Its a lot easier to be negative...tear something down. Lowering expectations is a natural defense mechanism designed to soften the blows if a season goes badly. Lets face it the odds of a good season this year is not great. Having one of the hardest schedules will make things tough. The odds that we have another down year is very high. This is something we all should realize and some what expect. This however does not mean that we should want this to happen- just so some of us can claim they were right in their predictions. I hope CBJ surprises a lot of people.

Sometimes I see a lot of chest pumping, and overly stroked egos, who think they are the alpha and omega of all that is right- this to me is a little irritating because they use message boards, not simply to discuss football, give opinions and generally have fun, but to give themselves a sense of self- it makes themselve feel better to tear others down- especially name calling. Others take their own opinions way too seriously! Give me a break. If someone disagrees with you it does not mean its a personal attack upon your great insight. They are entitled to an opinion- sure they may be wrong but using terms like idiot, or stupid- is only degrading for degrading sake. Take their statements with a grain of salt, we have all differant walks of life on this message board, not all are gifted with the intellectual and keen insight and frankly greatness of your brain. You should lower expectations of others.

I'll admit I've been guilty in the past, whether on here or in general in giving my own opinions a little too much weight then what they deserve or have resorted to name calling because its easy to say- not many repurcussions when siting behind a key board, i only bring this up because I'm a little tired of it. People need to be reminded that we are all here for the same reason and we are all here on the same side. No need to make enemies on here. Sure some are negative- to a fault, some are too positive or unrealistic but all I ask is to consider being nicer to one another.

I'm not sold on this staff yet but I'm not jumping off the ship either. The 14 class is so critical and will make or break this staff... And they need to follow that by a strong top 10 class for 2015. I am waiting till the end of the 14 season to make up my mind on this new staff.

That Cincy staff just came off of finishing 10-3, with a bowl win, and ranked in the National Top 25 with 2012 recruiting class ranked in the 30s.

We're gonna be fine. More than fine, we'll be GREAT! Catch your breath and chill out. :fool:

Yeah its the cincy staff. It has nothing to do with the fact that we have had several terrible seasons in a row or certainly nothing to do with the revolving door our head coaching position has become. Let's blame and fire the staff, that will fix it. Time to stay steadfast and loyal Vol fans. We all wanted a top notch class but bottom line we have our starters let's get behind them and win some games. Your best recruiter is your record. Let's rally. Go Vols!!!

There's really no excuse for this. You got out-recruited by Vanderbilt. You got your a$$ handed to you by Ole Miss. You've only had two months? Well so has Gus Malzahn and look at his class.

Penn State got the virtual death penalty and Bill O'Brien is still out-recruiting Butch Jones.

I've given Jones the benefit of the doubt up until now, but today I have to say it looks like he'll never get us back to the top of the SEC.

I would've liked better but no doubt Jones and staff deserve the benefit of the doubt under the circumstances. If we're struggling to get a top 20-25 class next year, then I might start wondering. But right now it's hard to fault them.

May I remind a lot of you bashers that you loved it when Dooley pulled in a top 10 class his first year (most of whom were Kiffin recruits) and said, wow, this guy is awesome. Guys and gals, get over it. We have a top 20 class now, and still have 6 spots. If we sign a couple of players even 2* or 3* (and there are some available still), then our class jumps up to close to 15 in nation. Had Bell and Ford signed, UT would have had a top ten class and you guys would of been turning cart wheels. But I don't think, (even though I would loved to had those two), that two players will make or break us. I think we addressed all our needs other than rb. If you look at star rating, which is not that accurate, UT has a better class rating than Vandy even right now. I say Vandy because a lot of you are saying they are outrecruiting us. The ONLY reason they are one spot above UT is they signed 26 and UT signed 21. More players, more points. Next year when UT is more competitive and they will be, we will have a great class. But don't fret, I still think UT signs a couple more guys this year. Go Vols!

Not sure what is worst than an epic fail to your jerking knee, but yeah, whatever that it is.
VON BELL went to OS to very well never be heard from again. Staff tried to steal other school's recruits with some success. UT had one possible big fish (Green) who chose a program (Michigan) that has started back up over us. Staff culled some recruits that they did not want. Picked up others that could help.

So your jerking knees have serious issues other than Coach Jones and the "CINCY" staff that you incorrectly describe. It is now the UT staff made up of Coach Jones and some of his Cincy guys along with 4 coaches that coach hired.

No, this is what happens when you have 3 winning seasons since 2004 when these kids were 9 and 10years.old. Auburn is only 3 years removed from a national championship.

Yea, but I did not know we had one till I started reading this forum. I knew UGA, UA and places like that did, but I was dumb to think Vol fans were fans for life. I don't always like our coach or what happens within our program, but I will not speak negatively about anything associated with our program on a public forum. Used your quote as a platform, not you personally.

I'm getting sick and damn tired of you brats expecting to get everyone damn 5star under the sun with a new staff that only had 31 days.... BE REALISTIC. You're a ****ty fan. You don't realize how much ground they had to make up with all these recruits in such little time. Before Jones came in we didn't have a ****'s shot with Lawson, Bellamy, Trey Johnson, Tyler Boyd, Christian Morris, Jonathan Ford, Shelton Gibson; and we had shots with Derrick Green, Vonn Bell, and EJ Levenberry and the previous staff COMPLETELY RUINED OUR CHANCES WITH THEM. It makes me sick you are already turning your back on this new staff this soon! WTF! Look at how well they closed in 31 days and imagine what they can do in 365... Don't you dare try to act like you approve of this staff when they start winning because you turned on them this early on. I'll keep this post in mind when October and November roll around. Seriously, learn what "Vol For Life" actually means. Take some damn pride in this team you moron.

DV, I agree with your general sentiment. There are better ways to express it, though. Half the negativity, name calling, and general flaming on this sight would evaporate immediately if the "more rational" among us showed some restraint.

IMHO, calm, rational, well-thought, well-spoken arguments have much greater impact than stooping to that other stuff. Just a thought.

Our board is in desperate need of a clean-up job. It has to start somewhere.
