Derek Dooley is an intelligent man and has legal training to build a case. When he is selling Tennessee what is he selling to these recruits? We know he is not selling his previous program and trying to make TN Alabama North as Kiffin did with USC East but it may be fun to remind ourselves what he has to sell.
TN will continue to have excellent coaches. Our athletic department is profitable even in years when we have to pay massive buyouts. We have a budget that enables us to target and get excellent people and to keep them highly compensated. People may say not to us, but it will not be about the money. We had 3 assistants on the previous staff making more than the FSU DC is making on his new contract.
Our facilities are top notch.
First you have Neyland Stadium

It is not the biggest stadium in the country, but it is one of the biggest and with the Vol Navy and many other unique features it is considered by all to be one of it not the best college football venues in the country.
Our practice facilities and training rooms are second to none. Locker rooms, film study areas, we continue to receive massive gifts whenever we want to upgrade them and they are high quality.
For students who wonder how they will be able to compete and keep up with their school work, UT has an incredible asset. The Thornton Center, is 33k square feet of space devoted to enabling student athletes to succeed academically.

In terms of tradition, Coach Dooley will learn the maxims of General Neyland, and he can sell a program that is in the top 10 all time in football wins.

In terms of opportunity? The cupboard is not bare by any means, but with players leaving under Kiffin, and arrests and dismissals, and poor recruiting in Fulmer's final years, there are lots of opportunities to see the field. Playing time will be available from early on for athletes who are better equipped to succeed on the field than their teammates who have been at UT longer.
The bench is deeper and it is harder to get on the field at UF and Alabama.
Playing in the Southeastern Conference means that
they will have tons of exposure. They will also have the undying love of the massive fan base if they help turn the program around. A national championship 2012 Tennessee football player will have incredible advantages even outside of football in this beautiful state. A kid who goes to Florida and wins 1 National Championship in 4 years will be considered a part of some underachievers.
Tennessee also offers the opportunity to make a lot of money in the NFL. The family of prominent Tennessee NFL alums is vast, and we are in the top 10 programs nationally in terms of NFL players and NFL success. Our QBs get tips from time to time from Peyton Manning, our linebackers can follow in the tradition of guys like Al Wilson, our DL can follow Haynesworth, the DE's Reggie White, Leonard Little, WR's Carl Pickens, Peerless Price, Donte Stallworth, Robert Meachem, TE's Jason Witten, RB's Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry and now Arian Foster and Montario Hardesty...
Tennessee football players do not compete against pro teams, they are the only game in town. They are loved and adored and supported from the moment they step foot on campus until well after they are gone as long as they do not have a Bill Buckner moment.
As we bemoan misses on coaches, on recruits, on lots of things, it is important to remember that we are Tennessee, and we will be one of the best places to play college football for the rest of time.
