THIS is why Coaches should not stay for bowl games!!

Absolutely amateur play calling today. I'm glad Cut is gone..he's a great QB coach, but a lousy OC. He will struggle big time at Puke! I can't stand that playing not to lose mentality on our sidelines. It's chicken sheet football in my book...that's why you'll never see a Fulmer led team in another NC game. ......Good win today but same ole BS Tennessee Football IMHO!

On the 2nd G-Gun, it looked like it was a designed pass. He carried the ball differently and looked to hesitate with the run.

But seriously? If he doesn't run it, people whine he's not doing it enough. If he does run the G-Gun, and it doesn't produce a 15 yard run everytime... people criticize it. Simply put... the O-Line couldn't open any holes for either Foster or Jones in the 2nd Half, and not only the running of Foster but Jones reflected that. He tried it, and it worked.

And also is every screen going to be criticized? What is an acceptable performance from our Offense? 40 points in every game? To call his playcalling atrocious is absurd. The G-Gun and the series where we were starting from our 1 yard line are, in my opinion, the only ones that warrant any criticism.

what bothered me the most about the 2nd Ggun series was that one of the three plays appeared to be a designed option play and he never even came close to pitching it. It became way too predictable. Especially when even TVA would have to admit that Ainge was doing a great job of leading the Vols down the field.

i only question the timing of the G gun series. The few screens we ran and more importantly the 3 and 4 yard passes were very effective. We didn't try to establish a ground game, but we haven't done that all year. It had nothing to do with lack of preparation. Looked like a very typical Tennessee offense of the past two years.

On a sidenote, I laughed when they talked about not running out of the I formation the past two years. Seems everyone is oblivious to the fact that UT doesn't have a legit FB on the roster.

A.) Dont point that out. There are a lot of posters on here that are determined that we are running the same offense since the stone age. Pointing out we have not used te I-formation in two years will blow their mind. Although they will make some excuse.

B.) We had a capable FB on the roster in the spring and still planned to run the offense this way. We are doing it by choice at this point.

What drove me crazy was that trick play in the redzone and pulling Ainge in the redzone when he was on fire. These two things almost wound up losing us the ball game.

I have always liked Cut and respect him. But the play calling is driving me nuts. Why go for it on fourth down just to run three "G-Gun" plays that are getting no yards. It worked the first couple of times in the first half, but unless he throws the ball they are going to keep bringing the house. I just think the play calling has been too gimicky. And it all falls back to the fact that they have nothing to lose if it fails. SEE TRICK HANDOFF THAT WE FUMBLED. I think Cut, Taylor, Roper, and Luke should have to wear the shirt and hat of their true colors. Duke Blue and make Taylor wear a cowboy outfit on the sidelines!
Yep. I much rather would have had the alternate outcome of the game.:crazy:

Why did you guys think the playcalling in the bowl game would be any different than the whole year? Thank God this season is done. And Thank God Michigan beat FL.

I don't think the complainers are comprehending that it's the same stuff we saw all year with only the addition of the Ggun at moments when it wasn't needed.

Here is the thing. The Play calling was atrocious all year long. Play calling is one of the biggest factors in the Florida loss. It looked like a modern day team(Florida) playing against a team from the fifties in black and white(Us). The only offensive creativity we could bring to them was a receiver reverse. Remind me how that worked out for us. You have other games (ALABAMA) when we sat running backs on the bench because they were not as strong at receiving. Bottom line........ There are some of us on this board that are not Saturday only Tennessee Football fans. There are a lot of us on here that live for this 365 days a year. We do more than watch a game to see if we win. We are breaking down individual players contributions and performance on every play not just if we win. We are not WHINING. We come on here to talk about those different aspects with other people that follow it as close as we do. We have web sites, blogs, some of us are newspaper writers, some work in sports radio, and some even are coaches on the high school level. We are more than the average fan that is satisfied if we win. Like the South Carolina game, we won, but it felt like a loss because we played like an inter mural team. So do me a favor Bill, Nuclear and others in this thread. If you aren't gonna add anything to the post, don't annoy us just by watching yourself type. We aren't whining, we are talking about things we do not like about the team/season/coaching. Last i checked that is the reason this website exists.

See, I disagree with you. I think the games were more-or-less called well. When receivers drop balls, O-linemen miss blocking assignments, QB's make bad passes...that's when I am upset.

Sometimes it seems like we go to the well too much when something's working, but there was nothing terrible about the playcalling this season.

something that i caught from the announcers, perturbed me a bit. they quoted Cut as saying, "Tennessee by day and Duke by night." if i heard that correctly, i am thinking it was more like"Duke at night, and daydreaming about Duke during UT practice." but, i guess it's spilled milk now. at least he left us with a win.

I'm on record on the pertinent thread as saying Cut should have been shown the door when he accepted the Duke job, and nothing has changed my mind.
