This is TENNESSEE

I'm glad we have a coach that will embrace Tennessee. This is not USC east or a NFL training program. THIS IS TENNESSEE football I really want kids to come here and give their all for Tennessee get a good Education and become good citizens. I did support the last staff drinking the kool aid like everyone else but I think the past couple of weeks we really found out what we had here and I am glad its gone. If I knew everything that was going on in the locker rooms I wouldn't supported the last staff. Time to stand behind Dooley let him have the time to past or fail.

Are you Jason's brother? If so I met you at the restaurant on the river.

Your not Bama and never will be. We could quit playing football today and you could still not accomplish what we have. So dont think because a real tradtional powerhouse recovers that TN (second tier and a top 15-20 job) will do so as well.

Sir,

One thing I never do, and will never do, is go to opposing teams sites and talk smack. It seems a little odd that a fan of the best team in college football who just so happened to win a NC this year comes to an opposing site to talk it up. Where is the honor in that? In other words, everything you are saying now you wouldn't do if we were standing right in front of you. Most people feel more courageous than they actually are when sitting behind a computer screen. Enjoy your National Championship, your boys deserved it.

I couldn't agree more with the OP. This is TENNESSEE! We need to be who we are and be proud of it. I don't know that I have ever been more disgusted than when I had heard about the USC pics and vids hanging in or locker room and around our NC trophies.

The lesson here is that we may not win them all, but we do want our boys giving their all for Tennessee every day and come Saturday, we win or lose as Vols!

The team deserved it. Many of the fan base, including this clown, didn't.

Your not Bama and never will be.

That's a good thing.

Who really wants to be a Bammer? Seriously? A national championship every decade or so, for what? Hick jokes, ridicule, and the impression that your family tree is one big knot isn't worth it. No kidding, you hardly ever see someone born and bred in Alabama outside the state of Alabama, unless they're traveling. There's a reason for that. I'll let you guess why.

Oh, and in context, it's "you're" instead of "your":

"You're an unsavory lout from Alabama, and your wife looks suspiciously like your mother" versus "Take your tobacco chaw out of your mouth while your husband beats you, or you may swallow it by accident".

Do you see the difference?

You recovered because of Saban. I would not let my pride swell too much my friend. You have some very respectable Bama brothers on this board. I actually gained some admiration for the people of Alabama because of how they have behaved themselves on this board. Even with the crystal ball they acted with some class. Then you come on here and it reminds me that every team and state (and I'm definitely not excluding TN) has its share of jerks.

And you guys LOVED it when he was there. You were bragging to anyone that would listen that you were going to be the USC of the east. hahahahahahaha, you got what u deserved in my book.

No, Lane Kiffin bragged that Tennessee would be the "USC of the East." Tennessee fans wanted a team and program that was Tennessee, but which would be as good as USC. There's a big difference there.

Big talk coming from the school that gave the SEC Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Price and Mike Shula. But I don't think Alabama deserved that, nor did Tennessee deserve Kiffin's crap.

+1,000

You guys want respect once you are sinking down to the lows of the SEC. When we were down, you guys threw all kinds of bs in our faces. So you should have said that to your fanbase a few years ago while they were dancing on us.

so why do you feel the need to be on a ten. board?

Well then what does TN deserve for their history of cheating and violations. You have been on probation twice and before us, so I guess you could say that you have a better and longer history of cheating. hmmmm, interesting.

Hey bammer, why don't you go screw your wife/mother/sister again or fondle your statue of the guy that's going to leave you guys in a couple years for the next better thing.

Surge, you need to knock some sense into your bama buds head. I realize the fumes must be terrible in his double-wide from making meth all day.

lol...Winning one every decade is better than one every 40 years. I am not personally from Alabama, but I take all the snide somments from the other southern (pot meet kettle) states as a compliment and nothing more than pure jealousy. I know I know, but who would want to be bama with their history of cheating (thats what you would say right?). I guess being on probation twice compared to three times makes you a cheater in the mind of a vile fan.

Why is this clown here?

Listen here Billy, you are right, we are TENNESSEE.
We don't have to make up championships to feel better about ourselves. We are from a state that is known for more than just its football teams. We didn't have to copy Harvard to get an identity.

We are not trying to chase Notre Dame (you will never bee as popular or as famous as the Irish Billy)
A better past? A past of institutional racism is not something I would be proud of Billy.

Don't you have a job Billy?
Go to your own site and marvel about how you got the best coach in the country and won your 8th legit NC.

Oh I love it when vol fans are so ignorant to their own tradition and make fun of other schools for claiming NC's when they claim 4 more than they are recognized for. It really just shows how much you do know about your school. Most dont even know that you were on probation twice and think you are squeaky clean. HA

Just so you know there friend, we dont have to chase Notre Dame for ANYTHING. We have the same amount of consensus NC's and more bowl appearances and more bowl victories. We have more undefeated/untied seasons. And have won 2 NC's since their last one in the 80's. I dont think we have to chase them. Have a good day Terry

i'll be the first to admit that i thought this recruiting class was gone and ruined. BUT my hat goes off to CDD. He is pullin together a decent reruiting class and i think it will be a top 10 class come feb.

what have you accomplished? paying players and refs. real classy way to win.

hey, you've won as many championships on the field as we have.

hey, how much did you have to borrow against your trailer to go out watch the game? or did you just save your meth money.

Derek Dooley is an intelligent man and has legal training to build a case. When he is selling Tennessee what is he selling to these recruits? We know he is not selling his previous program and trying to make TN Alabama North as Kiffin did with USC East but it may be fun to remind ourselves what he has to sell.

TN will continue to have excellent coaches. Our athletic department is profitable even in years when we have to pay massive buyouts. We have a budget that enables us to target and get excellent people and to keep them highly compensated. People may say not to us, but it will not be about the money. We had 3 assistants on the previous staff making more than the FSU DC is making on his new contract.

Our facilities are top notch.

First you have Neyland Stadium
Neyland Stadium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is not the biggest stadium in the country, but it is one of the biggest and with the Vol Navy and many other unique features it is considered by all to be one of it not the best college football venues in the country.

Our practice facilities and training rooms are second to none. Locker rooms, film study areas, we continue to receive massive gifts whenever we want to upgrade them and they are high quality.

For students who wonder how they will be able to compete and keep up with their school work, UT has an incredible asset. The Thornton Center, is 33k square feet of space devoted to enabling student athletes to succeed academically.

In terms of tradition, Coach Dooley will learn the maxims of General Neyland, and he can sell a program that is in the top 10 all time in football wins.
Winningest College Football Programs - The 10 Winningest Programs in College Football History

In terms of opportunity? The cupboard is not bare by any means, but with players leaving under Kiffin, and arrests and dismissals, and poor recruiting in Fulmer's final years, there are lots of opportunities to see the field. Playing time will be available from early on for athletes who are better equipped to succeed on the field than their teammates who have been at UT longer.
The bench is deeper and it is harder to get on the field at UF and Alabama.

Playing in the Southeastern Conference means that
they will have tons of exposure. They will also have the undying love of the massive fan base if they help turn the program around. A national championship 2012 Tennessee football player will have incredible advantages even outside of football in this beautiful state. A kid who goes to Florida and wins 1 National Championship in 4 years will be considered a part of some underachievers.

Tennessee also offers the opportunity to make a lot of money in the NFL. The family of prominent Tennessee NFL alums is vast, and we are in the top 10 programs nationally in terms of NFL players and NFL success. Our QBs get tips from time to time from Peyton Manning, our linebackers can follow in the tradition of guys like Al Wilson, our DL can follow Haynesworth, the DE's Reggie White, Leonard Little, WR's Carl Pickens, Peerless Price, Donte Stallworth, Robert Meachem, TE's Jason Witten, RB's Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry and now Arian Foster and Montario Hardesty...

Tennessee football players do not compete against pro teams, they are the only game in town. They are loved and adored and supported from the moment they step foot on campus until well after they are gone as long as they do not have a Bill Buckner moment.

As we bemoan misses on coaches, on recruits, on lots of things, it is important to remember that we are Tennessee, and we will be one of the best places to play college football for the rest of time.

Great post, but I'm not buying this part. Two things: 1) I live in Gator country and I don't see any ill feeling towards the team because they "underachieved". Disappointment, yes. But, they are very grateful for the success that they have had, much like we Tennessee fans would be. 2) It doesn't turn out great for everyone. For example, Casey Clausen is one of the prominant names in our record book up there with Peyton and Heath in almost every category, but Vol fans never took to him like they did the others. Heck, he was one win away from the NC game in 2001! Maybe you should have said:

A national championship 2012 Tennessee football player will have incredible advantages even outside of football in this beautiful state along with a chance to ascend to the "beloved" status (see Peyton and Heath) among fans. A kid who goes to Florida and wins 1 National Championship in 4 years will not be remembered in the same respect or held in the same stature.

Whatin,

The Tim Tebow class did NOT underachieve, rather they attained a level of dominance that I think even this amazing #1 class of this year will not be able to maintain in the years to come. That is what I mean. That in 2012, a kid coming in this class who wins a NC at UT will be a hero, but in 2012 at Florida it has to be almost expected given the amazing success they have had lately.

When you ask TN fans to recount heroic players, they go to Jamal Lewis, Travis Stephens beating Florida, Peyton, Heath, Reggie Cobb. Not many say Clausen etc.

How could a Florida fan not compare any QB after Tebow and feel like they are disappointing? Players in this class were 8 years old last time TN was great.

Jealous? I'm quite happy with the record of my team in my lifetime, that I personally was able to enjoy. You know what I mean? I don't have to make up championships, based on some knothead's opinion in the editorial section of some long-dead newspaper.

I'm perfectly content with my team's record that I've been blessed to witness, and I'm also perfectly content to let you have your 1 championship ever decade or so, just to enjoy watching your emotional high plummet the next season, and moreso the next, and you revert back to your pride of winning 187,091 championships, and dig up "The Bear" again. That's almost as good to me as one of those "Billy Bob" Championships that you claim.

It says a whole bunch about a fan base, when they have to claim bargain-bin championships in order to pump themselves up. Why don't you just claim a championship for every game you've won, and skip even the most minor of pretenses?

Oh, and that cute cheer that you do, as a defeated opponent leaves the field... how redneck of you. A team plays their guts out, gets defeated, and the rednecks, led by their band, have to rub it in. "We just beat the hell out of you". That's some class. No other fan base comes close. It's "Tradition" they say. I guess, back in the day when Alabama was actually a powerhouse instead of a one hit wonder, their fans got so used to beating their opponents, that winning wasn't fun anymore, so they got their kicks from molesting their opponent's still-warm corpse. "We just beat the hell out of you". Note that no word in your "traditional" chant is bigger than four characters. Hmmm.. why is that?

I guess they don't know how to spell "honor" or "sportsmanship" in Alabama.

So take your claims that others are "jealous" of you, and run with them, because if you had any true idea of what a typical American sports fan thinks of the common Alabama fan, you'd curl up into a ball and start crying for your mother...

... or is that your sister? It gets so confusing sometimes.
