Wanted to see what people thought here.

"Most of you guys aren't going to agree with what I am about to say but here it goes. I really feel Hart should give Dooley a one year contract extension.

Nothing is really going to change in his contract if we don't produce this year he would still have the same buyout etc.... but it gives the perception that he is doing a good job and has our program headed in the right direction, that way in this coaching search and recruiting the excuse of him being on unstable ground can't be brought up and if it is he can point to that.

Just thought I would throw that out there, I am sure I will be called everything from stupid to an idiot if not worse because people can't see the big picture, but whatever."

I kinda have to agree with him. Thoughts?

I see the merit of the idea, but it seems like posturing. Besides, anybody with any sense knows Dooley is guaranteed another year, two if we have a decent(around 8 wins) season or better.

I agree, but i think it could help if some of the candidates are worried that Dooley is gone in a year.

That would be an empthy gesture that most everyone would see right through. Everyone knows he has to produce this year, or else he's gone. There is no way to mask that.

Smoke and mirrors, terrible idea people aren't stupid. If hart does that then everyone will think he's an idiot.

Didn't he sign a 5 year deal? He still has 3 left. Anybody that has watched football knows that schools will find the money for a buyout if needed. So the extension is really just to keep the coach happy. At this point, he shouldn't be happy.

Nobody will see through that shallow attempt to make things appear better than they are - will they?

I get the point he is trying to make, but it would immediately be seen through as disingenuous posturing.

I actually really like your logic and for thinking "outside the box" but there is one fatal flaw. The product on the field is questionable, and your idea would only serve to create unintended ripples. No one can hide a 5-7 record this year from the outside world especially with the coverage that the UT loss to KY received. Regardless for the reason for that (bad coaching, young team, whatever) it could still obvious to the outside world that there are "issues". I think extending his contract this year would only serve to actually further diminish the reputation of an institution that has already potentially made some questionable coaching decisions. In summary, it might have the inverse effect. Those are just my two cents...

I didn't make the statement, a very good poster did however. It got a lot of support there, just wanted to see how the reaction went here. So far, exactly what I expected. Now just waiting for a stupid comment from DJ, and it will be complete. :)

It's already past that. We gave Fulmer contract extensions for 8 win seasons. So now we're giving them out for having back to back losing seasons? I'd hope not. Part of the reason they're in this mess. Settling for medicority and now apparently losing is ok too..

I have to agree. It would be all smoke and mirrors at that point. Anyone who is coming into this situation should know what they are getting into, and if they care enough and want to be here, then they will take it. I know that is what is so hard to find, but why hire someone with tunnel vision? JMO.
