This year was going to be tough regardless

Is he looking for system guys? Or is he looking for the highest ranked guys? Any idea?
I don't think it's an "or" situation. Every coach wants guys that fit their system but of course they want the most talented guys that fit their system.
We'll land some very highly ranked guys, will intentionally take a few under-the-radar guys.
And finally, they'll be spots where we just settle because we have some good recruiters but we just can't sell what Bama and Ohio State etc. are selling. I hate the last part but it's where we are at the moment.

Except for that part where Currie flew across the country, met with him, and was called back by Bev/Fulmer. Oh, and the text messages from Leach's agent to UT admin where Leach's agent said he feels like they reached a deal for Leach to be our coach. You're right, none of that sounds like he was a candidate.

Leach and Brohm both agreed to the job, both were nixed by the UT bumbling fools committee.
This may be true, but I gaurunteee one thing.
If we hired either one and Pruit was still at Bama, they still would of stomped the dog s**t out of us, and you same ones would be saying
We should of got Mullen, Gruden, etc. etc.etc

With regard to the last part, how do we ever beat UGA and Bama if we're all running the same stuff but they're doing it with better talent? It seems like it would be smarter to try and run something different that might crack their schemes.

Im afraid the Vols are in a very deep hole and just can't seem to stop digging.

Next year will be better, if you believe in Ailens, fortunately I not only believe in Ailens, but believe they been comming here for a very long time.
Go Vols

I'm really pulling for Pruitt to be the right guy to lead the team back to some degree of prominence. Outside the Auburn game it's been an enormously frustrating season. Tonight is a wonderful example of that.

Meanwhile Mike Leach, a proven head coach who agreed to take the job before Fulmer nixed the deal just won another huge game to improve to 7-1. Hope Fulmer knew what he was doing.

A question for you..

How long has Leach had to develop his program?

I'll hang up and listen..

New head coach
New offense and defensive scheme
Hardest schedule in the FBS
no depth
Complete culture change from previous staff

With that said, it’s a tough loss but I like Pruitt and the way he has our guys fighting. He’s still learning to be a head coach. I think we see this team take a giant step forward next year
Reality..... I like it.... I like it a lot

I guess it depends on what is a giant step forward. Does anyone expect us to be where Texas is in Herman's second year? Herman had head coaching experience coming in but Texas had 4 losing seasons in a row before Herman arrived. What's reasonable next year?

We need to beat an SEC team at home. We need to beat Vandy. We should beat Charlotte that gives us a bowl game.

Never thought I’d see the day that Tennessee football became the dove of CFB, but here we are asking ourselves, OMG when will it ever end?
It makes me sick to see my beloved Vols looking up to almost every single team in the SEC........it sucks, we now know what Kentucky and Vandy fans used to feel like
They been used to it forever. Total shock for Vols.

JG is 4-11 as a starting QB (1-10 vs SEC). It’s a team effort, but that’s a horrible stat that looks like it will only get worse unless there’s a dramatic turnaround
Worst record of any UT QB in history......I believe. Or that I could find.

7-5 sounds about. Playing bama and auburn next year is gonna be painful. I think Georgia takes a step back. They lose a ton, not to mention some coaches!

8-4 is possible if we can beat Florida at home. Guarantee we will beat Kentucky, Vandy and Missouri next year.

I think the best case we could have hoped for right now is 4-4. Worst case would be 2-6.

So, we are right in the middle at 3-5, which I think most would have found reasonable at the beginning of the season.

The downside for me, and I’m sure many others, is that we let that game slip away. And it would have really set up the rest of the season and boosted everybody’s confidence in the HC and the program. Not a reason to fire anyone, by still tired of being disappointed.

We better beat Charlotte. They beat Old Dominion who beat VIrginia Tech. So we are not good enough to just show up, it would be cataclysmic here on Volnation.

Do we get to play 1 ranked team through 8 games?
