I really think the more the team is around the new staff the more they realize how bad the old staff was. Also I think they are realizing more and more that the current staff can get them into the NFL and can get them championships.

I think they realize to get to the promised land they need to be coached by a COACH not a FATHER-FIGURE.

Good point. I don't think anyone denies that Fulmer was a good man but he wasn't getting paid 3 mil a year to be a father figure. If that is what he wanted to do he should have spent all his time in the Big Brothers of America. He was getting paid to win football games.

It's crazy to think how good Eric Berry can be if he's accomplished all he's accomplished without the benefit of proper coaching

Talk is talk. Trophy's aren't given out to who wins practice. We won spring and fall camp last year remember. I'm from missouri, some me something.

At different times during the Fulmer era, we've had some terrible position coaches. Fulmer was so loyal to his coaches that he wouldn't pull the plug on the bad ones. When he replaced Majors, HE was the new gun in town. I think CPF was an OK head coach, and was a better O line coach. If, down through the years, we had much better position coaches, you would have seen better teams. Plus, as some on here have stated, he was too loyal to his upperclassmen.....regardless!

Kiffin may be impressing some of you with his attitude, but the fact remains, he's not even half the story-teller that Fulmer is.

i will agree with you on this one. I think fulmers biggest mistake was being complacent with the staff he had. when i think about the staff we have now, and look back at the old one... it blows my mind. fulmer just had all the loyal guys that werent going anywhere, now we have guys that other schools and nfl teams are going to want.

And that is just it. We didn't exactly have other programs trying to lure our position coaches away every year. That should be a lesson learned for our program, fans and staff alike. People don't try and hire people away from their job if they are not the best at what they do. I myself don't think it will be long untill people start trying to steal our current staff members away from us.

Lyrics George Michael - Father Figure Click to view
That's all I wanted
Something special, something sacred
In your eyes
For just one moment
To be bold and naked
At your side
Sometimes I think that you'll never
Understand me
Maybe this time is forever
Say it can be
That's all you wanted
Something special, someone sacred
In your life
Just for one moment
To be warm and naked
At my side

Sometimes I think that you'll never
Understand me
But something tells me together
We'd be happy
(Baby)
I will be your father figure
(Oh baby)
Put your tiny hand in mine
(I'd love to)
I will be your preacher teacher
(Be your daddy)
Anything you have in mind
(It would make me)
I will be your father figure
(Very happy)
I have had enough of crime
(Please let me)
I will be the one who loves you
Until the end of time

That's all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken
For a crime
That's all I wanted
Just to see my baby's
Blue eyed shine
This time I think that my lover
Understands me
If we have faith in each other
Then we can be strong
I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
I will be your preacher teacher
Anything you have in mind
I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
I will be the one who loves you
Until the end of time

If you are the desert
I'll be the sea
If you ever hunger
Hunger for me
Whatever you ask for
That's what I'll be
So when you remember the ones who have lied
Who said that they cared
But then laughed as you cried
Beautiful Darling
Don't think of me

Because all I ever wanted
It's in your eyes baby, baby
And love can't lie, no...
(Greet me with the eyes of a child)
My love is always tell me to...
(Heaven is a kiss and a smile)
Just hold on, hold on
I won't let you go, my baby
I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
I will be your preacher teacher
Anything you have in mind
I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
(So I am gonna love you)
Until the end of time
I will be your father
I will be your preacher
I will be your daddy
I will be the one who loves you until the end of time

Perhaps you're correct that the old staff was bad. I don't know because I wasn't around them and was not privy to their style and knowledge. Since all any of us can do is speculate I would speculate that they got complacent after being there so long. When Fulmer first took over for Majors....as with any situation like that it was all fresh and new. It's like marriage. How many of us married guys acted like some dude muscularly running down the beach with a rose between our teeth when we first got married? Now, we sit on the couch and bark out....."dead soldier...hurry up and bring me another."

( uuhhhemmm...don't allow me to imply, however, that such a thing is bad )

But when the wife decides the new neighbor is more appealing don't cry too much because you forgot about your first love.

So goes Fulmer. Oh, I never took him to be the "guru" of college football stategy, but I think he simply got a bit too comfortable through the years and allowed the program to slip and also become too comfortable.

In such a competitive climate you have NO time to get comfortable.

"What have you done for me lately.....like today" is the battle cry of today's big time atheletics.

Crap, what am I saying, that's the battle cry in little time athletics.
