But who are the teams you would consider to be better than Tennessee during the '07-'08 season. Not where they will be ranked, but who will be better. I would think the list would be fairly short.

Basketball.

I imagine the football list would be a lot longer. (if you disagree with my assumption, please don't debate that in this thread)

It's way too early to tell without knowing who is going to declare early for the NBA. If Lofton goes pro, then a ton of teams will be as good as or better than UT next year. Even if Lofton doesn't go pro, then I still see UT being somewhere between 10th and 18th in the nation.

I originally thought your post was regarding football. I had begun work compiling the massive list when I saw that your post was actually for basketball.

If Lofton stays, we should be one of the 10 best teams. I am not smart enough to give much reasonable info on this though.

I disagree. UT relies WAY too much on the 3-pointer and the press. They have very little inside presence. If they're not hitting the 3-pointer, then they can't apply full court pressure. They also don't get to the free throw line often due to their reliance on outside shooting, and when they do, they are atrocious at the free throw line.

You guys view this team much different than most people around the nation. UT's team is on the rise, but it's still only a mid-tier program. It's going to take longer than you guys think to become one of the elite programs.

I would like to add I know it is too early to be sure, but I just want more of an opinion.

Present-day college basketball requires a team to have a strong inside presence in order to be successful, and until tennessee does that i am not convinced they are a consistent top 10 team next year...

yea but thats what makes UT one of the better teams now is because we are very effective at what we do, we have on of if not the top 3 point shooters in the nation, and then we have 3 or 4 other guys who can knock the 3 down

Some of you keep forgetting we had the youngest big men in college basketball this year. Our top two were freshmen, the other one was a sophmore.. You saw flashes of what Wayne and Duke can be like, now they'll be playing side by side as they improve in the offseason. Most of the best big men in the confrence leave this year.(Horford,Noah,Morris,Davidson, and Davis) Alot of the elite bigs across the country will leave early as well. Cameron Tatum will be a significant contributor as a freshmen next season. Vol423, I'll put down 1,500$ they'll be ranked in the top 10 for the majority of the year.(AP poll) Let's put your money where your mouth is..

My biggest issue with the thing about winning a championship (or final four) is when you play the style we play you can beat anybody but you can also lose to just about anybody.

He's just mad because he hopped off the bandwagon and we are relevant now.
I'm not so sure he was ever on the UT basketball bandwagon. By all accounts, he's a UNC basketball/UT football fan. Every post he's made about UT basketball in the past year and a half has been about how the Vols aren't that good or how they're vastly overrated.

UT will open around 15 next year in bball.

UT will open around 15 next year in fball.

Both teams will finish the season better than the opening guess-work rankings.

Next year we could be anywhere from 7th to 18th. It just depends on who all goes pro for the teams in front of us. It's also depends on how much improvement our freshman make which I think will be alot.

We aren't going to be the 18th best team in the country.

I don't mean preseason rank, I mean how many teams going into next season are better than us?

If everyone from Kansas stays they are better than us, Ohio State will be better than us, North Carolina will be better than us, and UCLA, Memphis, and maybe Texas if they keep everyone.
