This is where we are as a program

While I could see him choosing Arkansas over the dumpster fire here, I believe Currie and Fulmer slow played him or simply didn't have him up the list as highly as they did others. Even before he was hired by Arkansas Fulmer had a list filled with defensive guys.

Why Fulmer doesnt entertain the idea of hiring Kiffin is beyond me. If he really cared about nothing except UT winning football games, he would do it. The pride from our boosters and pride within the AD is the reason we are where we are today. Fulmer is too prideful to hire the best guy. JMO

I was listening to the sports animal and they just said Fulmer wanted Chad Morris, but he chose Arkansas over us. That is where we are... No-name coaches with mediocre resumes from no-name schools are choosing effing Arkansas over us. We might as well close down the football program. Forget hiring a quality power 5 coach, we cant even outbid Arkansas to get Chad effin Morris.

Your first problem was listening to the Sports Animal and not to Fox Sports Knoxville!

I agree. We need a head coach who can change the losing culture of our team, present to recruits the image that the team and the university is committed to excellence, and the belief that once a player gets here is going to get better. Kiffin has demonstrated the ability to do all those things. The other issues can be addressed in the contract with buyouts, incentives, and clear picture of what would be considered unprofessional conduct resulting in a with cause termination.

The hiring of unproven coordinators does not demonstrate a commitment to championships to coaches, recruits, or fans. If Tennessee was already perceived as stable and committed to putting championship teams together, we could look at a high potential coordinator to take over. Unfortunately we are not there.

Yes. You heard it on a sports radio show, so it must be true. (rolleyes).

Morris hasn't been very high on any of the leaks from Tennessee, and he is very low on my list, and I expect that of many others.

Arkansas can have him. It was likely an Arkansas fan spouting that nonsense.

Keep preaching brother. All that sunshine you bring is certain to make things better!!

Nothing like running down an entity to make more people love it. I think there should be a contest to see which poster can make the most depressing, we-suck and all coaches hate us post. Maybe Freak can award one of those $100 gift cards.

Can we call you sunshine going forward?

A little pride is a good thing. It's beyond me why anyone would take back a coach that has already embarrassed us, who also was pretty mediocre with 4 and 5 start talent, acts like a juvenile and is a magnet for NCAA infractions.

Fulmer not hiring him is maybe the smartest thing he's done since taking the AD position.

One thing that's always mentioned as an issue here is the challenge in recruiting. Coach Phil didn't mind spending countless hours in the air traveling cross country to recruit but apparently the new age of coaches prefer to recruit nearby and Knoxville is supposedly in the middle of nowhere. So my question is why are all the top recruits willing to go to Bama in the middle of nowhere? It's because of Saban. He's a big name coach (with success). This is why our focus should have always been towards a big name coach. I think we had a chance of that until the Schiano backlash and I honestly believe a combination of Athletic Department problems and the fan influence through social media has pushed coaches away. So we don't have a choice but to choose another Butch Jones clone and hope it works out.

Exactly. Any recruit would of came to play under Gruden. Heck he wouldn't of even needed to actively recruit. Still say UT should just offer him a crap ton of money that no one could resist and watch how it goes. Would be a fun ride I'm sure.

Sorry, I have to throw the bull**** flag and disagree. 5 Different Coaches in 10 years. Despite winning Seasons, and Bowl wins. We give no coach any incentive to come deal with this AD Department, or the unrealistic fans. I love my Vols, but a lot of the Fans and the AD Department are stone cold crazy. We are going to have many more losing seasons to come. Because I wouldn't let my own son play at UT if he was a 4-5 Star. Program is not stable and New Coaches on average every 2-3 years.

Fulmer (2008), Kiffin, Dooley, Jones, and now the unknown new guy (2017).

Think about that, no way ANY COACH (Jon Gruden or Jesus Christ) changes what these recruits have seen us do over the last decade. The Fans are crazy, and the Staff is incompetent. Avoid it like the plague is what I would tell my own son. That is sad. Forget in state talent or out of state. I wouldn't recommend this Athletic Department to 3 Star players. I post very rarely but this is the biggest joke in the NCAA right now. Accept it as fact. Because its true.

Coach-less Vols have Back to Back loses to Vanderbilt, this pretty much says where the Vols are, doesn't it?
The Vols are going to try and Coordinate out of this bottomless pit misery:eek:lol:

The Schiano garbage hurt the perception badly. The social media mob trial and conviction of Schiano had all the media huffing and puffing. Then Currie running what was probably the worst coaching search in the history of football did it on in. We're cursed. Self inflicted.

We need to restore the Indian mound and ask the spirits to forgive us.

And Arkansas will continue to be a non-factor in the West with this hire.

Where we are as a program is winless in the SEC after having also lost to Vanderbilt back to back as well.

We'd be running Gruden out of East Tennessee after paying him a boatload of money for four consecutive years of losses to Bama and Saban. Gruden knows it, Saban knows it, 80% of the Vol fanbase knows it, and even Stevie Wonder sees it. Fanboys knows who Gruden is, hs kids think he's some guy from ancient history like Vince Lombardi. They were ten years of age the last time he coached, you ask most 18 year old males who Jon Grudun is, you're lucky if 50% of them even realize he's associated with football.
