This is what happens when you put a Cincy staff in the SEC

Damn,,I stumbled into the ignorant redneck thread. The few that follow recruiting one day a year then feel important enough to post stupidity. Most of you jacktards wear your VFL on your shirt sleeve, probably covered in snot from your senseless dribble. Get a grip children. You sissies act like it's life or death. It's a game. Played by young men. Been going on a long time. Oh, and a big Welcome to all of our new VOLS today. You know, the ones that signed and want to play in Neyland.

NO, this is what happens when you have losing seasons four out of the last 5 years and for Auburn, didn't they just win the National Championship 3 years ago? They are not that far removed from winning. These kids remember us losing and Auburn winning a National Championship. A lot easier to recruit whit that in your recent Reseme.
There is some truth to that, but it is not what sold the kids. It was Malzahn doing it right. He didn't bring 80% of his Arky St. staff. He went out and hired PROVEN SEC COACHES AND RECRUITERS!!!We had the opportunity to beat them to both Ellis Johnson and Garner. Jones wanted his buds. Today we paid a huge price for that cock-up.

He could have hired Randy Shannon. There aren't many coaches with his resume as a DC and recruiter. He would have opened up a pipeline to South Florida for us. Jones chooses a so-so coach from the Big East. Whoopty-freakin-do! I can see the recruits just flocking to Knoxville to play for, what was his name again...the DC? Jan-check or something other.

I was hopeful, but today just brought me back down to earth...at reality level. Sorry, but when there is something to cheer for. I'll be there. When there is not, I'm going to speak up, hoping it will get fixed. It was the fans raising a fuss that got Fulmer gone and now Dooley.

When these coaches go up against Oregon, Florida, Georgia, Bamer, etc...it's going to hit Jones right between the eyes. A sudden revelation, that he screwed up, just hiring his buds.

I was going to point out all of the obvious reasons, but after reading through this thread, about 100 other ppl have taken care of that.

This is, by far, the most unrealistic fanbase. Tennessee getting a top 5 or 10 class after the last 5-8 years is like ETSU thinking they are going to pull a top 25 class, and they don't even have a football team!

Coach Jones and crew took a 50th ranked class and in TWO MONTHS made it into a top 25 class. We got two great QBs, another badazz WR, some strong DLinemen, etc.

Vonn Bell would have been nice but, we have some safeties, and this recruiting fail is on Dumpster fire Dooley.

How ironic was his interview today on Bell after the kid picked OSU??? I was at least hoping he would just say, "Who?"

Get behind this team and QYBing.... We might just turn a corner if we have some faith in our new coaching staff.

I was disappointed in Bell. I did not think our safeties would scare him away form us. I guess Urban Liar was able to sell him lot of crap.

I highlighted the only word that made sense in your post and it wasn't proven SEC coaches. Should we have hired old Tommy?

Wow. We have 9 assistant staff positions, and you mention one of them as cause to refute my point. Gee, you're good .... Not really.

I mentioned Thigpen and Martinez previously and that Jones brought about 80% of his previous staff (from the mighty Big East). So, hiring a few with SEC (or Major conference level) experience is going to save the day on NSD? He needs a staff full of SEC level coaches and recruiters. Reality is this is Dooley bringing his staff from La. Tech, and sprinkle in a few with SEC experience, so you can give MAC coaches and SEC sized pay raise.

I totally disagree with the idea that Butch Jones did a poor job. When Butch Jones was hired, I thought it would be a small miracle if he got us into the Top 25 in the major recruiting rankings. Dooley dug such a deep hole, that it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Butch.

Meanwhile, say what you want about Gene Chizik, but he put together a pretty good recruiting class at Auburn. Hence, it's really no surprise that Gus Malzahn looks better than Butch Jones right now in recruiting, but that's because Gene Chizik was better than Derek Dooley.

The irony here is that Dooley whined and moaned about how bad things were when he took over. I think that things are actually worse now than when Dooley was hired.

Butch Jones actually did a reasonable job trying to salvage this class in six weeks. This was basically equivalent to taking over as coach in the 4th Quarter of a game and being down 38-10. Doesn't matter how good the coach is, no one is going to come back from that sort of a hole.

It's Butch's next class that we should really keep an eye on.

I hope those of you who support CBJ are 100% right and he's the man for the job.

But your defense of him is almost identical to what we were told for the better part of 3 years in regards to Dooley, when it was patently obvious early on that Dooley was way in over his head.
You nailed it. Butch Jones will most likely be gone in three years. Hopefully, Cheek and Hart will also be long gone and the issues between academics and athletics will be solved so we can hire someone who can actually do something to move this program back into championship contention. In the meantime, I'm just gonna hope that CBJ's vast experience winning the Big East will translate into beating Vandy.

op shut up . give the guy a full year before ya'll start bi!@hing
If we'd made the splash hire that everyone wanted then there would be less cause for complaint. We hired an uncertainty. He may be okay, he may suck. Today looks sucky. The butchwagon wasn't ever going to be more than half full until he either signs an elite class or pulls some upsets against teams that have been walloping us for years now. The people who are getting bent out of shape at an all too predictable response to an underwhelming result are the ones who need to check themselves and get a grip. If Butch wins in the Fall, we're all gonna be on board together. If he pulls a Dooley on gamedays are you going to keep coming on here and calling people names or admit that we maybe made a bad hire?

jones worked his ass off and its not his fault we're so cursed. it was that way before him and will probably continue after him. but i will say...we now all know his first major mistake has been made. it's his staff. he needed to put a couple of big name recruiters on the staff. i know he tried with tee, but a lot of guys were out there. randy shannon for one. the guy ended up taking a lb job for christ sake. he should be our dc right now imo and what would that do for our defensive recruiting? i believe it would have been hugh. probably wouldve been enough to get bell and who knows who else. i don't even know who we ended up with. i've seen his name but didn't recognize or remember it. oh well...here we go

I've been a Tn fan all of my life but I must say our fan base is not realistic. You say we must win to pull recruits. You say we must have more than one good season. Well ole miss and auburn have had neither. Yet they will finish in the top 10. Dooley might not have won but he at least got better classes and did it in less time. This makes no sense and we all just need to be realistic. We have a DC that can not recruit nor an OC that can not recruit. This is just disappointing.

You forgot to mention that we have an Athletic Director who cannot hire decent coaches. Oops, I forgot, we have the best football coaches in the nation... per the coaches, of course.

Despite Dave Hart and our best in the nation coaching staff... GBO!

I was utterly disappointed with today's happenings but I will give the staff the benefit of the doubt for this. I do want to see what kind of product we put on the field. Will we be we'll coached, disciplined? I understand there will be a talent disparity but I want to see good fundamentals. If I see progress there and in the game day preparations and calls I will feel better. I'm disappointed in our small minded AD but I don't hold that against Butch.

Yeah I heard he burned a lot of those bridges.

Sadly, that's the most true statement I've read.

A lot of you guys are lame, you are already expecting failure and CBJ hasn't even coached a game here. You know he actually has a track record of actually winning compared to Dooley.

NO WE'RE NOT!! lol Do you like to continually get your face slapped and spit on. Us naysayers know and realize it all began by us not hiring the BIG NAMED coach we desperately needed!! Secondly, the staff is above average..not the best in the world lets get real! I know what he meant when he said that, but be honest, you were thinking Kevin Steele, Randy Shannon, Bud Foster, etc...not Jancek! It all starts from the top and thats ButtCheeks and NoHart..idiots!! They are exactly like the Fords owning my beloved Detroit Lions. Nothing will every change and you will be cursed until they are finally canned or let go.

Knee jerk reaction. Probably stupid. Still, this is a signing day fail. No reason Auburn's staff closes so strong and ours doesn't.

meh. weaksauce.

even dooley couldnt ruin this class, no matter how hard he tried.

tennessee is on the way back up. weve got a winner at the helm

Nice try at being logical. The mob's already got their torches and pitchforks out. They're ready to lynch CBJ without actually waiting to see if he succeeds of fails.

Yeah I guess your right. Thing is in my opinion when we do win under Jones they shouldn't bother knocking to come back in.

I got a idea how but to make everybody happy lets fire the coach now and draw straws to see who coaches from week to week

that might make a few happy, but, your always going have some of these fans b#### about UT going undefeated and winning the NC

As I've said in this forum before, never underestimate the damage the Dooley tenure did to our brand. The fact that a losing coach could pull in a top 10 class his first year, as opposed to a winning coach in Jones proves this point. Our brand has been damaged, and the only remedy now is winning.

Lots of truth here and one of the reasons I believe we are in a worse position now then when Dooley was hired. Pre-Dooley the UT brand had blemishes; the firing of Fulmer, Kiffin's abandonment of the program and the subsequent public meltdown. Now in the mind of many recruits, UT seems to be regarded a step just above UK but nowhere near UGA, UF, Bama, LSU, ATM, and the top 2-3 teams from other conferences. That's how bad our brand is.

Fact - CBJ is going to have to win with less if this thing is ever going to get turned around. I'm rational enough to recognize that 6-6 in '13 represents a good job but I'm afraid he's going to have to go 7-5 or better for the kind of recruiting momentum we need to truly turn this program around.

For these reasons, I firmly believe Dooley has done more damage to our program than any person not named Mike Hamilton. This fan base has become so dejected with the trajectory of the program that I fear CBJ may be destined to failure through no fault of his own. I'm not saying he's not the guy for the job but it makes you wonder why the athletic administration didn't throw Saban style money at a proven commodity that could recruit on name alone. We all recognize that '13 will be year 5 of mediocrity and that attendance is already the lowest it's been since '79. I just don't know y'all, ugh.... I'm gonna go ahead and step away before I say something construed as being overly negative and counterproductive.
