin had remained. I think taking a good player in a position of need, while recruiting against Nick Saban in three weeks..

That at least borders on amazing

Not saying you can base his entire coaching career on this event, but I'm impressed for now.

Just helps my case on Stone. Kiffin leaving evidently cleared away his biggest problem with UT.

I said it was good. I forget, it is irrational to call into question or take an honest view of what our football does. As always, whoever he is, he is awesome.

You say honest, we say incorrect. What, you think every recruiting service that was talking about what a great job Dooley did is just lying? All of us dishonest folks talking on the internet and here you come to save us. Yayy. If you think it's good, but someone else calls it awesome, why would you argue?

dont waste your time. he is just wanting to be negative. next.

This is laughable. I said he did a GOOD job. You people amaze me. Some of you flip out if everyone isn't flipping out about how great the head coach is.

Not at all. Just give credit where credit is due.

You can look back over my posts any time. I have consistently said that Dooley was a high risk hire. He'll either be a homerun for Hamilton or the flop that ends his career.

However what he did with this class with less than half a staff, moles and possible saboteurs left behind by Kiffin, and only 2-3 weeks to work with... is pretty amazing.

You think cause he's in-state that means something? Why don't we get all the Memphis kids then?

Ummm...I think since his choices were down to his home state school and another school, yes being in state helped. I doubt all the Memphis kids put UT in their top 2.

Saying he did a good job is giving credit. I believe Kiffin had about 4-5 more days than did Dooley.

Amazing regardless. Thanks gator guy!............Our class, Floridas or anyone elses is just what it is on paper. Any of these kids could wash out, be a rising star or just mediocre. Think....we have been a sub par team, and reeled in 8th-15th (depending on who is ranking) best class. That puts us in the top % and all should be happy and hopeful many of these kids pan out. Really don't know where people get the expectation that any 5
* we target should come straight to Knoxville and we get the #1 class every year. Coaches got who they could, where they could and addressed what they feel they needed. Thinking is, that is why they get the big bucks, not some yahoo on volnation that says we did "ok" cuz we didn't get a DT that they think is our most glaring need. Did better than 92% of the other schools out there, doubt you could of done it any better

He is and he did. That said, he is an in state kid that probably wanted to come here to begin with.

Hey Negative Nancy, you don't have to be the Devils's Advocate to every response. It's a great time. New coach, successful class etc. Go do something that you enjoy besides aggrevating everyone here and bringing us down because you don't have a life.

Kiffin bled some great players from that USC class. He leveraged relationships he'd developed at UT to bring kids in that liked USC already. He took basically a full staff with him.

You are arguing just to be arguing if you are trying to say that DD's task wasn't far more difficult than Kiffin's.

I can't compete with your brilliance.

considering our record the past few years and 2 top 10 classes still.I call that a very good job,but it can not continue very many more years if we don't get back to continting for SECC's.

Yep, "good job" is synonymous with negativity.

A good job in his situation would have been if he'd just stopped the bleeding and minimized the losses.

He pulled the best player in GA and third best player in VA in less than two weeks.

I don't know if he can coach. I don't even know if this is a momentary blip in recruiting for him with him being completely outclassed for the rest of his UT tenure.

But in this particular situation... he did an amazing job.

Yes, Dooley's job had more difficulty in it in a lot of ways. Going from UT to USC is much easier than going from LaTech to UT as far as being able to continue draw on top recruits you were already recruiting. That said, he also had some help, in 6 4* kids already on campus, I believe. Not arguing just to argue, I don't see greatness.

Exactly, rankings are for show and something to talk about. We won't know how these kids pan out until 2-3 years from now. You guys recruited to your needs, though which will more than likely help a ton in the longrun. Look at USCw or FSU. They recruited some flashy skill players, but not to their needs for their team. FSU has no dline or oline so all these rb's they've recently signed won't have anywhere to run. This is the main reason why our classes will be successful.

BTW, did you hear his comments concerning Crump? Crump and Sapp can tell us alot about DD's ability to evaluate talent. If one or both pan out then UT has found a good one.

8 of them were already in school. It was a good job, I wouldn't go amazing.

I'm pretty sure they could have gotten a waiver and left. At one point I remember hearing that. He kept them here and deserves credit for that

You believe it is unrealistic Stone wanted to come here in the first place?

Copeland did walk. So did Ambles. He did a good job, not amazing.

Considering he had a whole two and a half weeks and all of his competition had at minimum a measly year to recruit these kids, I do believe he did an amazing job. :good!::clapping:

They could have left but it would have cost them some time if I am correct. You people act like UT is some sh*thole that it is impossible to recruit to.

Uh, no we're not. UT is one of the top universities in the Southeast and in the upper echelon when it comes to athletics/facilities. It's hard to build relationships with kids and convince them to sign in 19 days though.
