I've just been bummed out about the game. We battled Georgia toe to toe for 58 minutes. We had the ball with 3 timeouts around midfield 2 minutes to go. Our offense looked like it was getting more push on the D line and our wide receivers had been getting open all day. Kirby had melted down into an incoherent wild man jumping and screaming on the sideline. WE HAD THEM!

I just knew we were going to score a touchdown...then coach decided to play for a long field goal.😒. I don't know why. WHY! The field goal was the BACKUP plan if we didn't score a touchdown. We could always have kicked it with about a 60-40 chance, but why not just seal the deal? Score and take their glory.

Coach, I am so glad you are here. You've done a tremendous job bringing the program back and you deserve credit, but that last 2 minutes hurt a LOT. In the future, show a little more confidence in the team. Give them a chance to get the job done. This is the BIG one that got away. All we can do now is suck it up and move on (and learn to never pull the horns in again).

Cause he coached not to lose instead of going for the win in that moment and it cost us a monumental victory. Look we were underdogs at home where we rarely lose so you go for the jugular there when you get the fumble on their side of the field with under 9 minutes to play. We score a TD there and go up 42-30 then we win the game. But still Heup turtled up again on the last drive of the game not getting closer to help our kicker. He mismanaged the situation and let Gilbert overthink the moment ahd he choked. Yes it was a make able kick not a chip shot but still any decent SEC kicker can make it from that distance.

The team was dialed in, just very clearly missing key pieces on defense. Those guys playing for the injured starters will need to grow up in a hurry and, who knows, maybe they started that Saturday? This team has the '22 feel to it to me: Fun offense and a shaky D that can be better if they can just get healthy.

because both drives we started w/ penalties. We needed to run for 1st downs and milk the clock for the game winner. We just didn't execute.

I don’t like the whole second guessing thing, but Joey Swags played his @$$ off and deserved an opportunity to go win that game.
I would’ve put the ball in his hands.

The kicker lost the game period
Nope. 1 play does not win or lose a football game. If we execute better down the stretch, on offense AND defense, we wouldn't have needed to kick a game winning FG.

I have a bigger issue with not going for the jugular after the strip sack and instead just running 3 straight times. THAT was when we should have finished them off.

On the last series before the missed kick I would have thrown at least once. Maybe a bootleg RPO, not try to force anything but would have gave us some options. They may have been in 2 deep safety but they were geared to stop the run. But we should have still won, O-line can’t make silly mistakes down there either. We will learn from this. GBO

At the end of the day if the kicker makes the field goal no one is complaining about coaching. The kicker lost the game period
Well, 4th and 6 touchdown and 2 pt conversion got us beat. You stop either of those plays , the kick wouldn't have to happen. Thanks Tim Banks

I think Heupel played it correctly. Georgia still had their 3 timeouts. We were trying to get them to burn their timeouts and leave no time on the clock for a game winning kick. With a throw you can make an incompletion or sack or holding call. Once you made it into game winning FG range, you try to lightly improve your odds of the kick. And we did that. We initially were set up to have a 38 yard kick, which anything under 40 yards is almost automatic for kickers these days. Gilbert was 11-12 all time when kicking 30-39 yards previously.

The false start was a matter of poor execution. I only wish we would have ran one more play, but I understand not..it just seemed like we panicked and ran the FG team out there on 3rd down.

Last year he leaned on his defense. This year he’s gonna have to lean on his offense. The false starts spooked him, one after the fumble then the one before the missed FG. Got to cut those out. Totally inexcusable. Those are drive killers. We will be in that situation again. The defense is going to struggle all season.

Exactly right. A kicker lives on routine and rhythm, and running that extra play to center the ball, then calling a time out and sending the FG unit out in proper rhythm would IMO have made the difference. Josh panicked and sent them out when the plan was to get the ball centered and then a TO, and the whole thing was rushed.

Putting this loss on Max is so knee-jerk and easy though, so it isn't surprising to see it.

The clock management wasn’t perfect but playing for a GW FG from less than 40 yards is the correct game management. The 5 yard false start, then the shank, can’t be blamed on the coaches. Throw a touchdown with 20+ seconds left doesn’t guarantee a victory either.

We are a very good team this year. If we get Hobbs, Moi, and McCoy back we should run the table after Alabama… which may be enough.
