I believe the days of Vandy being the SEC cellar dwellers are about over. I remember seasons when Vandy was LUCKY to get one SEC win. Over the years they have gotten steadily better and can no longer be considered an automatic win.

If this was a contest of SAT scores, Vandy is a 3-1 favorite. Call your bookie..........

You know, I've heard this since Bobby Johnson got to Vanderbilt, and I just don't think it holds true. Vandy, through the years, has fielded competitive teams that routinely lost close games to the SEC powers and finished with one or two conference wins. The are now in a position where they are consistently loosing close games to the SEC powers and finishing with one or two conference wins. The biggest difference in Vandy under Johnson has been the 12 game schedule that allowed them to add Eastern Michigan.

I don't think I've ever heard the public so enamored with a coach that has a winning percentage at his current school under .300.

Exactly :good!:. Every team in the SEC besides Bama and Florida have improved tremendously since our glory years (late '80's and '90's). I'm not for the keeping of Fulmer, but I think that's one of the the main reasons his job is in jeopardy.

when that school is vanderbilt, it's understandable.

This ain't your father's Tennessee team, either.

Actually, this is pretty much my dad's Tennessee team...a guaranteed 3 or 4 losses (one a whippin' by Bama) per season and enough talent to scare an elite team for maybe a couple of quarters before reality sets in.

It might be, but it isn't improvement. Johnson is currently, by my count, 20-49 at VU (15-43 coming into the season.) Woody was run out of town after going 15-40. Dinardo left (with a "good-ridance") after going 19-26. Dowhower and Brown were slightly worse, going 4-18 and 10-45, respectively.

In the conference, Johnson is an impressive 8-39 compared to Woody at 4-28, Dinardo at 9-22, Dowhower at 1-15, and Brown at 4-29.

The Tally? Johnson is .289 overall and .170 in conference, Woody was .272 and .125, Jerry D. .422 and .290, Rod D. .181 and .067, and Brown .181 and .121.

Please feel free to correct my math if it is in error, but by my count, this actually IS your father's Vanderbilt team.

Indeed...Steve Sloan is the only Vandy coach in the last 55 years to have a winning record as a head coach. Every coach since Sloan (with the exception of DiNardo) was well under .500. Johnson 39 games under .500, Woody 35, Dowhower 14, Dinardo 6, Brown 35, MacIntyre 37, Pancoast 18.
