This loss was on a couple Heupel decisions

He coached scared on multiple occasions. You can’t be a chickenshít against Kirby Smart. The punt at midfield that they drove the field on, and especially the decision not to center the ball on the field goal at the end were scared decisions, and you cannot coach scared against teams like that. There were other issues in the game, but the head coach’s in game decisions cannot be an issue if you are going to beat a powerhouse.
Nah, I usually say there’s no wrong opinions. But this is dang close. Would I have wanted him to be less conservative after the turnover? Sure. But ensuring points to make it an 8 point game is smart football. If he went aggressive and something happened then all of a sudden you’d be here saying just take the points. Also, your defense has been forcing field goals the last few drives. I want you to ask yourself a question.. At the end of the day, were we in position to win at the end of regulation? The answer is yes. Doesn’t sound like a coaching issue to me..

Not being able to score at all in the second quarter beat us. It should have never come down to the last FG in regulation. Kirby adjusted and we didn't until the 3rd quarter. We got out coached, nothing to hang our heads about the Vols played about as well as could be expected. Both teams had ups and downs in the flow of the game.

I didn’t even mention that in my OP. Heupel embarrassed himself out there yesterday. We saw the difference between good and great.

The things you mentioned were non issues and are perfectly normal in a close game against a team favored against you while you have home field advantage. The positioning for the field goal was exactly where Gilbert wanted it by the way.. QB went for nearly 400 against Georgia’s defense. Starting to think you are a little troll

We were going to center the ball until Heupel let fear win out. So even Heupel believed centering the ball was the best decision. Many of you would defend a Tennessee coach if he slapped your mother. “Mom’s always been a little mouthy.”

Danny White did not pick up this team out of a cabbage patch. The near win against Georgia, one of the top programs in the country for several years, was on thousands of decisions made ... by Josh Heupel. If it weren't for Coach Heupel, we'd still have a crummy team like the teams we had before he came here. I wanted to win. I was frustrated. But some of you'nes seriously need to pour yourselves a nice tall glass of STFU.

It isn't easy to make a 42 yard FG when it has to be pushed or pulled! Heupel **** his pants and didn't get to the center of the field on 3rd down with 7 seconds left. That would have madeit an EASILY MAKEABLE STRAIGHT ON KICK!!!
meh. We're talking an 80%(+) probability on that kick. Even higher before the Umarov penalty. Anyone should happily take those odds to beat a team like Georgia. Complaining about Heupel is absurd. He put us in a position to win.

I think that we lost because Georgia kept clawing back points, again and again. We did our best, but the defense was on the field for 16.94 minutes more than the dawgs. That's an entire quarter plus two minutes. The defense was good, but they were gassed.

I'd say this is a big part of it. Which is probably why he dialed back tempo after so much success early on.

Tough line to walk. Offense plays better with tempo. Defense clearly lacks the depth to maintain it.

I’m still recovering from the loss, honestly. This one is going to sting for a long, long time. It’s equivalent to Oklahoma and Florida in 2015, for me, which are the most painful losses I have ever experienced. They literally made me sick to my stomach afterwards. Like something had been stolen from me. 10 years later, they still hurt. And this may be worse because this game would’ve meant just so much to myself and all Vol fans. UGA is just so important for us, as a program, to beat and we have failed miserably to do so for almost a decade now. I am convinced that Tennessee just can’t take the final step to becoming a true national championship contender without beating UGA. To go into the State of Georgia and take their top talent, you have to have shown you can beat UGA on the field. And I just hate UGA so much. I hate their fans, I hate their players, I hate their coaches, I hate everything about that school.

But my thoughts are pretty much the same as after the game. Heupel gets no blame from me. He coached one hell of a football game. The second half is always when UGA takes the will out of their opponent and it just didn’t happen. He sliced and diced the one team that has consistently shut us down. Everything UGA threw at us, he pretty much had an answer for. He did his job. He put us in position to beat the top dog in the SEC on what should have been the final play of the game.

I’m sorry, but all you had to do was make that kick. It’s unfortunate in a team sport to blame individuals and in football, there are so many plays you could point to that if you reverse the outcome of, it changes the outcome of the game. But the bottom line is that you had UGA dead to rights. All you had to do was snap the ball cleanly, make the kick and everyone’s partying. The blame for the loss for me goes squarely to the lineman who had the false start penalty before the kick and the kicker for failing to make that kick. You absolutely cannot make those 2 mistakes. They let the team down. I still just cannot believe you can have a false start penalty in that scenario. And as a kicker, you have one job. It’s unfortunate to say, but he failed to do his job. It was not an easy kick and, of course, the pressure is absolutely unbelievable. But a 43-yarder is a kick you are expected to make at the college level. When he missed that kick, we were toast and everyone in the stadium knew it.

Yes, he did put UT in a position to win. Then, he put them in a position to lose with the conservative play the last two drives with 3 runs up the middle both times! That has Fulmer written all over it. The only reason Fulmer led the Vols to a NC was because of Al Wilson, Billy Ratliff, and the D, not Fulmer!

I was cool with the punt, but deciding against running 1 more play because he didn't want to risk losing yards is literally coaching scared. Who knows maybe we pop one and get 15 yards to set up a chip shot?

Heupel is not a big-time SEC coach and needs to be gone
Now this is just stupid.

Criticizing decisions is one thing but he's the only coach in the world who could have make Tennessee a top 5 program in 4 years like he has done. Chill.

Just unbelievable how some of you are responding to this. CJH is the reason we were in this game. Yes, I agree there were some conservative play calls, but we had a chance to win this game due to his coaching, his staff, recruiting, etc. When was the last time we could say we went toe to toe with UGA?
