I have always liked Cut and respect him. But the play calling is driving me nuts. Why go for it on fourth down just to run three "G-Gun" plays that are getting no yards. It worked the first couple of times in the first half, but unless he throws the ball they are going to keep bringing the house. I just think the play calling has been too gimicky. And it all falls back to the fact that they have nothing to lose if it fails. SEE TRICK HANDOFF THAT WE FUMBLED. I think Cut, Taylor, Roper, and Luke should have to wear the shirt and hat of their true colors. Duke Blue and make Taylor wear a cowboy outfit on the sidelines!

His playcalling isn't any different today than it has been all year with the exception of the downfield passes in the first half.

I have to disagree about this. This is the first time our 3 yard screens on 3rd and 7 are working. Cut should coach in the Big 10.

I hope that Cutcliffe has a flight out of Tampa tonight to get onto Duke!!! He has called an AWFUL game in my opinion and like the announcers said, "Curious play calling" THEN we all know that his head has been all about Duke....MOVE ON!!!!!!!1

Vols win. Wisconsin loses.

Playcalling = Vols win no matter how you shake it out. Stop crying about it because it's over now. Don't dwell, don't linger, just let it go. haha

That was one ugly offensive performance. From the botched trick play to Creer, to the G-Gun on a series where we're killing them with the passing game, and our inability to generate any yards on the ground.

The offense was unprepared, which is really no surprise with most of the offensive staff leaving for other schools.

Up and down game for Ainge, but a solid overall performance.

How long did they have to prepare for that game, because it seems like they spent about 3 days on it.

Its amazing how we blow big leads in so many games, and don't learn anything about it.

It is amazing we won that game, awful 2nd half, but I am happy we finally won a bowl game.

I didn't mind the play calls with the exception of a few things:

G-Gun...if you're going to run it 3 downs, have Jones throw. He is capable.
The trick play could have worked, but not when the line blocks nobody and Creer doesn't have time to even get the ball in. It could have been a big play, though.

I don't see what the problem is with the 3-4 yard routes. That is what they gave us, and we tore them apart with it.

The same play calling everyone is calling atrocious got us up and down the field time and time again. The pass plays worked well, and for the most part, were good calls. Sometimes you have to dump it off when they rush 8 guys.

As a side note, I don't know if it is Ainge not being very mobile as much as it is some sort of knee injury. This is the first game I've noticed without the knee brace, which could explain some of the shorter passes, and some inaccuracy on longer passes. Seems like with a hurt knee, everything has to come off the back foot, thus giving him some poor mechanics.

Great effort from the defense. Offenseive play calling was terrible. I think whoever we get for a OC better have a good RB coach because other than Hardesty we were weak. Somebody needs to teach Foster to follow his blocks and run North and South. He probably ran for 100 yards but it was all sideline to sideline. He won't be going pro.

I agree. Teams will load 9 in the box on the G-Gun until we force them to respect the possibility of the pass.

I also question the timing of the G-Gun. We brought it out and stalled a drive that had been very successful with Ainge behind center.

And, on our final offensive drive (a drive in which we were clearly committed to running the ball on all 3 downs) we decided to run Foster 3 straight plays. That seemed like a perfect time for the G-Gun....it would have kept the ball on the ground, but would have created another option to get the defense off balance and pick up a first down.

ainge played well for the most part. he just got happy feet every now and then, which is something that has plagued him since day 1 at ut. i was kind of shocked that 340 passing yards showed up on his stat sheet though. i didn't realize he had thrown for that much.

agree about the playcalling though. it was nothing short of atrocious.

i only question the timing of the G gun series. The few screens we ran and more importantly the 3 and 4 yard passes were very effective. We didn't try to establish a ground game, but we haven't done that all year. It had nothing to do with lack of preparation. Looked like a very typical Tennessee offense of the past two years.

On a sidenote, I laughed when they talked about not running out of the I formation the past two years. Seems everyone is oblivious to the fact that UT doesn't have a legit FB on the roster.

The G gun will not be truly effective until he loads one down the field. He should have thrown on the last series Gerald ran it. On the other hand Ainge threw down field today and could have done it all day if we could have picked up the blitzers.

A large number of posters on this board will swear to you that we only run out of the I and that if it's not a run, then it's a screen pass.:dunno:

that's because to a large number of posters on this board, any pass shorter than 6 yards is a screen pass.
