This program will be even more screwed up if we fire Dooley.

If they were to fire Dooley our recruiting would go to crap. We would be four years from competing for the SEC east again. Starting over. Makes no sence. Don't people get that Fulmer lost to Vandy , and Wyoming. I been behind Dooley since he was hired. But he is going to have to make some coaching changes. And another thing, he wants positive comming out of the team. Then stop telling every reporter you see we are not a good football team right now. I hate when he does that. Now he has been Mr Nice guy for a few years. It's time to go Saban on them. Get in someone's face when they keep messing up. I think we need a new O-line coach, a DBs coach, someone who knows how to work with the special teams and with punters and kickers.

Wrong.

more screwed up?
a good high school coach has a decent chance of getting one SEC win with the players we put on the field.

More screwed up? We just lost to a historically awful KY squad and our lone SEC win was over hapless Vandy.

Vandy is hardly hapless. They're going bowling and we're not. Franklin has brought new life to their program and Dooley seems to have sucked out whatever life we had left after Kiffin.

KY defense played better good football yesterday.

Part of me wants to see Dooley go...but I think the OP has point. Anyway, what's one more year at the bottom? We'll have a lot of players returning...should at least win seven games next year...however Vandy won't be one of them.

Either way, as I had to explain to 10 year old son yesterday, "We are Vols, we will always be Vols, and that means supporting UT during the times of trouble as well as the times of triumph."

Go Vols.

Please. Vandy is Vandy. A bunch of close losses means diddly. They beat nobody worth beating.

BS! If we still had Hamilton who hired a no-name HC with a losing record coming in, to do it all over again...I could agree with that. But something tells me Hart has been around successful programs for too long, to want to keep an unproven HC, who lost his team, any longer than he has to.
If I were in his shoes, I would personally call Gary Patterson and make him an offer to be paid in the top 5-10% of coaches in the conference. That would be 3.5 Mill+, and I think that would get him. He would have two All American WR's, a potential AA at QB, in Bray, and lots of talent on the OL, at DB, DE and LB.

He might even keep Wilcox, since they were once rivals.
Players and recruits, while not liking all the turnover, would appreciate us more for "getting it right" than letting them enter next season with a ? mark for a HC.

I use to think this also but we just lost to Kentucky how much more screwed up can it get!!! Hire a coach a big name coach that will make a splash and make people say WOW it early enough to retain what recruits we have and maybe get a few more!!!

Im not going to argue but I know what im talking about when I say NO ONE WANTS TO COACH HERE! If you can name 1 legit proven coach that is even intrested then ill agree with all of your foolishness opinions. Until then im behind Dooley and I will be because we are not there yet just be a little patient. Once again just my opinion.

Bring in a better coach and the team will be better, and the recruits will still come. In fact, better recruits will probably come because we look serious.

I think Dooley needs 1 more year because of the mess he inherited. The player defections, ncaa sanctions looming, the loss of the AD who hired him, the problematic players he had to deal with, plus the injuries sustained this year. He definitely needs to make changes on the staff but deserves one more year. No other coach wanted this job after Kiffin left and after another top 15 recruiting class, the job will be more appealing. I think Dooley may win next year and if so, he keeps his job. If not, then he needs to go. I am not sure that there are a lot of top tier coaches out there that a realistic candidates for the job. I don't see Sumlin as an upgrade. He had one good year at Houston. The Noise State and BYU coaches aren't leaving and there is a reason no one has called Mike Leach. Butch Davis and Jim Tressel are not good options right now.

Tennessee finished 1-7 and last in the SEC East. I'm really not sure why people think things are going to just get so much worse if Dooley is fired.

How is a coaching upgrade not a good thing? Recruits read, and so do their parents. It's all over the Internet, the TV and the papers how the players don't respect Dooley, fans don't like Dooley, Dooley's on the hot seat, yada yada. So we already have uncertainty and perceived instability. Hiring a coach with experience and a winning record will restore confidence in the program and make UT more attractive to recruits, not less. We probably aren't in a position to unload Dooley right now, but if we could get somebody better, it might dispel some of the toxicity and make people feel better about the program.
