Humor me a second. This loss may be the turning point in Butchs time here. Let's say he learned that to win at this level, you have to push and never let up. Not play scared. I think Butch is smart enough to know when something isn't working and will do things differently. I know, I know, what about Florida last year? He got a pass on that one. He isn't going to get any more passes after Saturday. If we go down, we better go down swinging. It's clear to everyone and I gotta believe Butch sees it too. Not that he is on the hot seat, because he isn't. But i think he knows he won't survive long term unless he starts winning some of these games he shouldn't. On paper, he wasn't supposed to win Saturday. But he should have and he knows it.

The Fact he owned up to the loss today is a big testament he knows how angry as a fanbase we are after that debacle... The fact he didn't do it that night pissed me off even more.. But if he can learn from this all is good if not he's done here.. Better call the moving van..

Hopefully you're right but...he didn't learn this lesson after Vanderbilt in 2013, he went on to do the same thing the next year at home vs Florida. He didn't learn from Florida either as he did the same thing Saturday. Odds are he won't learn from it this time either...his comments in his press conference don't inspire much confidence either.

I could agree with you, but this isn't the only time this has happened in Butch's very short tenure at Tennessee. This is loss #3 that should've been a win IMO. Hopefully you're right and Butch does a little "self-scouting". But to date, he comes across as a very proud fella not likely to change his stripes. Hope I'm wrong.

So sick of people saying he wasn't supposed to win. If he and the team really think that why show up and play!?

I was speaking of the media and Vegas. I picked them to win 34-20. Dobbs said he knew they were ready. I think everyone in that locker room believed they were going to win. But, all the pundits picked against us. That's what I meant.

Honestly, no. This wasn't good for the program. It has raised all sorts of negativity and doubt.

IDT CBJ gets a pass on Vandy in Year 1, UF in Year 2 or OK in Year 3. You can't give him a pass for the losses if he gets credits for the wins. You look at the whole body of work. We had a suspicion that grew into a question that needs to be answered-- is Butch a good enough gameday coach to win big games... pivotal games... at UT? Nobody's saying "fire him" or "hot seat" but it's a valid question. Let's hope he answers it in The Swamp.

If Butch didn't learn until last Saturday that you have to push and never let up at this level...well, consider me very worried about his football IQ.

This too shall pass. I have been a life-long (50+ years) Vol fan, and I have been through a lot worse than this. My worst recollection is starting a season during the Majors era 0-6. This does hurt, but what doesn't kill us will only make us stronger. On the bright side, we are undefeated in the conference this year. There is a lot of football left. GBO.

If the coach coaches scared the players play scared. Its pretty simple. LSU is the best at doing the exact opposite as much as i hate the open finger clapper his players play loose and it produces wins.

Actually 98% of the negativity and doubt, and count me as one of them the past two days, is coming from this board and local media. I've been watching ESPNU and they just did a piece on how optimistic the Vols should be. They just have to learn to win. It was an epic collapse. But, we can compete now. We haven't had the horses to compete for several years. When the first win comes, the flood gates will open.

"This may be the best thing that ever happened to us". "This is a turning point". I've heard that so many times in the Jones era. Give it a break.

But he didn't get a pass for that. It's still pretty fresh for most of us. This game felt a lot like that one. Another missed opportunity that we should have had. I can see the improvement in the play of the team but we have now blown three 4th quarter leads at home under Butch.

If you think he "owned up" to the loss because some fans thought he screwed up, you are giving yourself way too much credit. The coach that coaches by listening to the fans ends up sitting with the fans

What I really want to know is who's decision it was to settle for 3pts instead of going for the TD? Jones or Debord? Who's decision was it to go conservative in our playcalling? These are questions I'd like answered.

Let me ask you this he was giving the chance to own up that night he didn't do it till today...why is that? Maybe the pressure was on?

This may be a turning point for the season. Heck, every time we lost to Florida under Fulmer, we started playing loose and better. All it took was that loss to Florida to get Fulmer's butt in gear.:)
