This is the family that will pick our next coach

They had some decent yrs w/ Bernie Kosar, Kevin Mack, Ozzie Newsome, Clay Matthews. But that org became the Ravens when Modell moved them to Baltimore.

Agreed and THAT franchise had Leroy Green and Jim Brown as RBs earlier as well. I recall as a kid watching Jim Brown barely able to get off the ground and make it back to the huddle only to take the next handoff and bulldoze over defenders.

It's amazing how our situation parallels Alabama pre-Saban. Do we finally st tired of being mired in mediocrity and hire our Saban or do we continue to roll the dice and praying we hire the new hot up and comer?

No offense, but I find the Saban references amusing. He was their second choice. Rich Rod was their first. The Bama AD, Mal Moore, hired Franchione, Price, Shula, whiffed on Rich Rod, and then got lucky when Saban left Miami. Moore now has an athletic facility named after him.

Yep look at the browns, terrible ownership, pitiful franchise, and no apparent knowledge of building a team.

all true but needed to add that finally mal saw the writing on the wall and went to saban and as we all know saban told him no no no but mal moore camped in the front yard and would not take no for an answer. saban kept asking for more and more and mal just kept saying yes. this is why he has a building named after him. he was willing to pay whatever and risk whatever to get the best available.

Other teams passed on Watson as well.

And they were all dumb as hell for doing so. I remember thinking "what are you guys doing picking other unproven QBs ahead of a guy who performed at an elite level on the biggest stage possible in college football, vs the best program in the country?" Why do these NFL teams over think this stuff. Watson should've easily been the first qb taken.

Saban had zero ties with Alabama before coming there iirc. Your last sentence is exactly why Les Miles makes a ton of sense as our next coach.

Love Les as a guy, not as our next coach. Way too stubborn with his offense, fanbase would lose its mind imo.

You can’t actually be defending the browns. They have been whiffing drafts for several years

Yea it is actually amazing how badly they whiff on draft picks especially the QB spot. They also have the worse luck as a franchise, seems like when they have a player that starts to show positive signs he gets hurt or something else happens.

The problem with TN is there isn't really a stellar coach with school ties. I mean maybe Tee Martin, but would he take the TN job. And would we want to go that route?

I don't know what ties Bama had with Saban...so maybe that's the route we should take?

But the thing that ALL those coaches have in common is that they have coached or been an OC/DC at Power 5 schools.

Tee Martin..Ranby Sanders...J/B Cooter...all 3 UT QB's and coaching offense, which is what UT needs most.

With the SEC Network deal in place and our record profits we really do not have to depend on Haslem as much as we once did. I don't think he is going to be as much of the deciding factor as he has been in the past.

He will have a say. He had a say in hiring Bama Dave, he had a say in hiring Davenport (Chancellor), who ironically is Currie's boss (why academics and athletics are combined I do not know) and he had a say in hiring Currie, even though Blackburn was more qualified. Fulmer was never going to get it because Jimmy led the charge on getting Fulmer forced out. Jimmy isn't even on the board of trustees. His brother is the chairman of the board, being governor and Bill is a great guy which is why he focused more on being governor and letting his brother Jimmy, influence the board by bending the ear of his best friend who serves on the board. I am surprised that the university has not already been named Haslam University. Their foundation has done so many good things for UT but Jimmy is killing us. Plain and simple.

The comparisons are very similar between Bama then and Tennessee now. I know a lot of people like to turn up there nose at the thought of Chip Kelly but how is he not the closest thing to Saban on the market right now?
- Proven Winner
-Won at FCS
-Turned 2 programs that were dumpster fires for a long time (Oregon/LSU) into legit contenders
-Both went to the NFL and had issues with coaching professionals like they were still in college
-Both are arrogant at times and clash with the media

To me it's a no brainer.

How many coaches out there would qualify as a Saban-like hire? Not many. Didn't Saban win a national title at LSU before becoming the coach at Bama? I doubt we hire anybody who's won a national title--unless it is Miles, and I would not want him as I feel he was lucky and is now burnt out. I didn't realize that Saban is 5'6"--he's tiny! That's might explain a lot with him...
