OP is right on both and the 3 runs after the turnover should of been included too.

If the D had gotten a stop on several occasions we would’ve won.

And Gilbert. He should have made it. It’s what he’s on the team for.

I keep thinking that he will learn a lesson but I am starting to wonder. Plenty of blame to go around but the decisions he made in multiple situations was just terrible.

Correct.

You either try and push the ball down the field to get within the kickers comfort distance or you center the ball. We effectively did neither.

No but Heupel originally wanting to center the ball before the false start is a pretty good indicator that I’m right. Also the fact that people aren’t tripping over themselves to tell me I’m an awful human being despite the fact I criticized a Tennessee coach is a pretty good sign that I could be barking up the right tree.

Only by people who know the game and see the same failures in almost every big game…multiple long drives, **** ton of 3rd down conversions, watching opposing qb have the best game of his career and giving the lead up 5 times with a defense confused often and not ready when the ball is snapped.
Bend but don’t break ******** relying on stopping 3rd and short all game.

Discounting taking a knee to end regulation. GA scored on 8 of their 12 drives. 4TD/4FG.

At the time of the fumble, Georgia had scored on 6 of their 11 drives. 3FG /3TD.

Georgia had been running all over and wearing us down since the second qtr. We adjusted to the run, managed to force a 3 and out, then held them to two FG's, but that made us vulnerable over the top if our rush couldn't get to the QB. The strip sack was clutch, but we were still sruggling to keep our defense off the field without surrendering points. Their was too much game clock remaining to trust our defense to hold GA again. TOP isn't as significant to our system now as in years past, but you're asking a lot expecting them to hold up given this games TOP disparity.

When you out talent a team and your defense is stronger (like last year) you can lean on your defense to protect a 1 score lead. We don't out talent GA and our defense isn't what kept us in the game.

Our offense exceeding expectations is what kept us in the game. We should have leaned on them more and tried to stretch the lead to 2 scores after the fumble

Banks blitzed more today than he ever has in previous Georgia games. Problem was some of those came from too deep.

Our defense was worn out and we needed to hold ball some. No issue with using some clock there. Stockton made a great throw on 4th down. Give the guy credit.

Those 3 runs after the fumble is unconscionable. Why? Made no friggin sense. What the hell was that? And Max Gilbert choked big time. I don't feel bad for him. I feel bad for the team and fans.

That was definitely a mistake, not sure what the thought process was.
Also we had 3 plays to line the ball up for the kicker and were penalized for offsides.
Everyone in that stadium knew that was what we were trying to do because we were in range already. I think Georgia's defense was playing for the run also ..... Why not take a shot for the end one while they're thinking run? Score a touchdown and field goals don't matter at that point.
Alot of things could have been done better after the 2 minute warning to seal a victory but we did go vanilla hoping for a win instead of being confident of a win.
The announcers kept saying it was a kickers dream scenario, I told my wife that I thought it was a nightmare scenario for a lone individual of such a young age to have it put on his shoulders in front of 100,000 rabid fans dying for a win.

I'm encouraged though by the effort put forth today going into the rest of the season, especially if we are healthy.

100% agreement. How many times did the offense seemed to make mistakes with penalties or the defense seemed unsure as to what their positions were. This is a sign of a lack of discipline and poor coaching. This has happened over and over in big games. Now TN, once again,this year, can have a bucnch of wins and once no championships. Heupel is a fine coach up to a point. You have coaches that can make huge improvements in the program and he has done that, but other coaches, and you can look in college and the pros, in any sport, are the championship coaches. Heupel is not one of them. If you want a team that looks like the Dallas Cowboys, Heupel is your guy.

Agree. Heupel puckered up after the motion penalty. With 7 secs he should have run an out pass or a slant to get some of those yards back.

I felt Gilbert got spooked after the penalty. He had in his mind he was going to have a 35yd kick, and then it was 40yd. He tightened up and didn't swing his hip through the ball, and pushed it wide.

IMO, Gilbert was not the right choice for the job last year.... great leg, but he just tightens up at crunch time.

I am glad you are encouraged by the win, while other teams will be in the run for championships, but not Tenn. Playing not to make a mistake vs playing to win usually leads to a mistake anyway. After the fumble recovery, he should have been throwing for a touchdown. It is such a well known play after a demoralizing play by the other ream, but Heupel is just not a championship type coach.

If I'm not mistaken, we passed 16 times the 1st qtr, and scored 21 points. We passed as many times in the first qtr, as we did the whole rest of the game. Hype changed and slowed down in the 2nd qtr. If we had continued in the 2nd qtr the same offensive scheme, we could have put the game away. And I agree with others, that after the strip sack we were playing for a field goal, 3 straight runs. With all this said, I would rather have Hype than any other hc. He just needs to learn when playing a quality team, you can't go conservative and beat them in todays college football.

Can you imagine how the Defense felt when they came up with a huge turnover only to see us go groundhog again on their side of the field in our stadium? When you get the chance and the opportunity on the big stage, you better take it to the limit.

You're at home with a great crowd behind you, it's a scoring contest, not a defensive battle, and the coach quits on the offense, and opts for a relatively long field goal try. The field goal is never a sure thing, no matter how much someone wants to believe it should be. There's always a chance to miss. And the goofy overtime rules can make OT a crapshoot, especially when your playcalling has just communicated your fear and lack of confidence to your offense.
