This loss was on a couple Heupel decisions

He coached scared on multiple occasions. You can’t be a chickenshít against Kirby Smart. The punt at midfield that they drove the field on, and especially the decision not to center the ball on the field goal at the end were scared decisions, and you cannot coach scared against teams like that. There were other issues in the game, but the head coach’s in game decisions cannot be an issue if you are going to beat a powerhouse.
It’s always easy to play Monday Morning Quarterback after the game. The way CJH handled the game towards the end was the way 99% of most other great coaches (of present and past) would have handled that situation. Had our OT not jumped off sides on 3rd down it would’ve been a 35 yard field goal at the center of the field. Our guy makes that kick 95% of the time. I personally think that the coaches coached a great game on both sides of the ball and for the most part, our team executed the game plan very well against a really good Georgia team. It always sucks to lose, but I am personally very optimistic about this team and where we will be at the end of the year.

I was playing Saturday morning quarterback on those decisions. This isn’t hindsight. It was dumb. Saying the kick should have been easily made makes the decision even dumber.

Heupel outcoached Kirby all game tonight. It was brilliant against the UGA defense. We just have to stop the run.
No, he didn't. He was taken to school again by a coach who confidently knew Heupel would put the offense in the freezer on the slimmest of leads. Heupel killed the confidence of the team playing scared which put all the pressure on Gilbert who wasn't helped by a stupid illegal procedure moving it back 5 yds. As long as Smart coaches Georgia, he knows he owns Heupel and Tennessee.

Playing scared and playing not to lose has a bad effect on our players and sends a message to the opponents that we are wound up tight and afraid to try much of anything but safe handoffs. Can you imagine how the Defense felt when they came up with a huge turnover only to see us go groundhog again on their side of the field in our stadium? When you get the chance and the opportunity on the big stage, you better take it to the limit.

Considering the injuries we had on defense before the game even started - no, the defense started shaky but stepped up when needed and did enough to win the game. PI was also not called the same for both teams
Heupel needs to evaluate his training and conditioning staff with so many injuries EVERY year. What good is talent if you can not get it on the field.

Heupel even during the Hooker years has/had an issue where our offense, most often in the second quarter, disappears just like it did today. It was the difference in the game actually. Heupel being up 21-7 allowed UGA to score 17 unanswered where they stepped right back into the game. I think overall the team played hard and well. Our defense has yet to figure out how to stop the deep throw outside on the right where they scored TDs when they wanted to or stopping the 15 yard rush on the left which we saw and didn't stop all day including in overtime where they gashed us for 15 yards and a couple of plays later scored the winning TD. I hate it but Kirby Smart out coached Josh Heupel once again. If Heupel can't put a W against Kirby by the next time the dawgs roll into Neyland, I have no problem at that point searching for somebody who can.

I took more umbrage with the conservative play calling after we finally got a sack and the fumble as well as the final drive as I point out here…

I won’t dispute any objections there either.

The players have to execute. He did everything he could to put them in position for the win. No coach is perfect. It’s a young season, literally the SEC opener. We have a really good football team. Enjoy the year.

We were missing a lot on D and they kept us in the game, can't complain. From recovering the fumble to the last drive to go to OT we played not to lose. I'm OK if we lose to a better team but the prevent win is never alright as far as I'm concerned. I don't blame the kicker at all, what happened to the put our foot on their throats and never let up? Wasn't that kind of CJH's motto? I agree with the OP, I figured we lost when we didn't try to go up 12. Wish he would have taken responsibility for that, I like him as a coach but need to own up to playing scared at the end. Seriously how many here didn't feel they knew what the outcome would be after that? If you want to take out the king you have to take him out, he isn't going to give you the title. Hated those play calls and hate when we control a team at the end and go to prevent, do what you do and be what you are. Coach doesn't have anything to prove due to where he got us to in the time he did, but I'm not gonna sugar coat it, very disappointed with the calls from the fumble recovery on.

There was still same amount of time on clock as before false start so run it again.. Except just get Joey under center and hike ball and let Joey take a couple steps to right, kneel in center of field, call t.o. Make kick (from center of field), no time left on clock as winning FG sails through uprights and we are all happy right now.
True, but you also take a chance of fumbling or bad snap which we have had one every game so far.
I do agree in the fact that I would have ran it one more time to the center.
